Olbermann: Palin Is An Elitist For Attacking Community Organizers

I just heard Keith Olbermann suggest that Sarah Palin is an “elitist” because she criticized Obama for being a community organizer.

My reaction?  I wonder what Obama is then for sneering at Sarah Palin’s time as a mayor of small town in western America?

I think someone needs to get the MSNBC people to watch their broadcasts after they air because I don’t think they know how stupid they sound.

On a related note, a reader emails:

What do you call a gang member who gets into politics?

A community organizer.

Since when has community service been a bad thing? It seems like a very popular thing to me among people of all walks of life, including church-going right-wingers.

Ed Kohler on September 3, 2008 at 10:16 pm

Community organizing is exploiting community issues for political gain; it is the opposite of community service.

To be clear: In community service, the politician serves the needs of the community; in community organizing, the community serves the needs of the politician.

Who is degenerating community service?

Good luck with your straw man. It has already been busted here, so it would serve your time better to peddle the bullshit question elsewhere.

Keith is such a douch. He actually believes he’a a news anchor and a journalist, but he’s just a tool of the liberal media and MSNBC. How sad. He should have stuck with ESPN because he’s just making a fool of himself now. Mainstream media has lost all credibility and eventually tools like him will be out of work. Society is sick of the liberal bias associated with most mainstream media outlets and change is on the horizon. The pendulum will eventually swing back to fair and balanced reporting if we continue to push for change.

Infant for Obama: You guys really need to make up (what passes for) your minds! Is she a podunk hick or an elitist? Kinda hard to be both!

This just seems to be another example of flinging whatever crap you can find and hoping something sticks. That’s the kind of “Hope” you’re left with, because nothing has “Changed”.

I watched Palin’s speech last night. She NAILED it. And as soon as it was over I flipped over to MSNBC to see what their reaction was.

Olberman looked like his dog had died.

Palin the Impaler just drove a stake right up the Dem’s collective backsides and he knew it. The rest of the was almost as somber. Andrea Mitchel interviewed Rudy Giuliani and guess what was missing? That smug, superior look she wears when she does her thing. She, too, looked kile she had just backed over her cat in the driveway.

A lot of Dems had a sleepless night last night, I suspect.

Obama’s “community organizer” phase was about political power, not soup kitchens

Basically he was a strong-man for the Chicago Political Machine.  Read the article, you’ll understand why it’s called that, and why what Obama was doing didn’t have much to do with philanthropy.  Though I’m sure that’s the impression he was trying to give suckers like you.

As a “community organizer” with ACORN, I’m sure that Obama was busy enrolling imaginary voters to take the place of all the dead ones who couldn’t make it to the polls that year!

Has anyone set out a job description for a Community Organizer?  I think Palin nailed it last night--Community Organizer---are there responsibilities that go with that title?
In a way, it is too bad that the first African American (?) to get a Presidential nomination is so totally unqualified for the most important job in the U.S.A.
As I said, Sarah nailed it last night.

The closest example to a community organizer is the panhandler who agressively asks for money.

The rubbishing of community organizing by Palin and Giuliani is classic republican and I agree with the commentators. Community organizations are the backbone of the civil rights movement, the women’s suffrage movement (fought for women’s voting rights) and is a much more effective tool when government has obviously failed its people as it has in this era of Bush-McCain policies. Since you live in a mansion in Alaska, what do you know about inner city crime and poverty and minorities,– nothing! Minorities across this country (including women) have gained largely from these movements. Word to you Gov. Palin, if Martin Luther King and the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement and African Americans would have waited for Senators, Mayors and Governors such as yourself to bring equality and justice to their people, you tell me where we would be! Change comes when ordinary people take it upon themselves to do extraordinary things! That’s community organizing.

Civil rights.  Women’s suffrage.  Ok.  But women already have the right to vote, and the civil rights movement has long since by hijacked by poverty pimps who would rather their constituents remain poor and stupid.

If being a community organizer is so great, what exactly did Obama do as a community organizer that makes him great?

Community organizing is when the public is used by the politician for partisan political purposes.
Community service is when the politician serves the public, at the expense of his time and sometimes, his own money.
Obama’s organizing was for the purposes of his racist black liberation theology and Marxist purposes, not for the good of the community he exploited to build his resume.

Deshawn,
I think you do a disservice to the millions of volunteers who wake up each day and decide not to depend on government to effect change in their communities. Isn’t John McCain a proponent of service to the community - the greater good? But lets drop the pointless pontificating - here are a few specifics.

He registered thousands of new voters to vote and force the government to bring change to their community

Forced the local government to assist in the cleaning out of asbestos-laden houses in the chicago projects

He worked with people who had lost jobs and been left behind when the local steel plants closed.

Again, I say this, if MLK and the Civil rights movement, heck even Ghandhi - had waited on politicians to effect change, where would we be? Community organizers have a profound effect on local communities afflicted with hardships which a Bush-McCain government conveniently ignores. Since you rubbish the civil rights movement, I assume you’re probably clueless as to the profound effect it has had on African Americans and minorities.

C,

Keep talking H, your ignorance is showing.

My ignorance is showing for making a comment about the difference between community organizing vs. community services???

Ok....whatever you say kid.

Why do you guys keep acting like Sarah Palin didn’t have political ambition?  Do you really think capitalizing on the FBI investigation wasn’t anything but a political power grab???

Are you kidding me?

Obviously that commenter went to the Chicago Public Schools.  For reference, the South Side also has far more crime, corruption, and scandals than a couple dozen Alaskas, and the average graduate of Chicago schools reads at a sixth grade level--this of course doesn’t count the third of their students who don’t even graduate.

This argues for Mssr. Obama exactly how?  Maybe it makes sense to the millions of dead voters in Chicago.

Deshawn dribbles out, ...and is ["community organizing"] a much more effective tool when government has obviously failed its people as it has in this era of Bush-McCain policies.

What “Bush-McCain policies”?

He [Obama] registered thousands of new voters to vote and force the government to bring change to their community

What change?

He worked with people who had lost jobs and been left behind when the local steel plants closed.

“Left behind”? What does that mean?

Community organizers have a profound effect on local communities afflicted with hardships which a Bush-McCain government conveniently ignores.

You’re bringing up the long ago “Civil Rights” movement as your example. Where are the modern day examples? You conveniently don’t mention them.

Since you rubbish the civil rights movement...

Who are you talking to here? Can you quote where anybody “rubbished” the “civil rights” movement?

I assume you’re probably clueless as to the profound effect it has had on African Americans and minorities.

You do a lot of assuming and talk a lot of shit, but you’re very vague.

Palin knows that the only reason she is on the ticket is to get the Religious vote and satisfy Big Oil. She Governs an OIL State, is a Global Warming denier, and a bonafide Religious extremist. Obama CHOSE to return to his Community Organizer gig straight out of HARVARD! The man was Editor of the Harvard Lar Review, the most prestegious LAw Journal in the Country, and instead of taking a cushy big money job at a Law Firm, He went back to serve the frigging Community! The thing people can’t seem to grasp about Obama is, the man has real ideals. His meteoric rise to the Senate and Dem nominee is IMHO a testament to how desperately Americans want an untainted, un sold-out, non-Religious Right pandering, non-Big Oil pandering (Palin is BOTH!), SMART President. Bush AND Cheney are in FULL SUPPORT of MCCain and Palin! How much clearer does the writing on the wall need to be???
