Oprah Won’t Have Palin On Her Show, Afraid It Will Hurt The One’s Campaign

Oprah won’t be putting Sarah Palin - right now the nation’s most popular politician - on her show.  Because she’s afraid it might hurt The One’s campaign.

“Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on,” an insider explains. “Oprah’s website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama.”

One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!

You’d think Oprah would want Palin on the show.  After all, Palin could very well be the nation’s first female Vice President and is currently the darling of most Americans.  Oprah is a show with a heavy female demographic.  In fact, I thought Oprah and her show was all about empowering women.  So it’s a natural, no?

If I were a liberal I’d probably be screaming about the fairness doctrine.  And indeed, given that Oprah’s show airs on NBC which in turn is broadcast in communities across the nation, the fairness doctrine might even be made to apply.

But I am not a liberal, I love free speech, and I feel that Oprah should be able to do with her show whatever she wants.

That, however, won’t stop me from chuckling about yet another entertainment industry liberal so thoroughly in the bag for Obama that they won’t even consider talking to a Republican.

Update: Oprah responds:

OPRAH’S STATEMENT: “The item in today’s Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over.”

She wont use her show as a platform for any candidate?  That’s baloney.  She had Obama on her show.  Is she suggesting that his appearance on her show (in conjunction of her personal endorsement of him) didn’t help his campaign?

Oprah must think we’re stupid.

Well of course it’s Oprah’s show.

I’m just laughing at how scared all you liberals are of Palin.

Palin is a force of nature.  This will actually help Palin and hurt Oprah.  How can Oprah say she is “the voice of women” when she won’t even talk to one of the most popular women on the planet right now?

We win again.  If they talk to Sarah we win.  If they won’t talk to Sarah, we win.

Us magazine is finding out how unprofitable it is to dis Sarah.

I for one no longer watch the Oprah show. I believe she is also a good friend of The Rev Wright. Personally anyone affiliated with that idiot won’t get my attention. BUT I am sure she will do just fine without me.

Zsa Zsa on September 5, 2008 at 09:35 am

Actually she used to belong to his church but quit it.

As Rob says, it’s her show and she can do what she wants.

On the other hand her viewers now know that she’s not interested in giving both sides on her show.

I had read (probably here) that she lost viewers for her treatment of Hillary.  This is going to hurt her even more.

I agree that it is her show and she is allowed to bring on the guests that she wants. I do not have a problem with that. The problem will come when her fan base goes down and her viewer ship declines. Then it will be a right wing conspiracy to attack her because the right does not believe in free speech. Which will be a typical reaction by the small minded dem’s. They can say whatever they wish but if someone reacts to it and practices their right of free speech they are aghast.

I think this conversation is interesting esp. the lack of facts coming from non Oprah watchers. First, Oprah did not have a presidential candidate on her show. She had Obama on her show before he announced his candidacy and his purpose on the show was to promote his book. She asked him if he would consider running and he said it wasn’t in his plan but you never know. Bias was a great thing to site here, because this article is not only full of a bias view, but it is grossly inaccurate. Further more, her ratings may have declined, but not enough to stop her. Extreme republicans will not affect her, her show, nor her lifestyle. I will attribute all of this griping to individuals that want to see Palin on as much TV as possible. I wish she would appear more, because I’m interested in hearing her plan of action, she didn’t say ANYTHING at the RNC so I want her to be given more opportunities to lay out her and McCain’s plans for action and change.

cj on September 5, 2008 at 10:51 pm

Really?
It’s been a nearly 4 year campaign for obama.
He started it with his speech at the last DemCon.
Aside from that, it’s well reported that his campaign has been running for over 17 months.
When okra stood on a political stage with obama, she endorsed him & lent her brand mark to him.
So, yes, Victoria, she HAS had him on during his campaign.
