Photo Evidence: Michelle Obama Keeps Socialist Books In The White House Library

Share |

Update: According to the Washington Post it was First Lady Jackie Kennedy who oversaw the placing of the books in the White House library, and they’ve been there since 1963. Apparently no administration since has changed the contents of the library.
So the guide I was with didn’t give me the whole story. Either that, or we misunderstood one another.
The Chairman Mao Christmas ornament, the Obama adviser who idolizes Mao and the nationalizations of the banks, car companies and attempted nationalizations of student loans and health care are all, unfortunately, still very true.

I arrived in Washington DC today to cover CPAC and since I was in town, and since CPAC doesn’t really get rolling until tomorrow, I tagged along with some Scott Hennen Show listeners on an extensive tour of the White House as part of the Common Sense Travel Club. One of the stops on the tour (which was wonderful by the way) was the White House library.
Now, according out the person who guided our tour, the library is stock with books picked out by the First Lady, Michelle Obama. Being a bit of a bibliophile, I started to peruse some of the books on the shelves…and lookie, lookie what I found (click for a larger view):

image

By itself, this wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But in the context of Anita Dunn saying Chairman Mao is her favorite political philosopher? In the context of the Mao ornament on the White House Christmas tree?
In the context of Obama’s economic policies?
Well, I’ll let you make your own call.

See the movie on George. I wonder when you hypocrites will finally admit that race played a very important part in getting unqualified whites into every college in the country, including law school.

Wee Willie Milli Vanilli: If you ever have an original thought of your own to compare it to, get back to us!

BTW, Your drama queen moment has past its two year anniversary!

That is it.  I am done with this site.  I am dead certain 80% of your pool is fucking retarded Ron. (sic)
Seriously, dude…..that is just fucking complete lunacy.  Go back to school, you lack basic reading comprehension skills.  It explains a lot though.

Or is “done” yet another four letter English word that you are totally clueless as to the meaning?

  3. Abby on February 18th, 2010 at 5:32 am

Haha was this picture taken right before Secret Service tackled you for taking a photo in the White House?!? This is a big no-no unless authorized on a tour. Even when given private tours by White House employees you can only have your camera out when you are outside and in the EEOB, but definitely don’t even bring it out while in the White House. Crazy.

    Rob,

Please post a list of books, the reading of which constitutes thoughtcrime, so we can identify the perpetrators in our midst. Good luck with your new position at the Ministry of Truth.

Too Late! We are well past the point when any rational individual would accept the idea that Jack 1 is simply misinformed. “Just plain stupid” works just fine.

I was going to write a scathing rebuttal of everything that’s just wrong about this post and its wingnut apologists, but I am only 42 years old. I gotta pick my battles.

When you mention ’socialism’, I wonder if you’re referring to the many elements of U.S. society that have been run, for a long time, on socialist principles. For instance, most people go to public school. How do you imagine that is financed? Similarly, a great many cities have municipal bus services, run by the city administration and financed out of the public purse. Additionally, a great many people live in public housing. Then there’s the very obvious example of Medicare. All these, and many other, aspects of U.S. life operate according to socialist concepts.

By almost any definition (except, it seems, an American one), this country is more than partly socialist. Really, the only major element in society not wholly socialist is the health care system. If it’s so much a part of our lives, why do people act and speak as though socialism is some kind of fatal disease?

You are confusing socialism with communism. The differences between them are so many and so huge that it would be impossible to list them even in a moderate amount of space. However, let me briefly give a few:
In a communist system, government operates unchecked and is therefore synonymous with the state; in a socialist system, the government administers the state on behalf of the people as the instrument of their will.
In a communist system, both the laws and the legal process are controlled by the state; in a socialist system, law is independently enacted and enforced, to ensure the state remains in the hands of the people.
In a communist system, the economy is entirely controlled by the state, since the state is the sole property-owner, producer and employer; in a socialist system, private property and economic activity are encouraged to the maximum extent possible, in order to ensure the needs of the people are met efficiently and fairly.
In a communist society, the survival of the state is, by definition, held to be more important than that of the individual; in a socialist society, the individual is paramount, and the well-being of the state depends on the collective well-being of its members.

    To put it very simply:
In a communist system, to ensure the state survives, the state is the government, and the state controls the individual.
In a socialist system, the individual is the state, and the individual employs the government.

In other words, communism is a totalitarian system; socialism is a democratic system.

The two systems evolved separately from one another. In the main, the roots of socialism lie in religion, principally the Methodist and Presbyterian versions of reformed Christianity, and their traditional emphasis on fairness and a vision of the individual’s right to influence his/her own destiny. The fundamental ideal of socialism is the responsibility of all people to care for their neighbors.

Communism could not be more different from that.

  10. sayanything-203 on February 17th, 2010 at 2:55 pm

You bring up an interesting point. I already know how John Kerry didn’t get in to Harvard Law, and had to settle for BC instead, but I sure would like to know more about Obama’s application and acceptance, and in particular who referred him and on what basis.

Of course, the public knows nothing about any of Obama’s academic career… or his early years in NYC and Chicago.

  11. sayanything-2 on March 7th, 2010 at 10:52 pm

So, CoCo, you admit your “correction”, which you screeched was “the truth” is complete bullsh*t, and you admit you can not even use google to find out who actually operates the public portions of the White House. Good, admitting you are a mentally retarded monkey was the first step, admitting you lied is the second. Now, when mommy lets you play with the magic picture box again you can take the next and admit you are an enemy of America and all humans, just like your pal, e, here. She routinely, like you, screeches her hate for America, Christians, Jews, children, women, animals, men, you get the picture, she is like you.

  12. sayanything-2 on February 20th, 2010 at 10:08 am

My favorite part is how you are getting the sh*t kicked out of you in multiple threads, and you scuttle back to this one to wail&gnash your teeth, after it has been updated.

