Perkins: The Southern Poverty Law Center Has Created An Environment That Led To Family Research Council Shooting

The Southern Poverty Law Center is an organization that has become infamous for labeling any group with a socially or even fiscally conservative agenda as a hate group, up to and including the Family Research Council which was the target of a shooting yesterday.

Today on Fox News Tony Perkins, the head of the FRC, stopped short of accusing the SPLC of causing the crime, but blamed them for creating an environment which led to the shooting. “I’m not saying that the Southern Poverty Law Center is responsible for the shooting. Floyd Corkins is responsible for the shooting,” Perkins told Meghan Kelly. “They are responsible for creating an environment that led to yesterday’s shooting.”

This sounds like a bit of a stretch to me. In fact, it sounds exactly like the same sort of innuendo the left tried to use to tie Sarah Palin to the Tucscon shooting. The folks at the Southern Poverty Law Center are the worst of the worst when it comes to playing the race/bigotry card to silence/stifle/intimidate debate. They are not a group to be taken seriously.

But Perkins is applying a standard so broad that the actions of just about any loon who gloms on to a few tid-bits of an ideology as a way to rationalize his/her violence or crimes could be pinned on that ideology as a whole. The anti-abortion folks often refer to abortion as murder – and I happen to agree with that position – but if some lunatic uses that as justification to bomb an abortion clinic, is that an indictment of the pro-life movement?

Of course not.
