Petty Schmucks At The University Of Florida Stick It To Jeb Bush

They’re getting back at him for daring to open more colleges and end race-based admissions policies.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - University of Florida President Bernie Machen said Friday he was “tremendously disappointed” with the school’s Faculty Senate vote to deny former Gov. Jeb Bush an honorary degree.

The Senate voted 38-28 Thursday against giving the honorary degree to Bush, who left office in January.

“Jeb Bush has been a great friend of the University of Florida,” said Machen, adding that the Senate’s action is “unheard of.”

Some faculty expressed concern about Bush’s record in higher education.

“I really don’t feel this is a person who has been a supporter of UF,” Kathleen Price, associate dean of library and technology at the school’s Levin College of Law, told The Gainesville Sun after the vote.

Bush’s approval of three new medical schools during his tenure has diluted resources, Price told the newspaper.

Bush has also been criticized for his “One Florida” proposal, an initiative that ended race-based admissions programs at state universities.

Meh.  Honorary degree.  Big deal.  I’m sure Jeb isn’t sweating it, but how petty can these folks at the University of Florida get?  Does anyone really believe that the University of Florida, one of the most prominent and well-known schools in the country, is actually being hurt by the three new medical schools Jeb opened up?  And as far as race-based admissions policies go, Jeb should be commended for ending that reverse-racism nonsense.

Admissions into colleges should be based on nothing other than merit.  Taking the color of an applicant’s skin into consideration is racist and unfair, even if you’re doing so with the good intention of “helping” a non-white student.

What a bunch of petty creeps! They should be grateful to Jeb. How sad.

Jeb Bush is such a good guy. I wouldn’t blame him if he never wanted to run for any type of office ever again. BUT Jeb would have my vote.

The liberal elite academia’s blatant discrimination against conservative dough-brained jerkoff know-nothings.

Nice partisan prejudice!

Dont you ignorant people realize it is a political stand against a corrupt figure head of our already much too corrupt government?  I applaud the University of Florida and hope that every other University in the country would know well enough to do the same thing if it were in their hands.  His policies on education are about as right on as “No Child Left Behind”, the single greatest educational mistake from the single greatest Presidential mistake.

Typical leftie fascism.

Rob-
As a state-employed educator, i’m glad that you’re making your voice heard on this matter.  Surely the pay cuts you’ve received during jeb’s tenure have made your resolve of support stronger, and are warranting of his getting a free degree.

This is right-wing bullpiles- and that’s coming from an old-school right winger.  I know too many teachers in FLA who’ve been screwed over by this jackass who calls himself a republican.

That’s the problem with bloggers- morons who have no idea what they’re talking about can seem intelligent to other idiots.

I thought lefties judged social programs by their intentions, not their results; I guess that’s just for leftie social programs.
BTW, as far as social programs are concerned, the worst is probably “The War on Poverty”; 7 trillion and counting stolen from the private sector, with no discernible results in reducing poverty.

David and Sam,

Thank you both for stopping by and commenting on this thread.

Both of you have left quite an impression with your petty personal insults, but neither of you managed to offer any sort of cogent, reasonable argument for your position based on any documented facts.

Unwittingly… how appropriate an adverb… you both demonstrate that those on the Left are congenitally incapable of reasoned argument and discussion, but instead have only insults and invective to offer.

As noted above, it’s unlikely that Jeb Bush, an extremely popular governor given his poll and reelection numbers, will lose any sleep over the UF faculty Senate’s actions, knowing as he does that like the awarding of the Nebel Peace Prize to Jimmy Carter or Yassir Arafat, the Senate’s action only serves to diminish the value of the honorary Doctoral degree.

After all… the University of Florida???  Hardly a rigorous stanchion of intellectual achievement by any rational measure.

Bat: As we both know, Jeb’s real “crime” is Being A Republican.

R108,

I thought it was more a fraternal issue.

In either case, it does point up the intellectually shallow and overtly petty perspective of the opposition.  Surprise, surprise!

Projecting what?

The only reason Jeb didn’t get that honorary degree is because he’s a Republican.  That’s petty and schmuckish.

i disagree with your use of the “reverse racism” expression.  Talking about “anti-white racism woud be more appropriate