Oh, and whilst you are here, where is all your proof that Christians are using terrorism to force people to convert to Christianity, whiny lying c%nt? Or is the Inquisition all you got, c*nt?

  13. sayanything-4625 on February 17th, 2010 at 12:35 pm

    Rodney Graves is a liar.

Hell, if i could have gotten into Berkeley i would have. My LSAT was probably in the range, but much of my undergraduate experience was a drunken haze. My end GPA was respectable, but not good enough for Berkeley.

I went to OU because at the time I planned to live there and figured the state school is never bad. However life changes and I now live in Seattle. Go Sooners.

I am looking at LLM programs. I could probably get into Berkeley now.

  22. lioncourt on February 18th, 2010 at 1:30 pm

Rodney Graves is almost as stupid as you. I graduated from OU in 2001 and i live in Seattle.

  23. Walter on February 18th, 2010 at 12:52 am

How do we know this was not taken in his home library or other location?

  24. sayanything-2 on March 10th, 2010 at 10:30 pm

Lookee! The mental retard monkey is still bashing its head on the floor, screeching lies, and crying now. Can’t even read whitehouse.gov, much less anything factual

Tell us, where did Jackie get that time machine?

No, actually mine are about the only comments that are about the actual subject of the thread. Admittedly, since the original post has been long since disproved and laughed off the stage, this thread has become a Seinfeldian thread about nothing and you are its Costanza.

  32. SteveO on February 20th, 2010 at 9:35 am

Agreed. Ayers wrote Dreams of My Father, and the Audacity of Hope was a shameless copy of Mao’s Little Red Book.

  33. sayanything-5371 on February 18th, 2010 at 2:12 pm

    Socialist books are free

Of course they are free, imbecile. No one would ever pay for one except the rare socialist idiot. Another failure of socialism, even the books about it fail to sell.

Example, Gores books sell a few thousand copies which never get read. Mark Levin’s latest book has sold over a million copies. Sarah Palin’s book is well over a million sold.

  34. sayanything-2 on March 4th, 2010 at 10:05 pm

Yes, you are a monkey, a mentally retarded monkey which keeps bashing its head into the floor and screeching “I matter”, which only proves what a mentally retarded monkey you are. Guess that is why you are a Democrat.

And back to topic, how did Jackie put books in the WH library in 1963 that were not printed until 1973, 1978, 1984, and 1988? You are the one that screeched that correction, and it turns out to be bullsh*t. Why is that?

  35. sayanything-2 on March 8th, 2010 at 1:02 am

Keep bashing that melon head on the floor, CoCo, its fun to watch. And when mommy comes home ask her to show you how to use google.

What books can you confirm that Obama has read?

  39. sayanything-1321 on February 25th, 2010 at 2:42 am

If you have those titles in your home, doesn’t it mean that you are a closet socialist. Or are you just curious and familiarizing yourself with the philosophy?

  40. sayanything-2 on March 5th, 2010 at 10:48 am

HAHAHAHA! You are the one that spewed that forth, tell us how Jackie did that. Enlighten us, retarded monkey. Continue to prove you just can’t walk away after f**king up so egregiously. I’m loving this.

  41. sayanything-2 on March 4th, 2010 at 12:47 am

And you, CoCo, are mentally retarded, that is most likely why you vote Democrat and spew anti-American sh*t. Now, respond again. Show us how you just can’t stop bashing your head on the floor, retard.

  42. sayanything-2 on February 26th, 2010 at 11:08 pm

Good CoCo, bash your head on the floor again, good CoCo, screech “I matter!’ and then lick your ass.

  43. Earl on February 21st, 2010 at 6:57 am

Yeah. Wow. Three whole books that say “socialism” or “communism” out of 2700 or so, and historical works at that. Yep, that has to be a scandal. Even had these been selected by the current residents, they hardly indicate, even to the broadest stretch of imagination, an endorsement of the subject matter.

Stick to retail, son. With your sense of diligence, logic and research the “investigator” business is not going to be kind to you.

Um, if it was an allegorical reference, it was indeed a crime.

If you don’t understand what allegory is, maybe.

I also wrote “Good luck with your new position at the Ministry of Truth.” Does that mean I believe there is, in fact, a Ministry of Truth, and Rob will be working there?

    Stop embarrassing yourself.

I have a copy of Mein Kampf on my shelf (next to Winston Churchill, incidentally). Does that make me a Nazi? Boo!

I didn’t think it was possible for wingnuts to get any dumber, but you always seem to rise to the occasion.

  52. robert108 on February 19th, 2010 at 12:22 pm

“…more respectable than reading talking points from one’s hand…”

False! Reading a prepared script, written by someone else is far less respectable than speaking at length with only a few bullet points written on one’s hand. Like most lefties, you live in an alternate universe, where Karl Marx knew anything about real economics.

  58. mantis on February 18th, 2010 at 8:25 am

    But…I don’t think being a socialist is a crime.

Btw, it’s amusing that a self-professed bibliophile ignored the obvious literary reference in my comment, choosing to treat it literally. I was not claiming you believe being a socialist is a crime (and no, we don’t actually have a Ministry of Truth). Buy hey, it’s only Orwell. Not a well known author or anything.

Perhaps Michelle is a Star-Trekker. In that original setting Star-Trek is set in a socialist state after going through the third world war. If only Gene Roddenberry would be alive to comment on the current situation. Of course it would be a kinder-gentler socialism.
Now is not the time to have socialist ideology on view in “Our” White House.

    http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/history/q0185.shtml

accidents were commonplace even under peacetime conditions given the inherent risk to a pilot’s life during any flight aboard a high-performance military jet. ANG members of the period who we’ve been able to locate indicate that only highly qualified pilot candidates were accepted for Delta Dagger training because it was such a challenging aircraft to fly and left little room for mistakes. According to the Air Force Safety Center, the lifetime Class A accident rate for the F-102 was 13.69 mishaps per 100,000 flight hours, and the rate was especially high during the early years of the plane’s service.

