Pirates Shoot at Royal Marines: Die

Via Drudge:

Pirates caught redhanded by one of Her Majesty’s warships after trying to hijack a cargo ship off Somalia made the grave mistake of opening fire on two Royal Navy assault craft packed with commandos armed with machineguns and SA80 rifles.
In the ensuing gunfight, two Somali pirates in a Yemeni-registered fishing dhow were killed, and a third pirate, believed to be a Yemeni, suffered injuries and subsequently died. It was the first time the Royal Navy had been engaged in a fatal shoot-out on the high seas in living memory.
By the time the Royal Marines boarded the pirates’ vessel, the enemy had lost the will to fight and surrendered quietly. The Royal Navy described the boarding as “compliant”.

Aren’t you supposed to hang them now? Do they still have yard-arms?

The Royal Marines and forces from other nations off the coast should have taken action to stop these pirates long ago. Bravo. Kick some ass.

It was as it should be……….

An exercise in respect building diplomacy. I want my enemies to respect and fear me, rather than feign respect and seek to communicate with me…

Oh and WWI is still a living memory. Surely the Royal Navy boarded a few of the Kaiser’s war ships or were boarded.

    Most journalists are idiots.

Slow pirate boat, fast commando boats….tell me why the frigate’s commander didn’t tell his commandos to back off and let his ship’s artillery ruin the day for all of them? Maybe to collect evidence?

I’m kinda bummed that there were survivors.

Old Grunt, you got that shit right! And a claymore don’t care what direction they are facing.

“Aren’t you supposed to hang them now? Do they still have yard-arms?”

And the answers to these questions is “Yes”. Brigands/Bandits/Terrorists/Pirates, they are to be killed on the field they are taken on. Their actions are their trial.

Really? Falkland Islands? OK, Falkland Islands might not have included small arms fighting from ship to ship, but there are still WWII vets alive. Surely there was some ship to ship fighting then. But I guess the Brit pols and journalists would prefer to not remind their populace that it is a dangerous world where small arms are sometimes necessary.

    Greetings:

Reminds me of the parable I used to tell my new infantrymen:

Two riflemen are discussing their preferences for dispatching those who would opposed them. One is a “head-shooter:” the other prefers “center-mass” (torso). The head-shooter asserts that if you hit him, he’s done. “Center-mass” prefers the larger target area of the torso. As they’re going back and forth, their Platoon Sergeant comes by. Head-shooter asks, “Sarge, where do you like to shoot the bad guys?”

“In the back,” replies the sergeant.
