One In Three Children Think Earth Will Be Destroyed Before They Grow Up

And why wouldn’t they given the environmental hysteria they’re indoctrinated with on a daily basis.

There’s a new bogeyman lurking in the closet, and this one isn’t imaginary. Us. One out of three children aged 6 to 11 fears that Ma Earth won’t exist when they grow up, while more than half—56 percent—worry that the planet will be a blasted heath (or at least a very unpleasant place to live), according to a new survey.
Commissioned by Habitat Heroes and conducted by Opinion Research, the telephone survey polled a national sample of 500 American preteens—250 males and 250 females.
On a sliding scale of anxieties, minority kids have it worst; 75 percent of black children and 65 percent of Hispanic children believe that the planet will be irrevocably damaged by the time they reach adulthood.

What I wonder is this: What happens when these kids grow up and find out that for all these years the hysteria about the environment and global warming they’ve been sold on has been complete bunk. That there was never ever really a need to be scared?
That could lead a backlash the environmentalists aren’t going to like.
Of course, there’s not really anything wrong with teaching kids that pollution is wrong. I don’t think anyone, regardless of their views on global warming, wants to live in a place that’s dirty and polluted. But we’ve gone beyond that. We’re scaring the kids now. And I think the liberals are doing it because they want these kids to grow up to be good little liberal activists who don’t even think about why they’re scared about global warming, but just feel scared.
Indoctrination, not education.

No, ID and anthropogenic global warming are in league all their own.

Only an atheist would say that. Even Carrick would say that darwinism is fact (notice I didn’t say evolution which Carrick would say is different from Darwinism).

  • docdave

I don’t think anthropogenic global warming should be taught in schools any more than intelligent design should.

These are as factual as darwinism.

  • sayanything-5371

mantrained, you have never said ANYTHING that makes a lick of sense.

  • docdave

G-d exists on faith alone. He does not hand out evidence, ID cards, etc. Evolution exists even if you don’t believe in it. G-d doesn’t exist for you unless you do believe.

Many things exist on faith alone. Think of the faith you have to have to believe that there is no God. If we can’t prove that there is a God, no one can prove that there isn’t either. You may argue that disproving is not the scientific way but real science explores all sides, positive and negative. As an engineer for over 40 years, I found that good problem solving (which is basically what science is) assumed nothing.

Your atheist comment is sharply limited to one possibly useless specie which doesn’t prove a thing. Ask your friend to explain how atoms came to be and why all elements consist of the same atomic components yet are uniquely different.

I have considered creation from the science point of view and have come to the conclusion that nothing that is in the unverse as we know it (can’t rule out multi-verses) came to be by chance.

  • carrick

Kenny, I think the scientific consensus is that Darwin’s evolution is wrong, or at least incomplete. ID has the problem that it can’t be falsified.

Read Earnst Eayr if you want to get a somewhat more comprehensive theory.

And by the way, Richard Dawkins is an ignorant twit. He writes a lot for somebody who gets so much of modern evolutionary though completely ass-backwards.

  • Cass.Mastha

I don’t think they want “little Liberal Activists”

They (like all rulers) want a population that believes their propaganda, follows orders, and stays fearfully within the confines of the reality that is created for them.

Oppression would be a good term for this sort of brain washing.

Unfortunately, parents are so busy these days working the confines of money — that they have little time to un-wash their children — assuming that they know the difference between propaganda and truth.

That should read “Dawinism isn’t fact”.

  • 2Hotel9

Really, we are supposed to take the word of a spambot that is too stupid to put the link for its rip off bullshit in its spambot post. I don’ t’inkso, Lluuccyy!

  • Mark

Teachers shouldn’t be allowed to teach “myths”. Or even teach their own opinion.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. That’s what’s happening to these kids being indoctrinated like they are.

  • 2Hotel9

Come to think of it, they will behave exactly like dinothefakehomo, sannitized, woofie, buzzed, and boob.

Never mind, we is all there already!

Along with Conservatives closely following the Nazi ideal of a “Master Race”** Cons also closely adhere to the ideals of Social Darwinism.