This poor safety record may have been due in part to a deadly flaw in the aircraft’s design that caused an engine stall and loss of control under a certain combination of angle of attack and airspeed frequently encountered during takeoff. According to a former F-102 pilot we’ve interviewed, this problem caused the plane to roll inverted and resulted in several fatal crashes. Numerous accidents were also encountered during landing because of the plane’s steep angle of attack and high airspeed that reduced the pilot’s visibility and reaction time. These factors have traditionally been two of the primary disadvantages of delta wing aircraft and explain why the pure delta wing design was later abandoned. Today’s delta wing aircraft are typically equipped with leading edge extensions or canards and fly-by-wire control systems that improve safety and performance. Luckily, F-102 operators overcame these deficiencies thanks to good pilot training and control lockouts that prevented the plane from reaching extreme conditions, and the F-102 went on to become one of the safer fighters of its day.

Regardless, the F-102 was still far more dangerous to fly than today’s combat aircraft. Compared to the F-102’s lifetime accident rate of 13.69, today’s planes generally average around 4 mishaps per 100,000 hours. For example, compare the F-16 at 4.14, the F-15 at 2.47, the F-117 at 4.07, the S-3 at 2.6, and the F-18 at 4.9. Even the Marine Corps’ AV-8B, regarded as the most dangerous aircraft in US service today, has a lifetime accident rate of only 11.44 mishaps per 100,000 flight hours. The F-102 claimed the lives of many pilots, including a number stationed at Ellington during Bush’s tenure. Of the 875 F-102A production models that entered service, 259 were lost in accidents that killed 70 Air Force and ANG pilots.

The F-102 was a breeze to fly! I surprised you didn’t know that.

did so in combat, something that W never saw a day of

Bush asked about going to Nam and was told he wasn’t qualified yet.

While these accidents occurred during routine patrol and training flights, F-102 pilots endured further risk while serving under combat conditions in Vietnam. Some of these were Air National Guard pilots from the 147th FIG, where Bush was stationed. These ANG pilots served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 through a volunteer program called “Palace Alert.” Palace Alert was an Air Force program that sent qualified F-102 pilots from the ANG to bases in Europe or southeast Asia for three to six months of frontline service. This program was instituted because the Air Force lacked sufficient pilots of its own for duty in Vietnam but was unable to activate ANG units since Presidents Johnson and Nixon had decided not to do so for political reasons. Thanks to Palace Alert, the Air Force was able to transfer much-needed National Guard pilots to Vietnam on a voluntary basis while not actually calling up their squadrons.

Fred Bradley, a friend of Bush’s who was also serving in the Texas ANG, reported that he and Bush inquired about participating in Palace Alert. However, the two were told by their flight instructor, Maj. Maurice Udell, that they were not yet qualified since they were still in training and did not have the 500 hours of flight experience required. Furthermore, ANG veteran Col. William Campenni, who was a fellow pilot in the 111th FIS at the time, told the Washington Times that Palace Alert had stopped accepting new applicants before Bush would have been eligible.

He joined in May 27, 1968. His last official flight was on April 15th, 1972. He logged 600 hours of flight time and 336 hours of flight in the F-102. So he was on active duty for 2 years and almost 3 years in the Air Guard in active pilot status. Facts are easy to verify.
Give it a whirl next time.

But Mr. Bush, who is no longer President, released all his academic records. Obama has released nothing at all. And has in fact gone to extraordinary lengths to keep his records out of public view… including his two years at Columbia and the years intervening between Columbia and Harvard.

I suspect I know how he got in to Harvard Lw, and it wasn’t on the strength of his academic work at Columbia. Its the references I’m interested in.

Either that, or you didn’t care about fact-checking and instead seized the chance to offer the world false proof of a misguided belief you already hold dear. Even if those books hadn’t been sitting there since 1963, it’s simply facile to assert that that anyone who studies these movements in history must be a socialist.

Oh, and since you’re such a bibliophile, try figuring out what socialism really is. You might find out about that in some history books — but maybe you’re afraid to own one. Socialist books in the White House library? A blog provides photo evidence but only part of the story

    By Stephen Lowman

In this era of blog wildfires, one fast-moving flame can be quenched before it scorches the facts: First Lady Michelle Obama did not stock the White House library with socialist books.

The controversy erupted after a conservative radio host and blogger from North Dakota took the White House tour on Wednesday and spotted two suspicious volumes on the shelves.

Rob Port, 29, who hosts a political call-in show in his home state, was surprised to come across “The American Socialist Movement, 1897-1912″ and “The Socialist Party of America.”

He snapped a photo and posted it on sayanythingblog.com.

Under the headline: “Photo Evidence: Michelle Obama Keeps Socialist Books in the White House Library,” Port wrote that the White House tour guide said the library was stocked with books picked out by Michelle Obama. “Being a bit of a bibliophile,” he wrote on the blog, “I started to peruse some of the books on the shelves…and lookie, lookie what I found.”

Thus flame was ignited. The blog post quickly attracted over a hundred comments and was linked on many other sites.

“Surely this means that every time President Obama is in the midst of important policy deliberations, he goes into the library, dusts off The American Socialist Movement, 1897-1912, and uses it to help him figure out what the most socialist policy would be,” mocked New York’s Daily Intel blog.

Port, who was in Washington to cover the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), said in an interview it is “never fair to judge a book by its cover” and that you can’t conclude Obama is a socialist just by the books in his library. “But obviously there have been question about the Obama administration’s politics. You see a few socialist books sitting in the library and, well, that fits in the narrative.”

The only problem is the books Port photographed have been sitting in the library since 1963.

The library came into being during the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt. In 1961, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy asked Yale University librarian James T. Babb to oversee a committee that would select books for the library. In 1963, 1,780 were placed on the shelves.

