Recently President Obama, though an executive order, gutted one of the key welfare reforms of the 90′s era in allowing waivers for “workfare” requirements for welfare recipients. Work requirements tied to welfare benefits resulted in a dramatic drop in welfare dependency, but without the requirements we could expect dependency to increase once again.

According to a new Rasmussen poll, most Americans understand that with 65% of Americans saying the problem with welfare is too many people receiving benefits, and 83% supporting work requirements for welfare recipients.

Obama is already suffering from the image of being the “food stamps President.” That he’s opening up a program Americans see as catering to government dependency to more abuse isn’t likely to help his re-election chances.
