Dan Riehl found a pretty troubling part of the health care bill that will allow the federal government, specifically the Secretary of Health, to determine what sort of care is and is not acceptable for you to get.

A “qualified health plan” means any health insurance plan in the US, including private plans most now currently employ. Well, except for our elected officials in DC, of course. They will get to make their own health care decisions. But not you, or your doctor.

Beginning 8 on January 1, 2015, a qualified health plan may contract with—
(B) a health care provider only if such provider implements such mechanisms to improve health care quality as the Secretary may by regulation require.

In plain English, any decision you, or your doctor, might make as regards your personal health care can and likely will ultimately have been pre-determined by Washington, DC. If a bureaucrat writes a regulation, and those will not be written or known until perhaps 18 months after this ridiculous bill has been passed, that will determine what is and what isn’t an acceptable health care choice for you, or your doctor.

I’ve spoken about the other side of this before. Both the House and Senate versions of the health care bill create insurance exchanges that all Americans must by their health care through. The government controls what insurance plans are offered on those exchanges. Now, per this part of the bill, your insurance company can only pay out to health care providers who meet the government’s standards for providing care.
Meaning, for instance, that if the government should decide to stop covering mammograms for women younger than 50 then you won’t be able to buy a plan which covers that, or go to a hospital which gives such screenings. The same goes for all sorts of treatments, drugs, medical devices, etc. If it isn’t government approved, you won’t get it.
So when the liberals tell you that this bill keeps your health care decisions between you and your doctor, they’re lying.

The best bet is to educate people about Economics, Government and pay attention to what wants to get voted in. All of this was no suprise if you listened to what was said during the election. What I think is really bad is that from now on no matter how bad this bill is Democrats will say the Evil Republicans are going to steal your healthcare. No one will realize it is being stolen NOW.

    There are many forms of rebellion, if the Federal Government decides to no longer work within the boundaries of the Constitution or worse, begins to take away Constitutionally protected rights. Then each of those forms should be tried in sequence in hopes of avoiding a violent revolution.

    It is my belief that in todays America we SHOULD be able to overthrow our oppresive government without a single drop of blood being shed. I stated that it seems to me, most likely the states will get involved and force the Fed to back down.

    Everyone will be assigned a QOLI number depending on your current health. Your QOLI will be adjusted periodically with health factors, lifestyle and age factored in. If your Quality Of Life Index is below a number which the government determines makes you a debit to The Health Plan you will be told to go home and die when you become ill. There is no way the government is going to not ration health care. People with chronic illnesses, deformities, advanced age, mental retardation, mental illness and bad habits will be factored out.     But your Liberal idols are NOT doing this health care “reform” by sticking to the law. The Constitution says nothing about granting that kind of power to the federal government. It does say, however, that any power not specifically granted to the federal government resides with the states or the people.

    Has Congress put this “reform” to a nation-wide vote? That would end the question one and for all of whether it was supported or not.

    If it were about majority rule, conservatives would be screwed. As we saw with health care, a few moderate democrats and republicans from small, sparsely populated states had a lot of control over the final product. Nelson-Nebraska, Lincoln-Arkansas, Snowe-Maine. If we really wanted to follow your “we invoke it when we need it” majority-rules caveat, conservatives would NEVER win a national election. Now when we still have a Senate and Electoral College.

    The liberals and moderates FAR outnumber you. FAR AND AWAY. California alone would rule this country. If electoral votes were proportional to population, a system that gives the white trash of Wyoming 3 votes would give CA over 200 instead of the 54 they get.

    So I wouldn’t push that “majority rule” thing or you’ll see a lot more than health care reform getting passed.
