Pelosi Will Finally Be Allowing A Vote On Domestic Drilling Plans

Share |

Pelosi will allow a vote on a Democrat energy plan, but that vote will be contingent on a vote on a Republican energy plan.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Monday morning that the newest Democratic energy bill will be brought to the floor under normal rules and will be subject to a vote on a Republican alternative that is likely to call for even more drilling than Democrats are prepared to swallow.
Hoyer, holding his weekly session with reporters, would not discuss details of the new Democratic energy bill — which was first outlined by caucus Vice Chairman John Larson (D-Conn.) over the weekend. But Hoyer did outline the process for bringing the bill to the floor, and said it will be brought up under regular order.
“[Republicans] will have the opportunity to offer their alternative, yes,” Hoyer said in response to a question about how the energy bill will be introduced. “We understand that their motion to recommit will be their Republican alternative.”
The move is a dramatic departure from Democrats’ pre-August recess strategy, in which they brought up each of their energy bills under suspension of the rules and, in doing so, avoided having any votes on Republican measures calling for offshore drilling. But by embracing this strategy, Democrats also failed to get the two-thirds majority necessary to pass the majority of their energy bills.

Pelosi and the Democrats have handled this issue badly. Pelosi tried to ram-rod through the Democrat energy plan by suspending House Rules (something Pelosi had promised she wouldn’t do) and when Republicans managed to block that maneuver she put the House into recess before a vote on the Republican plan was held. But Republicans didn’t leave the House, the public took notice of what was happening, and now the Democrats may well lose ground in the House this election because of the energy issue.
Will they lose enough ground to let Republicans re-take control of the chamber? Time will tell.

Drilling, pumping, and refining. These will alleviate our current fuel price problem. McC has consistently opposed using American resources, and has, in fact, bought into the “glowball warmening” horseshit. So Toiletmug has a point. Totally unrelated to the actual subject, but a point nonetheless.

I think there are a lot of people in the United States that would approve of some daring drilling techniques on Pelosi.

After all, she is from San Francisco. Brings a new meaning to a “San Francisco treat.”

If we don’t move now to enact an energy policy that includes more oil and gas production from domestic sources, including ANWR and the federal OCS, we may look back someday and realize that we failed to perceive a critical crossroad in the history of this nation. I don’t think it’s overly dramatic to say that this nation’s future and the quality of life for every American are dependent on the decisions you make or don’t make in the next few months.

    She is right.

Chuck, she is damned well more of an “energy expert” than Pinkie Reid will ever be. All he is expert at is stealing people’s homes and tax dollars. Oh, and lying. He is quite expert at lying his thieving ass off.

I don’t know… I have a difficult time getting excited over this information. I get the feeling that they’re just trying to cover for walking away from the issue earlier. As of right now they look bad and may say anything to win people back.
I don’t trust Pelosi and her cronies … that lady is crazier than a mattress full of bedbugs

Anna I don’t trust Pelosi there is a double cross here. They dems think they can stall until they think they are going to get major gains in seat, which may not happen for them. The GOP must stand strong and not compromise. I am sure there some leftard pork in here.

Just think, if Pelosi would put all her brain power and personal skills together to solve the energy crisis that she used on her trip to the Middle East she could have all of us farting through silk and buying gasoline at a buck a gallon.

After all, isn’t the Middle East now at peace after her visit.

Proof: While McCain backed the unpopular and ultimately successful surge, his stance on offshore drilling is exactly the opposite.

But McCain wasn’t preventing a vote in the House of Representatives, was he? No, that was Madame Pelosi, whose Iron Fist in the matter has apparently been broken (or at least dented a bit!)
This is the first benchmark for a democratic government in Washington!

Putting Pelosi in charge of energy development is like making Josef Mengele Secretary of medical research.

Here it is,”Oil rises on Opec production curb”

“After talks in Vienna, Opec president Chakib Khelil said the measures to curb over-production amounted to a cut of 520,000 barrels a day within 40 days.”

  11. RebTex on September 9th, 2008 at 10:26 am

    True
But his method was to terminate the Family just as pelosi seeked to terminate discussions concerning domestic drilling.

Chris Benoit… I was never a fan of that sport(?).

He had issues that should have been addressed and resolved without resorting to violence.

And there is going to be a massive up tick in terrorism in Indonesia because of this,”Meanwhile, Indonesia has suspended its membership of Opec.”, bet your ass on it.

“”The conference regretfully accepted the wish of Indonesia to suspend its full membership in the organisation and recorded its hope the country would be in a position to rejoin the organisation in the not too distant future,” Opec said in a statement.” This translates to “We will punish them for this insolence and force them to submit.”

Sarah Palin letter to Harry Reid on Energy Policy.
    Is she a “Energy Expert”?

    Any comments??

    ChairFace,

It is likely that the push for energy independence through an all-of-the-above approach,(the foundation of which is drill now) has driven oil prices down to near $100 a barrel. It has already proven to be the right move economically. It is also likely that allowing drilling will lower the price even more whether or not the oil will be available very quickly.

Or Chris Benoit in charge of Family Planning…

    AP alert just now:
VIENNA, Austria (AP) – OPEC ministers decide to curb overproduction by more than 500,000 barrels a day

Any dems want to bet me the price of oil won’t go up with this drop in supply?

I thought they said that they weren’t going to reduce production, that was on Fox news before I went to work today.

  20. ChairFace on September 9th, 2008 at 8:29 am

Proof: While McCain backed the unpopular and ultimately successful surge, his stance on offshore drilling is exactly the opposite. In this case, Obama is correct in asserting that drilling will neither alleviate oil prices in the short term nor reduce oil dependency in the long term. It is the wrong move in every respect, and is a placebo solution that is supported by McCain and Republicans simply to shore up votes. With increased demand from China and the rest of the developing world, gas prices are not coming down. Period.

Also, I doubt that Republicans will gain in the house, given national polling figures, regardless of what direction Pelosi takes on the energy issue.

  21. 2Hotel9 on September 9th, 2008 at 8:24 am

And yet, they refuse to tell the citizens of America what is in their”plan”. Why is that? What do they have to hide? They are our employees, and yet they refuse to do what we order them to do. Why is that, again?

  22. golfmann on September 9th, 2008 at 2:27 pm

    Yea, it’s a con….
But I think the damage for Dems in a lot of ways has been done.

And to all the Dems that say drilling won’t help.

You are showing your ignorance big time of how the real world works.

    By Mark Shenk

Sept. 9 (Bloomberg) — Crude oil fell to a five-month low in New York and Brent oil in London dropped below $100 a barrel as the Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan oil ministers signaled that OPEC will maintain production levels when it meets today in Vienna.
