Outrage Over Simmons Comments

Gene Simmons from KISS has ticked off Muslims with comments made during a recent Australian tour.

AP -
"I was asked about extremists," he said in an interview with The Associated Press. "And that's what I was talking about -- only extremists."

Simmons sparked outrage when Kiss toured Australia earlier this month with comments seen as attacking Islam.

"This is a vile culture and if you think for a second that it's willing to just live in the sands of God's armpit you've got another thing coming," Simmons said during an interview on Melbourne's 3AW radio. "They want to come and live right where you live and they think that you're evil."

He also hit Islam as sexist, saying its culture treated women worse than dogs.

"You can send your dog to school to learn tricks, sit, beg, do all that stuff -- none of the women have that advantage," the 54-year-old said.

Angry Muslims flooded the radio station with calls, furious over Simmons' comments.

If you ask me his comments were right on target as long as he was talking about extreme versions of Islam, and I have no reason to believe otherwise. Honestly, its refreshing to hear from somebody who is willing to put all the cards on the table and speak in a frank manner about a difficult topic.

I don't get this outrage from the Muslim community. They have to know that some of their extreme brethren are, to put it plainly, evil. The fact that Gene Simmons spoke honestly about this doesn't reflect poorly on him. The fact that some Muslims aren't willing to recognize the evil that exists among their own ranks does, however, reflect poorly on them.

I doubt that they really know that the extremists are evil. I think most Muslims think of the extremists as being misguided.

Well call it “evil” or “misguided,” the fact of the matter is extreme Islam is wrong and more moderate Islam needs to stop making excuses for it and protecting it.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

If they do not understand the meaning of “evil” then perhaps they need to double check their entire philosophy.
You know, I never really liked Gene Simmons (before my time), but he has earned a bit of respect from me for not being afraid to speak his mind.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the older celebrities tend to be more conservative than their young counterparts.

I think this holds true for the rest of America too.  People tend to be more liberal when they’re younger and become more conservative as they age.  This, of course, isn’t always true but it seems to be generally true.
