Online Freedom Of Speech Act

Rep. Jeb Hensarling:

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that my bill, the Online Freedom of Speech Act (H.R. 1606), will be considered next Wednesday, November 2nd, on the House floor. As many of you know, the bill is intended to protect online political discourse from FEC regulation. I strongly believe such regulation would needlessly limit public debate and deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights. A House vote on H.R. 1606 is a big win for freedom, and I appreciate your support.

Here's a summary of the bill (there ain't much to it).

Contact your Representative and tell him/her to support this. This isn't a partisan issue, this is about keeping blogs and the internet open for free and unregluated political discourse.

Rob, do you know what the federal campaign act of 71 does? Don’t you wonder how this relates to a bill that deals with disclosure of campaign money exchange?

Here’s my wild guess, not an insult but way too typical so yeah it’s an insult: you don’t know squat about what this bill really does, you don’t know squat about the original act it intends to change but you know this guy’s a staunch republican so you’re all for it. It’s about more than keeping the internet free...the internet is already free. His interest is in the moolah exchange and the reporting of it. Please read up on it and report back.

KIS, after reading that I’m wondering if you even know what planet you’re on.  I mean, did you read the bill’s summary?  Or is the real knee-jerk reaction here your opposition to anything proposed by a Republican?

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.