Social Darwinism is a belief, popular in the late Victorian era in England, America, and elsewhere, which states that the strongest or fittest should survive and flourish in society, while the weak and unfit should be allowed to die.

**NOTE: In the context of Fundie/Cons it is a “Master Culture”, although I believe it would not take much for the Cons to condone gas chambers to reach their goals as the Right-Wing Authoritarian Leaders justify evil for their mindless drones on a daily basis through their Reich-Wing media outlets.

  • 2Hotel9

DHS is right, anyone who believes humans are destroying the “environment” are extremists with a high probability of joining militias and committing terrorist acts.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Not unverifiable claims about reality like the Churchmen.

Churchmen say sparkie sniff glue, sparkie become moron.

  • docdave

    ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I want to scream whenever this nonsense comes up. If I hear one thing more about only atheists…

suite my comment had to do the attempt to equate ID with AGW which is nonsense. Dealing only with creation ID stands as a plausible theory since there is nothing to refute it. That is not true with AGW.

  • 2Hotel9

Carrick, that threw me! I was sitting here thinking “Eayr, Eayr, who is this Eayr?”

And I am still waiting for anyone, from either point of the political/ideological compass, to prove God is not using evolution to create the world at this very moment. Stumped a theologian over at Grove City with that one, he loves it. Working on fining it down into a thoroughly irrefutable position. I told him he is over thinking. Then again, that is organized religion in a nutshell.

  • http://www.valleydeals.com/cgi-bin/board2/YaBB.pl Kevin

The only solution is bigger government, less freedom and higher taxes.

  • Cass.Mastha

Swords instead of money. Ha! Or how about a Meritocracy. ? Neither would ever work.

  • http://insanereindeer.blogspot.com/ Kenny

ID is LESS plausible. More like the “ufo aliens built the pyramids” idea. Evolution has solid evidence in the genetic code, fossil record, molecular chemistry. ID has none.

    That’s not even remotely true.

The common argument is that since evolution is observable on a small scale (small, insignificant change within species), that it is obviously true that everything came from one common ancestor, which came from nothing! This logic is so piss poor, and so ridiculous that it boggles the mind.

Reading books by great minds like Behe and the like destroys this silly myth that there is no science behind ID, and that it’s all superstitutous bunk. These men use not only logic but present scientific evidence that bolsters their claims. Irreducable complexity comes to mind as one of the more persuading pieces of evidence.

I’m tired of people pretending that the case for Darwin’s Evolution is completely foolproof, and ID is nothing but holes.

  • 2Hotel9

Good deal, Nathaniel. Now the trick is to be prepared for what actually happens! There is where the metal strikes the meat.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

why wouldn’t they given the environmental hysteria they’re indoctrinated with on a daily basis.

Indoctrination is a good word for it. Back when I was home schooling my kids, I got a sample “Weekly Reader” sent to me. For map skills, instead of seeing which country produced more wheat or corn or iron, they little tykes were supposed to determine which countries produced the most “ozone destroying chlorofluorocarbons”.

  • Nathaniel

Hey I was one of those kids. I’m not scared any more. I’m prepared.

  • barbh

If you’d drop the “liberal” versus “conservative” bashing nonsense, maybe you’d have a chance for a meaningful dialog.

  • Hannitized

What I wonder is this: What happens when these kids grow up and find out that for all these years the hysteria about the environment and global warming they’ve been sold on has been complete bunk. That there was never ever really a need to be scared?

No different than religion. How many kids grow up believing that they will go to hell if they masturbate? How many will wake up realizing they wont go to hell for being born gay?

    Yawn.

  • 1224

maybe its not global warming they fear, maybe its the doomsday soothsaying going on, which no doubt the media co-opts. maybe they just sense the bad hierarchy looming over us.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

    “smart people versus idiots?”

  • 2Hotel9

Hey, Cass, we are all curious. How is it going, your living life without money? We are just burning to know how that is working out.

  • 2Hotel9

Oh, and the answer to the question”What will these kids do when they figure out it was all a lie?” is they will say fuck government, fuck science, fuck law, I will do whatever I want and fuck everyone else.

