Obama’s “Willie Horton” Ad?
This is gonna hurt:
I’m not particularly in favor of the death penalty, but the fact that more Americans are probably murdered in Chicago than Baghdad on a month-to-month basis makes the ad particularly moving.

That’s a very powerful spot. I hope it gets air time.
I don’t think it’s fair to use “Big Ears” record against him.
After all he’s for change.
What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity? I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.
Rob: This post needs to go up on Breitbart!
"Here lies, in honored glory, an American soldier, known but to God.”
The stakes are high. Whether the issue is the economy, or energy, or the federal courts or national security, the right answers are coming not from the Democrats, but from the Republicans. The surge of operations that began a year ago is succeeding. The only way to lose this fight is to quit. Richard M. Cheney, Vice President, 30 May, 2008
I agree Wing Chun, this should get some airtime.
A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.
This is powerful, gang members are afraid of dying. If Obama had passed that bill, those gang members would go back to selling lemonade. Because death is a deterrent to them.
What do gangmembers do to discourage others from doing what they don’t want them to do?
Sue them?

I doubt it is gang members this commercial is trying to convince.

Actually, the bill might not have but it would have been a start.
I don’t think this should be diminished as an issue. There are a lot of places where gang activity represents more than half of all crime. And these gangs are domestic terrorist groups.
I believe that there are a whole lot of things that should be done on the gang front. Those include:
1. Deporting all non-citizenb gang members.
2. Putting them in prisons where they cannot continue gang activity. Which means we need to fundamentally change prison conditions making them harsher for gang members (and safer for non gang members).
3. Restoring discipline to our school system.
4. And using the death penalty to permanantly remove the most violent gang members from both society and our prison roles.
Obama had a chance to take one small step towards reducing the terror that many people in gang infested areas live with. He chose to side against the decent people and side with those who coddle the gangs.
His choice was clear, and it’s fiar to use against him.
Hannitized, if gang members aren’t afraid of dying, explain to me why they tend to avoid confrontations with the police, and why they tend to prefer to stay in areas where armed resistance is unlikely--although the “haul” from robbing suburban homes could be much greater.
Even if you were right, though, reality is that very few gangbangers commit crimes after their executions, and that the best evidence we have indicates that every execution deters about 18 murders. It’s quite cost effective.
I doubt it is gang members this commercial is trying to convince.
So are you saying the commercial, that you think is powerful, is dishonest? Because why would a citizen care if a gang member gets the death penalty as opposed to a life sentence?
Bingo!
So now, you are left with what? That the death penalty is merely a deterrent, which it is not....to these guys anyway.
Hannitized, if gang members aren’t afraid of dying, explain to me why they tend to avoid confrontations with the police,
Because they dont want to get arrested? Possibilities are endless. Are you saying police kill gang members on site?
and why they tend to prefer to stay in areas where armed resistance is unlikely--although the “haul” from robbing suburban homes could be much greater.
So suburbia has gangs that might kill them? That is your explanation why they don’t go into suburbia?
Even if you were right, though, reality is that very few gangbangers commit crimes after their executions, and that the best evidence we have indicates that every execution deters about 18 murders. It’s quite cost effective.
Or if they get a life sentence. Same difference.
Actually, while suburbia may have some gangs, I’d suggest that gangbangers have more to fear from armed suburbanites who actually know how to fire a pistol accurately, and will do so in defense of their homes, family, and selves.
Sorry, I don’t buy the idea that gangbangers aren’t afraid of death. Mumia Abu-Jamal certainly fought like hell to avoid it, never mind Tookie Williams in California and a host of convicted murderers in Illinois. The idiots that were burning down LA after the acquital of the officers in the Rodney King incident also seemed to retreat when confronted with lethal force, whether wielded by officers or citizens.
Obama has taken the side of the offenders here, whether you like it or not. Lethal force wielded on the side of justice deters lethal aggression against the innocent.
Gang members don’t fear death, which is why they absolutely flourish in areas of the country that have banned guns.
The death penalty is not a deterrent, which means that ghosts must be committing crimes after they have been executed.
Welcome to Obama logic. It makes no sense, but that’s the “reality based” world these people inhabit.
Don’t forget, “God Damn America” - Obama approves this message.
I would like to see what the content of bill was that Obama opposed. Maybe, like many Americans, he is opposed to the death penalty. I will see if I can do some research and get back to you guys. Politicians have a habit of pointing out one anothers
objection to a certain part of a bill. What they don’t reveal is language, or some other add on, which makes it objectionable. Remember that George has vetoed many bills because of pork barrel projects that were hidden in them.
Maybe, like many Americans, he is opposed to the death penalty.
Not according to his website. But as Obamatrons are wont to say, “why would a citizen care”.
Why indeed, Obama. Why do you care? Your supporters don’t.
Actually, while suburbia may have some gangs, I’d suggest that gangbangers have more to fear from armed suburbanites who actually know how to fire a pistol accurately, and will do so in defense of their homes, family, and selves.
OK, how about some statistics or examples. A cursory Google search turns up a handful of examples across the country. Not exactly a powerful argument here.
Considering armed robbery and theft are the two largest crimes committed across the country I would say that its a stretch at best.
Sorry, I don’t buy the idea that gangbangers aren’t afraid of death. Mumia Abu-Jamal certainly fought like hell to avoid it, never mind Tookie Williams in California and a host of convicted murderers in Illinois
And how many people has Tookie killed in the last 9 years? That was a terrible example. In fact, you proved my point, not yours.
The idiots that were burning down LA after the acquital of the officers in the Rodney King incident also seemed to retreat when confronted with lethal force, whether wielded by officers or citizens.
So every black person who rioted was a gang member? What is up?
Obama has taken the side of the offenders here, whether you like it or not. Lethal force wielded on the side of justice deters lethal aggression against the innocent.
Life sentence prevents the equal amount of death in civilian life. The ad is a joke.
Gang members don’t fear death, which is why they absolutely flourish in areas of the country that have banned guns.
Lets go state by state. You start.
The death penalty is not a deterrent, which means that ghosts must be committing crimes after they have been executed.
Ok, how many deaths is Tookie Williams committing? How do you kill a civilian when you are in prison? Those are two painful realities that you are denying. Why?
Welcome to Obama logic. It makes no sense, but that’s the “reality based” world these people inhabit.
It makes no sense if you are a close minded, black and white sort of person who doesn’t bother to think.
Hannitized, you’re unaware of the fact that you don’t find too many Crips, Bloods, Vice Lords and such out in the suburbs? You’re unaware of the fact that the murder rate in Washington, DC is 28/100k each year, and right across the Potomac in Alexandria, VA, it’s about 2/100k?
Please; if gangbangers don’t fear death, why do they appeal their death sentences when they’re convicted of murder 1? Why do they stay in areas like DC where they know the law-abiding won’t be shooting back?
We ran an experiment with life in prison as the worst punishment; the murder rate tripled. When we reinstated the death penalty, it went back to nearly its former rate.
Moreover, recent studies do find that the imposition of the death penalty does deter crime. Here you go:

The long and short of it is that Senator Obama stands squarely against the right of the people to live in peace, as he’s making all the wrong stands in this regard.
So, let me get this straight. It is bad to point out what a candidate for President has actually done during their tenure in previous elected positions?
That is the sum total of everything you have posted in this thread, sanni.
