Open Thread: Where Does Earl Pomeroy Go From Here?

Written By:

Ok readers, here’s a question for you this Friday evening: Where does Earl Pomeroy go from here?

This is what he told the Bismarck Tribune:

Pomeroy said he’s a blank slate and is answering every call he gets, but said the energy sector, pensions and insurance and health care are all fields he might be interested in.

He said he’ll miss working on a lot of the issues he was involved with but said he’ll enjoy having a more narrow professional focus.

When asked if that one focus would drive him into lobbying, Pomeroy said, “I’m not thinking about taking any generic client and buttonholing my former colleagues,” but he didn’t rule out the possibility.

Pomeroy said he wants to have an easier commute than the one he’s had for the past 18 years, but he said he hopes to find work regionally and return to Bismarck on the weekends. After his kids graduate from high school, then perhaps he’ll move to Grand Forks to live with his wife, Mary, who teaches school there.

As for his political future, Pomeroy said, “I don’t have my new life fully formed yet, but it’s very possible I’ve run my last campaign.

“I was never running for the purpose of seeing how long I could be there.”

By the way, Pomeroy didn’t serve in Congress long enough, nor is he old enough, to qualify for full pension, but I do believe he’s qualified for some level of partial pension.

But the question is: Where will Earl Pomeroy pop up next?

Lobbyist? Does he run for another political office?

I think it’s very likely that he may well run for governor here in North Dakota.