“The White House library is a reference and recreational library for the use of the President, his family, and official staff,” wrote Babb in the forward to “The White House Library: A Short Title List,” a document from the White House Historical Association.

“It is intended to contain books which best represent the history and culture of the United States, works most essential for an understanding of our national experience. The collection has to be strictly limited because the attractive library on the ground floor of the White House has shelf space for only twenty-five hundred volumes. Authors, with few exceptions, are citizens of the United States; fiction and poetry by deceased writers only have been included.”

“The American Socialist Movement, 1897-1912″ by Ira Kinnis and “The Socialist Party of America” by David Shannon are included on that original list of books, along with books about the two national parties, communism and still others about socialism.

Babb told The New York Times in 1963 that there was “bound to be criticism” of the choices. “There will still be people telling us what should be in this library, but we’ll just have to be adamant,” he said.

It is impossible to know if the White House guide misspoke, or Port misheard.

“I guess if they have been in there since the 1960s then they have been there through several presidents,” Port said when asked about the discovery. “All I said was that our tour guide told us they were chosen by the First Lady. I thought the books were interesting in the larger context, but now I guess it is what it is.”

At the time, he was among the first generation dubbed neo-conservatives, which he defined as referring “to the growing caution and skepticism among a group of liberals about the effects of social programs” initiated during the Great Society years. About his anti-Communism, there was no doubt.

As for Kipnis, he was a traditional scholar o

Is that really the argument you are going to go with after insisting the president is a Socialist/Marxist/Kenyan who hides his birth certificate, got into college because he’s black (which discredits his success in said college), reads from a teleprompter (like every politician who’s given a speech since the invention of the teleprompter–more respectable than reading talking points from one’s hand, by the way), hates America, is responsible for our current economic woes (absolutely hilarious, by the way), yadda, yadda, yadda…and AFTER all of that, your comeback is “You don’t normally comment on this website”?? Really? That’s it?

Furthermore, now that it’s been proven that these books have been in the White House since the 60s (not that there would be a problem IF the Obamas put them there), this entire thread is so sad and tragically funny, it looks like performance art. Bravo. Way to crash and burn with that knee-jerk reaction.

Obunga keeps photos of himself posted in the White House. They get replaced every week or so.

And people think MIchelle Obama’s library choices are embarrassing?

“Marxism is the most extreme form of socialism. You really don’t know that?”

Try reading history. And perhaps a little political theory. You might just discover the reality: Marxism is nothing to do with socialism. They are two different things. They have different origins. And, get this: Socialist governments are elected by the people. Communist governments are NOT elected by the people (with the extraordinary exception of Chile, Sept. 1973). Socialist governments can be dismissed by the people (just watch the upcoming election in the UK if you don’t believe it) in free elections. Communist governments can only be overthrown by force, because free elections are most definitely not part of their ideological plan.

Extreme or not, communism is no form of socialism.

  162. sj on February 22nd, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Marxism is the most extreme form of socialism. You really don’t know that?

How do you know your hypothetical “desert nation” is “more comfortable” with theocratic rule if they have never tasted freedom and representative govt?
You sound like the Southern Dems who asserted that the slaves enjoyed the security of slavery, and didn’t really want to be free. Again, pure idiocy.

Again, the disturbing part is the books combined with the actions. Obama’s Marxism is ruining our economy and is producing social unrest and making us less safe in this age of totalitarian threats.

I have read extensively in Marxism and socialism, for the purposes of understanding the enemies of our freedom and economic choice. I don’t think the Obamas consider Mao, Marx, Che, Chavez and A’jad the enemy. They behave better toward them than they do toward real Americans like Republicans and conservatives.

…so whether he was an affirmative action applicant is irrelevant. In fact it proves that affirmative action works.

An inordinately witless remark… especially for you. In the first place, I’ve already dismissed questions of affirmative action admission. That aside, since we don’t know whether or not Obama was an affirmative action admittee, his success doesn’t prove anything other than the fact that he was successful, and it can’t possibly prove that affirmative action does or doesn’t work.

Other than that i find your conspiracy theories laughable.

Really? And exactly which conspiracy theory of mine are you referring to? Hmmm? Did I mention anything about a black Manchurian candidate, or any sort of socialist “great plan”???

Fascism is the control of the means of production by the State.
Socialism is the ownership of the means of production by the State.
Communism is the most extreme form of socialism, in which everything, including the people, are owned by the State.

“In a socialist system, the individual is the state, and the individual employs the government.”

This is one of Marx’s Big Lies. Socialism runs counter to both individual freedom and ownership of private property.

Nah! Just an opportunity to publicize what Michelle Obama believes to be important reading material.

Don’t you mean propagandize? Because that is all this is because that is all Rob is capable of. Just a cursory look at what books these are it is apparent that this part of the library is historical and dedicated to political movements in US history sorted chronologically. As you probably know, but Rob probably doesn’t, there was a populist movement in the 1890s, a socialist movement in the 1900s and 1910s culminating with the socialist candidate getting over 1,000,000 votes, and a communist movement in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Not all of these books are supportive of these movements, some of them are critical and some are just histories. I will bet that in the White House library there is a copy of the Federalist. Do you believe the President is a Federalist.

The sad part is that you probably don’t believe that there is anything wrong with having these books in the White House library or that there is anything inherently wrong with these books. You just hope it will be embarrassing to the President, when really it should be embarrassing to you.

This post is just typical of how superficial and lazy Rob’s typical analysis is. He could have pointed out what other books were on this shelf. He could have looked up what these books are about. But likes Pavlov’s dog he sees the words “socialist”, “progressive” or “communist” and starts salivating. He thinks he has this huge scoop when really it just shows how pathetic his analysis is.

Also to note that most of the books identifiable have publication dates ranging from the 1930s to the early 1960s.

