Pelosi: “No Drilling”

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has apparently decided to use whatever procedural maneuvers are at her disposal to thwart any attempt to hammer out a compromise between Republicans in the White House and Congress and “blue Dog” Democrats to allow more domestic exploration and drilling for oil.

“The president of the United States, with gas at $4 a gallon because of his failed energy policies, is now trying to say that is because I couldn’t drill offshore,” Pelosi said in an interview. “That is not the cause, and I am not going to let him get away with it.”

And she and Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, appear intent on holding the line against calls to approve drilling in areas now off limits…

Representative John Boehner of Ohio, the Republican leader who is escorting a delegation to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge this weekend, said the Democratic approach was woefully insufficient. He said Pelosi, in insisting on preserving the drilling ban, was putting Democrats in the cross hairs of voters furious about gas prices.

Boehner is correct.  Last week’s Rasmussen poll had the price of oil as the single most important issue to most voters.  Pelosi is flagrantly playing partisan politics with the nation’s economic well-being.

In a private meeting last week, according to some in attendance, Pelosi told members of her leadership team that a decision to relent on the coastal ban would amount to capitulation to Republicans and the White House. She attributes today’s energy problems to a failure of the Bush administration to develop a comprehensive approach, its ties to the industry and a mishandling of the economy.

It’s astounding that anyone so clueless about basic economics could rise to the position of Speaker of the House.  Of course, she is a Democrat… which explains a lot.  Still, without some meaningful followup to the President’s order removing the Executive ban on further Alaska and offshore drilling, the price of oil, which dropped briefly below $130 a barrel today, will back pushing $150 per barrel in no time.

Its the economy, Stupid!

I think Drilling is going to be a good issue for the GOP, let the leftards keep obstructing and it will come back to haunt them…

AHHHH… goon has stumbled upon the reason the gop, while in complete control of our government, did nothing about oil during their reign.

The Democrats don’t have a veto proof majority, so they cant get legislation though anyway. Your boy W vetoes it all.

Face it, you guys fucked it all up, just leave it to Obama to fix it.

Stupidity on parade! Can you name two things that Bush has vetoed since he’s been President? One thing?? (without Googling it!)
One of the things that upset conservatives over Bush was his refusal to wield the veto pen.
You, my friend, are talking out of your ass!

Cool! Out of 11 total vetoes, (the first one coming about five years into his administration) bob named two of them! Waterboarding and health-labor.
So Buzz them other nine...were they all about energy and oil drilling?
You did say:

Your boy W vetoes it all.

Details, my man! Details!

Hell, Buzz! I’ll make it easy for you! Here’s a link that lists all twelve Presidential vetoes. All you have to do is read it and point out the ones that make your case! I’ll wait.

The Democrats don’t have a veto proof majority, so they cant get legislation though anyway.

Of those 12 vetoes, 4 (33%) were overridden.
So take the eight that remain, take away the two that bob named...of the six remaining, which ones make your point:

Your boy W vetoes it all.

And not a single one of them was about oil…

Curious....

It’s hardly W’s energy policies, because we never did what he wanted.

Holy crap! Clinton veteod 37! More than 3 times the number of Bush’s vetoes! What a far left wing partisan hack!

Practice saying this to yourself in the mirror, Buzz. Maybe next time you pull some half-baked falsehood out of your ass, you’ll think twice! (Or at least once!) Heh.

With all the talk for the idiots on the Left about Bush’s failed energy policies, I have yet to hear one Democrat explain what, and how, the liberals are prepared to DO to lower the price of oil and the price of gasoline.

Not one!

Buzz - Face it, you guys fucked it all up...

What does that mean?

Details?

Define the problem.

Supporting argument?

...just leave it to Obama to fix it.

What does “fix it” entail?

Details?

Define the problem and then offer solutions.

Supporting argument?

Too many Democrats, Nancy Pelosi and Buzz among them, offer only detached slogans. No details, no displayed understanding that they even know what the problem is, and no details.
