Only 40% Of Texans Support Accepting Stimulus Money

You gotta love Texas.

The plurality of Texas voters (47%) support Governor Rick Perry’s opposition to accepting the state’s $17 billion share of the national economic stimulus package.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 40% think the governor should accept the money, and 13% are undecided.
Perry is one of several Republican governors who don’t want the money, primarily because he believes it will create new programs that state taxpayers will later have to finance to keep going. Democrats in the state are urging the governor to take the federal money.

Governor Perry’s concern over the stimulus creating unnecessary and expensive government that must be supported by taxes paid by Texans once the “stimulus” money runs out is a valid one, and something I worry about here in my home state of North Dakota.
We came into the current legislative session with a $1 billion+ surplus. A lot of our budget for the next two years is already written. Our Governor has already his spending suggestions clear, and it’s hard to imagine (the never-ending mewling of bureaucrats aside) that there is a single project or agency in the state that is suffering from a lack of sending. Now we’ve got over half a billion dollars in federal money coming to us on the big government gravy train, and what is going to happen to that?
It should go to fund the tax relief our “Republican” political leadership says we can’t afford, but I suspect it will be thrown down to the various state agencies who will then invent ways to spend it. Which, of course, will grow government. And once the stimulus money runs out these same bureaucrats will be clamoring for more funding for all the new government the “stimulus” created.
And indeed, I’m already hearing rumblings from within the various state agencies that most of them have no idea what they’re going to do with this money.
Which makes me wonder why our “Republican” Governor John Hoeven didn’t have the same sort of conviction Governor Perry does in saying no to this unnecessary spending.

Boy, speaking from the Lone Star State, I can tell you guys that Governor Perry is being savaged by the mainstream press here in Texas, as well as the Democrats in the state legislature. He definitely needs some political cover regarding the stimulus from blogs and other conservative circles.

How’s that Market bounce working out for you Obama idiots Moonbat Dino?

  • carrick

    Dino:

    A republican turn down money?

Republicans pay more money to the state than they get back. Democrats it’s the opposite.

Easy for you to get confused I know.

But only because you are really, really a very stupid person..

  • docdave

I agree with tom that dino serves no useful purpose. We have other lefties here that at least can present something original from time to time, so we definitely don’t need dumbass dino to present the same tired message again and again..

If you included the STRINGS that were attached to that money in the poll question, I’m sure the number who would oppose it would be even more!

  • pparets

Again, I disagree. For sheer vulgarity, blind ego, stupidity and deviant tendencies, no one comes close to dino. He is a living symbol of the cesspool this country would become if he and his ilk were to triumph.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/america_is_back/#c397018 DINO

I once knew a conservative who ate his mother because someone told him he’d shit money if he did.

  • pparets

I disagree. Dino serves as a constant reminder of why we are in this fight. We need to remember that sewer-slugs like him are everywhere.

  • TomTom

Dino is a Kos plant…all the blogs have them…O’Reilly, Hannity, They stir up shit and try to get conservatives banned by baiting them. They have no function on a conservative board. What? We’re going to listen to Dino’s Lying drivel about Muslim Barry…Put his ass on IGNORE..

  • pparets

dino… surely you’re not suggesting that liberals would turn down money?

  • TomTom

Perry says Texas will take its share of stimulus package, but he has reservations

“On behalf of the people of Texas, please allow this letter to certify that we will accept the funds in H.R.1 and use them to promote economic growth and create jobs in a fiscally responsible manner that is in the best interest of Texas,” Perry wrote in a letter to Obama that was released by the governor’s office.

Liar little dinostem describes Dems, who are always greedy for other peoples’ money, with their wasteful social spending, Obama’s pork spending bill, and his massive deficit spending.

I once knew a conservative who ate his mother because someone told him he’d shit money if he did.

    That’s not a Conservative, that’s a lunatic.

Why is DINO not banned from this blog? Seriously, he doesn’t actually add anything constructive, he merely incites flaming.
