Pelosi Lies, Says Ethics Panel Said Rangel Didn’t Break Any Rules
Earlier today I posted that Rep. Charlie Rangel was the first member of Congress to be held accountable under ethics rules under the Democrat Congress (something that is not the result of our members of Congress behaving themselves). Nancy Pelosi, who upon seeing her party elected into the majority in Congress in 2006 declared that she would help lead the “most ethical Congress in history” is now defending Rangel.
Or, at least, engaging in some willful ignorance as to his ethical lapses. From The Hill:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she’s once again sticking by embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) — at least for now.
Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during a Friday press conference that she had not yet read the full report from the ethics committee, which admonished Rangel, the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, for improperly accepting reimbursement for two trips to the Caribbean.
“All I saw was the press release where they said he did not violate the rules of the House,” Pelosi said. “And I think that’s an important statement that they made.”
That’s a funny thing for Pelosi to say given that the report put out by the House Ethics Committee stated specifically that Rangel broke the rules:
The Report further finds that Representative Charles B. Rangel violated the House gift rule by accepting payment or reimbursement for travel to the 2007 and 2008 conferences.
Apparently Pelosi thinks we’re stupid.