Not only does that show you don’t know Rob at all (and have probably never been to this site before),

    Wrong.

it shows that you do indeed think that Rob considers thoughtcrimes to be real.

Does it? Let’s see what I wrote (I understand it may be too long ago for you to remember, and scrolling up is real hard):

But it wouldn’t surprise me at all if you did wish being a socialist were a crime, and I’d bet you would covet the job of enforcing such laws, were they to exist.

Hmm, “were they to exist.” I guess by noting such crimes do not exist, and saying Rob might wish they did, I was claiming that they do, or that he believes they do, right?

    Which is it?

    I’ll go with Option C: You’re a moron.

Bush is so smart he wanted to privatize social security. can you imagine if he’d of gotten his way an 8/10th of the elderly pensions had been on the stock market in 2009 when the greatest economic crash this world has ever seen struck from new york.

You are the one that screeched that correction, and it turns out to be bullsh*t. Or are you just here spewing bullsh*t, like you do at HufPo and DU and firedog?

Or will you stop being all “weeweed up” and admit that no First Lady puts them there? That, in fact, books in the WH Library are placed there by WH Staff in coordination with White House Museum guidelines? Hmmm, what do you say, CoCo? Gonna keep bashing your head on the floor?

I live in Michigan and just recently got an Enhanced Driver’s License, which functions like a passport, allowing me to cross the border into Canada. To get it, I had to show my social security card and my ‘long form’ birth certificate, which has both of my parents name AND the state where they were born AND their race/ethnicity, and this document is signed by the physician who delivered me. By this standard, Obama wouldn’t even qualify for an Enhanced Driver’s License, much less qualify to be POTUS. What’s he hiding???

Thanks for an enlightening and entertaining read! I was impressed to read that such a poorly thought-out blog post can receive such vociferous defence from so many nasty, angry people.

Incidentally, if you really believe that Barack Obama is a communist, you lack the most elemental understanding of political science.

  259. RealityCheck on February 18th, 2010 at 7:28 am

“A false conclusion and an idiotic statement! It’s the combination of the presence of these books and the Obamas’ Marxist beliefs and actions that are disturbing.”

First: Marx was communism. These books are on socialism and populism. But nevermind that for now.

Since these are history books, doesn’t that make it less disturbing? They would detail the flaws and failures of those systems, and give understanding as to what not to do. I would find it more disturbing if someone was implementing so-called “Marxist beliefs” without learning anything about the history of such implementations.

It would be like a president trying to install a democratic system in a culture and society where any historical study would cause him to immediately conclude that it’s not a good fit. Say, like a desert nation that’s generally more comfortable with theocratic rule.

“Based on his race”? Are you kidding? First, when his Harvard application was released during the campaign it turns out that he did not identify his race at all on the form. He wanted to get in on merit, of which he had an ample supply because he was a top honors student. Once at Harvard Law he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. Let me tell you something about the HLR. First, the invitation to join is made ONLY to the top students at the school. Second, being made the President of the HLR means he was selected by his peers to be the Editor in Chief. This is a much sought after, highly competitive position at one of the most competitive law schools on the planet. As soon as he joined the HLR he was guaranteed job offers. Being selected the chief editor means that every major firm in the country would have been happy to have him as an associate on a fast partner track upon his graduation. He graduated at the top of his class, and no, he was not simply placed there by virtue of his race. Law school exams are done anonymously, with only numbers kept secure by the Registrar to identify the students. In other words, his professors did not know which papers and exams were his. He achieved his heights based on merit.

His former professor, Lawrence Tribe, described Obama as the most impressive student and best researcher he’d seen in 40 years of teaching law school.

The evidence for Dubya’s illiteracy? Well, I wouldn’t call him illiterate, but I would call him based on my observations the most intellectually incurious person I’ve ever seen in a position of power in this country. He might have some native intelligence, but he’s never chosen to really use or develop it. He was notorious for not being that interested in books. He was utterly academically undistinguished, having never graduated with honors from anything in his life. He was at Yale as a legacy, and not due to his qualifications. He was throughout his academic career nothing better than a C or low B student, and this was at a time when grade inflation was taking hold in the Ivy League as a way to keep students from flunking out and getting drafted. Intellectually and educationally he doesn’t hold a patch to Obama.

As for Michelle Obama’s reading selections, I’ve never seen a more stupid conclusion than the one made here, that reading certain books means one must believe in the political systems they address. That’s just ignorant.

Public libraries, school libraries, history students, historians, history buffs, political theorists, political strategists, sociologists: This country is rife with filthy socialists.

Someone should start an organization. Perhaps call it the National Anti-Socialism Institute, or NASI (perhaps change the “s” to a “z” to give it a little edge?), and go around removing this unconscionable literature from our country in the interest of protecting and promoting our pure culture.

Democracy & the organization of political parties Ostrogorski 1902
U.S. Senators and their World Mathews 1960
    The Populist Moment Goodwyn 1978
The Socialist Party of America Shannon 1955

The Social Basis of American Communism Glazer 1961
The Invention of the American Political Parties Nichols 1967

  280. robert108 on February 22nd, 2010 at 12:18 pm

You may quote as many theories as you like, but the reality is that communism is the most extreme form of socialism.
Most socialist countries, in order to have some economic viability(communism produces poverty and stagnation), have some amounts of individual and economic freedom, but that doesn’t make them representative republics.
By your theories, communist China isn’t communist, since it has some degree of personal and economic freedom for a select portion of the population.
Socialism is still State control of the means of production, although you have the Fabian socialism where only the major means of production are owned by the govt, and some private businesses exist.
The key difference is that it’s the State which makes the final decisions, whereas in the US, individuals make the final decisions. You are partially right in that we do have to “creeping socialism” through the central govt’s spending our money on vote-buying wasteful social spending programs.
We can vote out the politicians who support that, and return to Constitutional rule.
That is not possible in a socialist country.

