Ouch: Obama Has 51% Disapproval Among Independents, Opposition To Health Care Bill At Record High
Don’t expect Obama’s to be hitting the campaign trail very often in support of his fellow Democrats in next year’s election season.
President Obama’s approval rating has hit a new low of 46 percent, according to a FOX News poll released Thursday. An equal number—46 percent—disapprove of the job he’s doing.
Breaking down the numbers by political party shows how sharply split American voters are over the president’s job performance. While 85 percent of Democrats approve of their party leader, 80 percent of Republicans and 51 percent of independents disapprove.
As bad as Obama’s poll numbers are looking (and just 34% of independents approving is ugly) he’s at least a little more popular than the health care bill he and his fellow Democrats are trying to slam through Congress.
Opposition to Obama on health care has reached its highest level now as well, with a majority of Americans now saying for the first time that they’re against his plan. While support has remained steady with Democrats, Republicans and independents are becoming more firm in their push back. 92% of GOP voters say no, up from 84% a month ago, as do 58% of independents, up from 47% in October. It’s interesting to note that even as independent voters have hardened their opposition on health care their overall support for Obama remains unchanged. Overall 52% of voters say they’re opposed to Obama on health care with 40% supportive.
Harry Reid’s got a Saturday vote scheduled on health care (Democrats are coming to love these weekend, off-the-radar votes on unpopular bills). Which begs the question, how much longer can Democrats continue to take hits as they try to pass this bill?
Are they willing to lose their majority over the health care bill? Time will tell.
