Parents Make Kid With Bad Grades Wear His Report Card On Street Corner

Humiliation is a good motivator.

I’m all for stuff like this. Far too often in our society we worry more about how things make people feel instead of what the consequences of certain actions are. Thus we have far too many people who aren’t ashamed at all to talk/write like they’re ignorant. Or who live off the charity of others (including entitlements from the government) without feeling the least bit bad of it.
In everything from scholastic sports where scores aren’t kept lest the losers be made to feel bad to our tax code which punishes the most successful among us for achieving more than the rest of us, we seem to be all about making people who fail comfortable while punishing those who succeed.
Which isn’t how it should work in a meritocracy like America is supposed to be.
Failure shouldn’t engender coddling. Failure should be shameful, and should serve as an impetus for more stabs at success.
I applaud these parents. Well done.

May seem like something that worked .But no doubt it would have left a very deep impact in the child’s mind that will stay for life. Does’nt sound a sensitive way of handling and is definitely not an issue to discuss in public.

With all due respect Rickymar, that’s a load of crap. I work in a high school with about 300 kids

    Ooops… my mistake.

The HS I work in has about 3000 kids not 300

isnt teaching..careing and going the extra distance for the kids ?

Most teachers do those things; but they are not fucking parole officers.

  • http://www.lilyputts.com/page.php?id=64 mickymar

I agree humility is a good teacher… But why are the teacher not there? Some kids just need the extra push for teachers, and if they say they dont have time…. well then they are in the wrong job… isnt teaching..careing and going the extra distance for the kids ?

Hannitized, The gov’t exposing your records has nothing to do with teaching this kid personal responsibility. Not to mention that is was this kid’s parent not the gov’t, oh yea the left advocates for no parental controls, Heil! Maybe this kid will learn something and not end up on the gov’t dole and in abject poverty. But it seems as if the left really encourages people to be a burden on society. Good for this parent. Better to learn those lessons young and stay out of the welfare ghettos.

  • Hannitized

    Hey Rob,

How about we put people criminal records around their necks too?

    Good idea right?

  • Hannitized

Another good point Sparkie. Rob is just trying to pretend he believes in personal responsibility after having been served and drinking the crap smoothie from Bush for 8 years.

  • Hungry Bear

I say we nominate this mom and dad for Parents of the Year.

One of the big problems with Americans and Europeans is that we have lost all sense of shame in doing poorly.

The reason the Asians our going to kick our asses academically, scientifically, and economically is because they take pride in doing good, and feel shame at mediocrity.

These parents are to be applauded.

You are all for your personal data being given to the pubic, such as your failing records?

If he puts them out there himself. Yes. Fail.

I think he equated HUMILIATION with torture, not wearing an F. The larger point Rob made was about using humiliation as motivation.

He equated torture with humiliation. Don’t be a fool.

    Hooraay for the parents.

The child seemed to be no more than a third-rate asshole intent on being disruptive.

This kid, with me, would thank god that he was able to wake up in the morning, look in the bath room mirror, see himself looking back and bend over and kiss his flithty ass and thank god he is blessed by being on earth for another day.

Petty shit, I would not put up with…

  • traceye

Ohhh that poor boy. How is that meant to teach him anything?

Shame and humilation are not the best change of behaviour method. It’s been shown that positive reinforcement works. Are his parents going to send him out on the street corner with a sign that has all A’s??

  • Hannitized

The gov’t exposing your records has nothing to do with teaching this kid personal responsibility.

Nice little bit of spin there. Notice how you label one action teaching responsibility and the other exposing your records?

That is intellectually dishonest, and lazy.

In truth and “fairness” we can also call what the government is doing as creatinging jobs that ensure cost effective measures are taken while we introduce a National Coordinator of Health Information Technology.

Maybe this kid will learn something and not end up on the gov’t dole and in abject poverty.

Or maybe he will learn to over compensate for his humiliation by trying to be “cooler”? Or maybe next time he will cheat.

All of you forgot one key ingredient. The Humiliation only works if the kid has self respect and cares about his education. If he doesn’t care about his education or his self respect, it was a meaningless tactic.

I bet you all would be screaming a different tune if your employers put your job performance around your neck.

    Jeeezus Christ.

With all due respect Rickymar, that’s a load of crap. I work in a high school with about 300 kids, and just about every teacher on campus makes themselves available before and after school to help those kids who need extra attention. Back when I taught 6th grade math, I made a point of offering a 45 minute class after school several days a week. In that class retaught the material I had covered that day in class. I didn’t get paid for teaching an extra class, I just did it to help the kids. The sad truth is that after a while the kids got tired of coming in after school. I started out with about 2 doven kids, and it gradually tapered off to only a few. Out of 120 kids, less than a dozen were willing to take advantage of free tutoring.

Children who fail aren’t failing because their teachers suck. In fact, most of the sucky teachers make sure all but the laziest kids pass to keep the administration off their back.

If this young man was failing several classes, it was because he was lazy and distracted by other more entyertaining activities.

Bravo to his parents for calling BS on him.

P.S. If people were that hurt by public humiliation, all “reality TV” would dissapear for lack of participants.

It says a lot about the stupidity of the liberal that they equate wearing a F with torture.

I think he equated HUMILIATION with torture, not wearing an F. The larger point Rob made was about using humiliation as motivation.

In Abu Grahib, humiliation came in the form of having naked men pile on-top of each other and that is against their religion and it was a form of mental distress and torture….to them.

It’s a cultural thing I suppose. I wouldn’t expect you to understand. But here’s an example.

In some cultures, it’s ok to sleep with a 13 year old. I personally think it is abuse and twisted. But that is my cultural upbringing interfering with my ability to relate to those sick bastards.

    Make sense?

  • Rezistik

Woof this is much different from torture, this is funny and a great parenting example.

Torture is an evil I could never support and I supported the ending of Guantanamo more than anyone…this isn’t the same game let alone the same league/ball park/etc.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

WOOF – Explains why you support torture.

I’ve talked to Rob about that, but he still insists on letting you, DINO, and other America-haters to comment here.

    Rob likes torture.

    Bullshit.

You can’t be upset that the government knows that you have a corn on your toe, and then be fine having your bad grades exposed to the entire world. That is not consistent.

But then again, consistency is never a common trait for people who have no principles.

  • mnconservative

Good for that parent! Our kids got in trouble in school and a bunch of us, instead of the school, proctored them during their in school suspension. That meant we escorted them to the lunchroom in front of their friends and to the restroom, you get the picture. Let’s say the kids didn’t mess up again, and the school didn’t have to pay for additional staff to watch the kids. They were 12 and did just what dumb 12 year old boys do.

This reminds me of a news report I heard 2-3 years ago on a Baltimore Radio station where a mother made her teenage daughter stand on a busy street corner with a sign reading “FUTURE HOMELESS PERSON IN TRAINING” after the mother found out she had been cutting school. The mother reasoned, i believed correctly, that if her daughter was cutting school and limiting her career options, she should begin practicing for her lifes work. If I recall correctly, the mother received a lot of hate mail.

    What an idiot.

Because at the end of the day it’s all the student’s fault.

    Tools of the sadist.

The truth isn’t sadism, but better a sadist than an enabler.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

How about making the kids parents, his teacher, and the school system stand their with him? Isolating the agency/responsibility in the child is pretty foolish, IMHO.

These people are announcing, “We are shitty parents.”