So, your comment about him being nearly illiterate only proves that you are either completely uninformed or just plain stupid. (Hint: If I were you, I’d claim to be uninformed.)

  284. robert108 on February 17th, 2010 at 1:46 pm

It’s not that she has socialist/communist literature, it’s that combined with her and her husband’s belief system and their running our economy into the ground that is important.
His restatement of Marx’s dictum, which was “when you spread the wealth around, it’s better for everybody” is what tells the tale. Marx believed redistribution of income was the way to ensure “fairness”. And so do the Obamas.

  297. dwbh on February 18th, 2010 at 3:01 am

So let me get this straight: the fact that the Obamas have books on socialism in their library isn’t significant in itself – it’s significant because EVERYONE KNOWS Obama is a dirty socialist, redistribution of wealth, guilt by association, etc. In other words, if you remove the hyperbolic partisan assumptions people are trying to layer onto the administration, it means absolutely nothing at all. Right?

Sorry Jimmy. It isn’t that cut and dried. There is too much stink where this issue originates, and Obama hasn’t helped it at all by concealing so much about his past, indeed, his legal team is surpassing the $2 million dollar mark in fighting to keep this stuff under wraps.

These are not the actions of someone with nothing to hide.

The everyday common citizen has to show something like a passport or a birth certificate simply to get a drivers’ license these days, but he can’t be asked to produce one to be the Commander in Chief of the United States?

Certainly that is very unusual as almost all people have to present proof of their grades and degrees at their first employments out of school. One can’t help wonder what he is trying to hide. Perhaps that is why he has never had a job in the private sector. I tend to believe like the brilliant line from one the Hitler paradies that ‘Obama flunked lunch’.

Why don’t you answer my more relevant question, to wit– which books on the shelves do you contend are “socialist” and “printed in 1973, 1978, 1983, and 1988″? We can’t move ahead with your intellectual evolution until you do.

Rob doesn’t necessarily use his brain to think, but rather parrot what others who are smarter than him are saying.

When he does try to think for himself, if you can call it that, he usually fails miserably in an attempt to use basic logic or deductive logic.

    “Him not to smart”!!

Trolls, Part IV – Infiltration and Disruption

Believe it or not, the Lefties actually THINK about doing stuff like this and then do it.

Frankly, this sort of idiocy is unthinkable for Americans, who are not afraid of competing ideas.

Leftists on the other hand, react with fear and foaming rage at contradiction.

    Hence trollage.

” his legal team is surpassing the $2 million dollar mark in fighting to keep this stuff under wraps.”

December 2008, the eligibility controversy in a nutshell:
    http://www.bloggernews.net/118851

In March-April of 2009, the estimate was in the vicinity of $1 million US taxpayer dollars.
    http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.2705/pub_detail.asp

Logic tells anyone looking at this objectively that it is nonsensical for President Obama to retain three law firms and to expend heavy costs of legal fees to hide records (some estimates are upwards of $1 million), unless there is something worth hiding from the American people.

    Billing shown here:
    http://www.therightsideoflife.com/2009/04/23/wnd-obama-campaign-paid-1-million-to-fight-eligbility-lawsuits/
    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=93578

Another figure suggests that costs of defending the eligibility suits may exceed $9 million, outside of legal fees http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=95772

The FEC report also reveals Obama For America has spent nearly $9.5 million in the first three months of this year – of which $6,365 in legal fees paid by Obama For America also went to Oldaker, Biden & Belair, a firm founded by Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

And that left-leaning judges are using threats of sanctions to discourage the suits, rather than allowing them to be tried on their merits
    http://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/CS/forums/t/28515.aspx

By October 2009, the figure was reaching $1.7 million
Obama Law Tab Up to $1.7 Million to Prevent the World From Seeing Birth Records or ‘Real’ Documemts of Any Kind.
    http://www.knowthelies.com/?q=node/4773

Here it is, four or five months hence and the nature of legal billing is that it does not go down, and certainly while suits are still active. They keep growing.
    http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=99437

It is logical to conclude at the rate those legal fees have been running, the Obama camp is at, near or beyond the $2 million dollar mark.

All this begs the question WHY?

Other presidents release all sorts of background history during their candidacy — WHY is Obama, a year after being sworn in, fighting so hard to conceal the very proof of his eligibility to serve in the office of the Presidency?

    You tell me.

    robert108 in reply to Kenny

He didn’t insinuate it, he said it straight out, a number of times. It’s usually in one of his anti-Israel, anti-Christian, pro-Palestinian rants.
He has equated Christianity with terrorism numerous times.
His most recent one was to name the Dominicans as Christian terrorists.

Why do you find it necessary to lie?
I never said Dominicans. I said Dominionists.

Here what others say about Dominionism and Dominion theology:

Dominion theology is a Utopian ideal.
It is a belief that this world can, and must, be conquered for Christ by militant action undertaken by the Christian Church. To get a good sense of what is happening in the established Church today see the article Dominionism and the rise of Christian Imperialism by Sarah Leslie.
Dominion Theology incorporates a Crusader mindset. It teaches that it is our Christian duty to take over the world, in a political sense, and if necessary, in a military sense, in order to impose Biblical rule. Christ will not return, (they say), until the church has “risen up” and “taken dominion” over all of the world’s governments and institutions. Dominionists affirm that this is not a matter for us to discuss. As they see it, this is a mandate from God.

    Dominion Theology

First is the Christian Reconstruction movement, led by such men as Gary North and R.J. Rushdoony. Almost unknown 30 years ago, Reconstructionsim is now influencing the evangelical Church. Its leadership is aggressive, with a Postmillennialist call for Christians to take over the world before Christ can return. Postmillennialism teaches the kingdom of God is now being extended in the world by preaching the Gospel, so that the world will be Christianized during this nonliteral Millennium. Its goal is for a worldwide conquest by Christianity to take over the world for Christ. In their view, this is to be done by the Church, while Christ the King is absent from the earth, something which the Bible simply does not teach. Associated with a small number of think tanks and book publishers, Reconstructionists advocates call for the imposition of an Old Testament style theocracy, complete with capital punishment for serious offenses like adultery, homosexuality, and blasphemy.

