Police Officer Who Engaged And Took Down Shooter Is Identified
In the highest tradition of police work, she ran toward the gunfire:
The hero cop who ended the bloody rampage at Fort Hood had been directing traffic moments before she confronted the gunman and pumped four bullets into him despite being shot herself.
Civilian police Sgt. Kimberly Munley and her partner responded within three minutes of reported gunfire Thursday afternoon, Lt. Gen. Bob Cone said Friday.
Munley, who had been trained in active-response tactics, rushed into the building and confronted the shooter as he was turning a corner, Cone said.
She didn’t bother with cover and concealment when she got there. She utilized the training that police everywhere got after the initial debacle of the response at Columbine. She engaged:
Munley was only a few feet from crazed Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan when she opened fire.
Wounded in the exchange of gunfire, Munley was reported in stable condition at a local hospital.
Hell of a job, Sarge.
A footnote:
I have to wonder how much praise this courageous officer will receive from the liberals on the left now that she’s shown the entire world that a woman can more than hold her own in the world of law enforcement. Just asking, but it seems like the folks at NOW should be gushing over this woman, doesn’t it? She certainly deserves all the praise they can lavish on her, and more.
And, they might. Sort of a litmus test, isn’t it? They hated Palin. What will happen this time?
We’ll see.
Another footnote:
Pam over at Atlas Shrugs points out that this is a sort of poetic justice and wonders how cringeworthy in the Muslim world, at least the radical Muslim world, this will be now that we know the Muslim shooter was taken down by a woman.
Maybe that’ll dampen the celebratory spirit that they’ll be feeling over this.
Oh, and there’s a great picture of her over there. Apparently explosives do indeed come in small packages.
Thanks to Proof for the tip.
