Petitions For Tax Cut Measure Presented To Secretary Of State
Americans for Prosperity presented their petitions to North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger to put a measure on the ballot that would cut personal income taxes by 50% and business income taxes by 15%.
The total number of signatures? 15,567 according to the AFP people, which means the Secretary of State could throw as many as 1 out of every 5 signatures out and the petition would still make it. So pretty much the measure will be on the ballot.
So not only is the petition on the ballot, its on with a level of support from the public (as indicated by the signatures) that’s very strong.
North Dakota needs this tax cut. No, it’s not a property tax cut, and most North Dakotans are concerned about property taxes, but it is tax relief at a time when the state is running massive budget surpluses and is at a critical moment of economic growth.
Will the state’s economy keep growing? Or will the economy begin to stagnate because we’ve kept taxes higher than they need to be?
The question now lays with the voeters.