  • http://www.sportsdiamond.com/ Raywilis

    Stop scaring children!

  • Hannitized

fuck government, fuck science, fuck law, I will do whatever I want and fuck everyone else.

Now lets go shoot some rodents with brass, and copper bullets.

  • jimmypop

why do we care about this? i thought we all died in the nuclear war that took place in the 80′s. i know thats what we were told was gonna happen.

  • Hannitized

    That too!

    Meant to write Earnest Mayr.

    It’s late.

This leftie scare tactic reminds me of a verse in Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War”:

“For threatenin’ my baby; unborn and unnamed; you ain’t worth the blood that runs in your veins”.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

    docdave

These are as factual as darwinism.

That’s correct. ‘Darwinism’ is a fucked-up social view that emerged among right wing business men who misinterpreted actual Charles Darwin’s theory of dissent by natural selection. It is pure pseudo-science. Darwin, however, was a great scientist and a very keen observer of reality. He didn’t run to authority to figure out how the world is, like you Christian conformists, he looked for himself. He proposed two theses. The first is the descent of the species from common ancestry. The second is a claim about the mechanism of this evolution, namely that it occurs through natural selection. Natural selection, for Darwin, was not ‘progressive’ with humans at the top of the corporeal existences like previous views of descent of the species.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

i thought we all died in the nuclear war that took place in the 80′s. i know thats what we were told was gonna happen.

    heh. jimmypop with the zinger.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

Intelligent design is, simply put, not a scientific theory. Scientific theories make claims about the world that can either be found true or false. ID does no such thing. Ergo, it does not even qualify as a scientific hypothesis.

  • http://suitepotato.blogspot.com/ sayanything-4808

ID is LESS plausible. More like the “ufo aliens built the pyramids” idea. Evolution has solid evidence in the genetic code, fossil record, molecular chemistry. ID has none. UFO aliens making the pyramids has none. AGW has less than none because the evidence runs counter to it.

As far as nothing to refute it, scientifically that is not how things work. You have to produce evidence for something and there’s none. Zip, zero, nada.

Religiously, that’s the way it SHOULD be. A noted atheist ironically put it best.

Now it is such a bizarrely improbably coincidence that anything so mindbogglingly useful [the Babel fish] could have evolved by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.
The argument goes something like this: “I refuse to prove that I exist,” says God, “for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.”
“But,” says Man, “the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn’t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don’t. QED.”
“Oh dear,” says God, “I hadn’t thought of that,” and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic. -Douglas Adams / The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

G-d exists on faith alone. He does not hand out evidence, ID cards, etc. Evolution exists even if you don’t believe in it. G-d doesn’t exist for you unless you do believe.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

And why wouldn’t they given the environmental hysteria they’re indoctrinated with on a daily basis.

And why wouldn’t they given the Christian apocalyptic hysteria they’re indoctrinated with on a daily basis.

  • http://suitepotato.blogspot.com/ sayanything-4808

Evolution is fact. Even the Catholic Church isn’t fighting that. The only ones holding on are born-agains and a few extreme charedi rabbis. For crying out loud we prove evolution in dog, cat, horse, and cow breeding all the time. We prove it every time two people reproduce and give their kids their hair, eyes, tendency for certain diseases…

    ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I want to scream whenever this nonsense comes up. If I hear one thing more about only atheists…

    GRRRR…

As far as the subject of the children believing things goes, was the last couple of generations different? Did no one see Lewis Black going on about how he was told to avoid atomic bombs in school by hiding under his desk, which he pointed out amounted to telling him to hide under kindling?

The Day After? Threads? A new ice age? Silent Spring?

Come on people, we see this constantly. It sucks, but if you want to stop this, you need to smash the teachers’ unions and if you want to do that, you need to send your kids into the teaching profession. It’s not glamorous and I’ve never met a parent yet who’s said, “son, you need to be a school teacher.”

Fun factoid: the majority of teachers come from the bottom quartile of college students. Conservatives tend to raise smarter offspring. Top quartile people don’t become teachers too often. Liberals are morons. You can see where that goes.

    Anyhow, not too surprised.
