Politicizing The Draft

Kerry is trying to scare voters by claiming that Bush will re-instate the draft.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Sept. 22, 2004 -- Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, citing the war in Iraq and other trouble spots in the world, raised the possibility Wednesday that a military draft could be reinstated if voters re-elect President Bush.

Kerry said he would not bring back the draft and questioned how fairly it was administered in the past.

Bush is going to bring back the draft? Lets take a look at the people who are really trying to bring the draft back.

Looking first at Senate Bill 89, one can quickly and easily note that this bill was introduced on January 7, 2003 by Senator Fritz Hollings (D-South Carolina).

Now, looking at HR 163, one will note the names on the bill introduced the same day that Senator Hollings introduced SB 89: Representatives Charles Rangel (D-New York), Jim McDermott (D-Washington), John Conyers (D-Michigan), John Lewis (D-Georgia), Pete Stark (D-California) and Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii).

You'll note that every one of them is a Democrat. You'll also note that not one of them is a Bush-supporting Democrat. And yet, strangely, Kerry feels he can criticize Bush over the draft issue.

If Kerry wants to criticize some people over the draft he'd better start looking at his own party.