    Dominionism

Dominion Theology is a grouping of theological systems with the common belief that society should be governed exclusively by the law of God as codified in the Bible, to the exclusion of secular law. The two main streams of Dominion Theology are Christian Reconstructionism and Kingdom now theology. Though these two differ greatly in their general theological orientation (the first is strongly Reformed and Neo-Calvinistic, the second is Charismatic), they share a postmillenial vision in which the kingdom of God will be established on Earth through political and (in some cases) even military means.

    Dominioninsts/Dominion theology

Of course, Leftists come out of the woodwork to pooh-pooh the logical connection between the Marxist works on their shelves and the Marxist actions of those who — for now — own those shelves. Ye shall know them by their fruits, and it is abundantly clear that Obama is a hard Leftist, has married a Leftist, was nurtured by Leftists and surrounds himself with Leftists.

This is not the library of the S-2 (intelligence section) wherein those who study the enemy, study the works of the enemy to better know them, so that they might better defeat them.

As for W being illiterate — he flew an F-102. With the possible exception of F-84s and F-104’s, it was a tough airplane to fly and you were either quick or you were dead. Mistakes get compounded very quickly at Mach 1 and W did quite well.

But Leftards always lie about those they fear the most. What Conservative have they NOT attacked as stupid or evil?

    Greg,

Let’s also let the readership know about one of the particularities of the F-102 that made it such a dangerous aircraft to fly.

During take-off, it had a nose-high attitude, which cut off a great deal of forward view. Many aircraft have had this problem (the Spirit of St. Louis for one, and the F4u Corsair for another) but this wasn’t the worst of it.

The steep angle of attack, that is the angular difference between the flow of air across the wings and the wings themselves, made low-speed handling very dangerous, especially at take-off (when there is no room to recover) The aircraft would stall and invert, or roll on its back. When the bird does that, you’ve got no place to go because if you eject, it’ll auger you into the Earth below. Of course, you’re going to die anyhow, since you’ve in the midst of several tons of aircraft aluminium and steel and highly-volatile JP4 jet fuel.

While most would agree that it was underpowered, a lot of pilots still liked the aircraft and felt it was a good airplane in its day. It would be redesigned to such an extent that they didn’t call it a modification but a completely new aircraft, the F-106 Delta Dart.

    http://vietnam.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/f102deltadagger.html
    http://www.aviastar.org/air/usa/convair_dagger.php
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JP-4

The F-102 killed a lot of pilots.

    Now tell me.

If you were a stupid person, could you keep surviving take-offs like this, again and again, day and night, rain or shine?

    HINT: No.

  378. sayanything-56761 on March 8th, 2010 at 12:40 am

  380. sayanything-316 on February 18th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

    Lie-in-Court,

There is so much about how and what you write that conflicts with your cover story that it just doesn’t ring true. For instance, many of the things you write and say about the military sound completely made up. Additionally, I have trained with every branch of the service and conducted joint operations with several foreign military organizations.

In NO American military outfit did I get your kind of anti-US military, pro-homosexual, pro-Communist vibe. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Heck, I even touched base with Coasties.

Non of them espoused the filth you spew out.

There was ONE former drill instructor who hated the Marines with a passion, Seems he had been ridden out on a rail for one reason or another.

There was ONE foreign military type who espoused your Leftard BS, and that was in Norway, where service was obligatory. He started spouting his Leftard swill and because we had formed friendships with the rest of his outfit, they quickly set about the task of kicking his Marxist butt.

You wanted some information, and just tried to nag me for it. It seemed completely beyond your capability to conduct an internet search. Intelligence officer? I think not.

If you served, my guess is that you were what in the service is known as a shitbird.

    That much is plausible.

When folks serve and they do well, they sound pretty much like the likes of 2H9, Greg, Chief, Will, Nieman and a couple others. They served and there is indicia that they served within their posts.

I don’t see that indicia in your postings.

I see Leftist. I see homosexual or perhaps a bisexual. I see someone who toes the Leftist party line insofar the US military and its deployment is concerned.

Bottom line is, I think you are a liar.

That’s why I would believe Rodney over anything you had to say.

Rodney can be boorish and rude, but I do see intelligence in him, something that I don’t see in you. If you are, in fact, a member of the Bar, God help your clients is all I can say.

  385. funnyhaha71 on February 20th, 2010 at 8:45 pm

Ron, I would like to add two points of clairification.

    1) Reread the WP article. It says “The library came into being during the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt. In 1961, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy asked Yale University librarian James T. Babb to oversee a committee that would select books for the library. In 1963, 1,780 were placed on the shelves.”

A committee selected the books, not the first lady. It was Babb who oversaw the committee, not Kennedy. It might help to clarify your first paragraph more.

    2) The book you mentioned as being published in 1978. You must be under the impression that books are never added or subtracted over the years. Seriously, you think that the WH left an entire book selection from 1963 without changing it at times?

    But Lie-in-Court is well-named.

He knows nothing of Obama’s qualifications because only a very small, select few know the truth about Obama’s qualifications.

Some of the lawsuits question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama’s American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Other challenges have focused on Obama’s citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

Complicating the situation is Obama’s decision to spend sums estimated over $1 million to avoid releasing an original long-form state birth certificate that would put to rest the questions.

WND also has reported that among the documentation not yet available for Obama includes his kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and his adoption records.

I’m not sure how much of a fool I made of myself. The explanation, that the books were put there in 1963, seems strange given that at least one of the books in the picture wasn’t published until 1978.

Still doesn’t mean that the Obama’s put them there, but whatever.

