Politico: Heitkamp’s Fundraising Puts Her At A Disadvantage
10:29am
I’ve written before that I’m not sure how much Rick Berg’s fundraising advantage over Heidi Heitkamp is going to help down the stretch. It seems to me that North Dakotans are already tired of political ads. Are more ads from either candidate really going to help?
But for what it’s worth Politico yesterday gave Berg an edge because of his fundraising advantage:
Who Lost The Day: Heidi Heitkamp, for reporting about $900,000 less cash-on-hand than Rep. Rick Berg, handing him greater buying power for his closing message. Television stations charge outside groups higher rates, so pro-Heitkamp rebuttals will cost more.
I actually think the bigger advantage for Berg is the fact that he’s raised 42% more from North Dakotans than Heidi Heitkamp has. That speaks to a broader and more energetic base of support among the state’s voters than Heitkamp has.