The guy in charge of picking the books for the library for Jackie Kennedy said they’d “cause a stir.” I guess it just took a while.

And by the way, Hannitized, I corrected my post when it turned out I was wrong. Which is more than I can say for you.

    Rob,

Have you considered the possibility that the tour guide (now probably TOAST) was right, that you quoted her correctly, but the subsequent explanation is spin / damage control?

I can see how you would deem it prudent to make a correction, using the official WH explanation, but considering the track record of the WH occupants in the field of truth versus lies (CSPAN, etc… ) my guess is that the tour guide was correct when she first spoke.

  397. gkantor on February 20th, 2010 at 5:20 am

An allegory is the conveyance of a meaning through non-literally story telling, usually to convey a moral. Such as Aesop’s fables. That doesn’t apply to you.

You simply made a reference to a decent book as an insult.

  400. sayanything-7406 on February 22nd, 2010 at 11:03 am

Interesting subject here. However, I personally feel there’s nothing wrong with having certain books in one’s library. When I was 12 I lived on Minot AFB, at the base library was the collected works of Karl Marx. That doesn’t mean that the people at Minot AFB were a bunch of commies. I myself own a few of Marx’s books, I also own Hitler’s and Mussolini’s works. On the other side of the spectrum I own Clinton’s and Obama’s books. Not because I believe in what they write but because I want to know exactly what it is they believe. You can’t attack ideas unless you are ware of what those ideas are.

If people want to accuse Obama of having socialist ideals go ahead. Their’s ample evidence. You don’t need to rely on what appears in his library.

    Okay Leftard trolls,

    Your scoffing at:

… there being a (scoff) Socialist (rolls eyes) plot by a (air quotes) Left-leaning administration (snort) is preposterous. Really, you Right-wing whacko-paranoids have your tin-foil hats on too tight. …

    is duly noted.

How come I am reminded of the Italian husband, caught in flagrante delicto — naked, in bed, on the down-stroke, with a similarly naked female, by his wife — who jumps out and blusters:

    Who-ah you gonna believe-ah. ME, or you-ah lyin-ah eyes?!

Thank you for insulting our intelligence.

We’ve looked at Obama’s part, be it his deep involvement with ACORN, Ayers, Dohrn, what he has said and what he has done and how he has voted, and particularly what he has been doing and saying over the last year.

The man is a Communist. He hates America. He hates White folks (see e.g. Rev. Wright) and his every action has been to weaken America while kow-towing to our enemies and 3rd-rate nations.

The books and ornaments aren’t so much our primary proof.

We’ve got tons of that already.

    They’re just further confirmation.

Now exfiltrate back to HuffPo and DailyKos from whence ye came.

    Shoo.

  411. sayanything-3444 on February 18th, 2010 at 7:56 am

I think the worry on that side is that the carefully crafted facade of Obama is falling away at an alarming rate (alarming to them anyway). While conservatives knew all along what the Obamessiah was all about, those that voted their feelings rather than reason have begun to have the scales removed from their eyes. This is certainly not in and of itself damning evidence, but coupled with the many other things that have come to light and the continuing tone-deafness of the administration it is leading to Obama’s mask being stripped away completely. Once that happens, it will not be happy times for Democrats.

  412. funnyhaha71 on February 20th, 2010 at 9:09 pm

For a little perspective. The WH had school children throughout the US make Christmas tree ornaments for the WH Christmas trees. The First Lady did not decorate the trees, nor did she select the ornaments. Should the Mao ornament be on the tree? No. But to imply that there is a socialist plot to worship Mao in the WH is beyond comprehension.

This kind of stuff is petty. Seriously. Are conservatives so desperate that they have to resort to this kind of pettiness to feel good about themselves? Sure seems like it.

Concern yourselves with relevant matters. It isn’t as if there are not enough serious and meaningful issues for all of us to discuss, regardless what side of the isle we sit on.

  413. sayanything-316 on February 18th, 2010 at 5:09 pm

    LOR,

We’ve been getting a lot of visits by Leftist trolls, so if your intentions are at least neutral, forgive me if I have short patience with what has been a fraudulent bit of Leftard deception propaganda for some time. No doubt, to see if they can short-circuit the clear advantage of having served the country honorably in wartime when Clinton so very clearly cut and ran, and where Kerry lied about so much about his service and most heinously, about the supposed war crimes of US servicemen.

But to humor you, here’s the dope:

In the fall of 1972, when 1st Lt. Bush reported to the 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group of the Alabama ANG, he was to serve in a non-flying capacity since he was not trained or certified to fly the unit’s Korean-war vintage F-84 “Thunderjets” or their newly attained F-4 “Phantoms.”

Commanding the 187th was Brig. Gen. (Ret.) William Turnipseed. Regarding Bush’s role with the group, Turnipseed told National Review writer Byron York, “He (Bush) was not going to fly. We didn’t have enough airplanes or sorties to handle our own pilots, so we wouldn’t have done it for some guy passing through.”

In conclusion, during the May 1972- May 1973 year, Bush met his service obligations in Alabama. As a Guardsman on inactive duty, Bush would earn a point (day of credit) for every training period, up to a limit of 60 per year. He would also earn a point for every day of active duty performed, which would include runway alert tours, annual training, exercises, and deployments. Lost in this debate about “minimum” points is the fact that most Guard aviators put in many days above the 60 point maximum for which they were not given credit, so Bush’s records actually understate his performance. During the May 1972- May 1973 year, Bush earned 56 points when only 50 were required.

    1. Don’t create them all at once. 30 people popping up out of nowhere to disagree is suspicious.
    2. Be current. It’s unlikely they’d all find this older thread passing through,
    3. Talk differently. If calling people gay is your schtict, it gives you away when all of the other “new people” do it too.

In short, if you’re going to take the time to spam us with your one thought in your head over and over and over again, at least be less obvious about it.
