Obama’s Stance On “Bitter” Gun Owners Isn’t Playing Well In Pennsylvania

Which is exactly why Obama never intended Pennsylvanians to hear what he was telling rich San Francisco liberals.

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania sportsmen aren’t “bitter” about their guns and balk at what they call Sen. Barack Obama’s double-talk in courting their support.

In a state that boasts one of the country’s highest per capita rates of membership in the National Rifle Association (NRA), Mr. Obama’s stance that Second Amendment gun rights are compatible with new tough gun laws falls flat.

And it didn’t help when he said the state’s “bitter” small-town voters hurt by the economy were not supporting him because they “cling” to religion, guns and anti-immigrant views.

“It just tells me he is anti-gun,” said Debbie Schultz, owner of Schultz’s Sportsmens Stop in Apollo, Pa., about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

“We don’t need more gun laws and we don’t need tougher gun laws, the ones we’ve got are pretty stringent,” said Mrs. Schultz, 53, who has been selling sporting and target firearms for 39 years. “You can’t keep a thug from getting a gun [unless] you try to take all the guns from every gun owner and that will never happen in the United States.”

Rocco S. Ali, president of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, said the two viewpoints embraced by Mr. Obama are incompatible.

“He’s tried to satisfy both sides [but] they don’t go together,” said Mr. Ali, whose organization represents about 95,000 hunters and outdoorsmen in more than 350 clubs.

Of course, who is the alternative to Obama?  Hillary “Assault Weapons Ban” Clinton?

You’d think the Democrats would learn sooner or later that the quickest way to get marginalized in a national election is to be anti-gun.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m willing to bet there are far more firearm owners than passionate supporters of anti-gun laws.

When did Obama say people were bitter “about” their guns??  I completely missed that one.  Care to provide a quote?

Didn’t think so.  Because he didn’t say it.

You are reduced to quoting Obama on things he never said.

This leads me to suggest a song for your next Friday Night hit…

It’s there in the story. Didn’t you follow the link? The fact that someone asserted it in a story carries about as much weight as what you and your brother twit were saying about “Newtie” with every bit as much evidence. Why hold this story to a higher standard?

Nit picking at the language of this story will not change the feelings of rural Pennsylvanians or their opinion of

“Bitter" Barack, the Political Hack!

Oh pooh.  Are you still bitter about Newties remarks??

The difference of course Proof, is a nuanced one.  One that would require a bit of concentration.  I recommend you go back and re-read the story on Newt.  Then tell me if the statement in question was in quotes or not.  Then tell me what a quote implies.  Then look above and see that Obama was not “quoted”.

Sorry, but you are wrong on both counts.  This story is lame and I appreciate your admission of that.

This does not change the fact that Obama basically screwed himself in the general election with his better statements.

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.

No, I’m still surprised at the molehill the deranged lefties here are trying to make out of that anthill!

Nice crowd.

I dont see how making better statements could hurt him.  Hell, I don’t see how the bitter statements hurt him either.  He still has bigger numbers than McCain.

Newties has made similar statements before, not just that one.  Its the way he thinks.  Were just not letting him lie to us.

sanni? Obamoid said it, he meant it, and you can not prove he didn’t. And he was correct! You, and all other racebaitingpovertypimp Democrats are bitter, mentally unbalanced and clingy. Suck on that like a big, juicy lemon.

I spent most of the day with a large and varied group of Pennsyltuckians yesterday. No few of them Democrats. And they are not going to vote for Obamoid. And they ain’t happy about Billary, either. They know she is a major problem ideologically, and that she has screwed up everything she has ever touched. Republicans think McC is a bad candidate, look at what the Dims have to choose from.

I would be very depressed with my choices for president if I was a Democrat who was not a deranged leftists (surely there must be a few left).  Ultimately the ‘moderate’ Dem is at fault for letting the leftist loonies take over their party.

Apostrophobics don’t think at all! (But they certainly do lie!)

Thanks for another pointless rant, Hannie!

It is curious, although it was not identified as such at the time, but Newt Derangement Syndrome predates BSD by years.
There could be a genetic component in it.

You mean it isn’t hurting him except for showing pro 2nd amendment people that he is against gun rights and thinks that people only go to church because they are bitter.  This will really hurt him in the general election in the Midwest and the South.

Also, before all of these Obama controversies came to light, Obama was way ahead of McCain.  realclearpolitics latest poles show Obama ahead of McCain by 0.7 percentage points.

Well, thats a fabrication of your imagination by confusing the word “AND” with “BECAUSE”.

Obama never said they got to church because they are bitter.  He said they will vote on those issues that are important to them, because they are bitter about their economic situation and don’t feel voting on economic issues can help them, so they cling to the issues where they can make a difference, by voting on them.

There is plenty of time to November and just because people believe distortions doesn’t mean that clarifications cant turn that around.

That is why Rob is on a furious mission to distort facts into a way that gives him a warm feeling in his tummy.

No, he said

“they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

I don’t see the word “and” or “because” in there!  (We won’t go into the transparent lies or slurs in his statement for the moment.)
He said they are bitter, they cling to...religion...as a way to explain their frustrations. Obama is saying that the reason these bitter folks are “clinging” to guns and religion is out of frustration.  It may come as a big surprise to Obama, the liberal elite in SF, (and Hannitized) but citizens of the US have often taken up with both their First and Second Amendment rights for reasons of deep seated principle that have nothing at all to do with frustration!
The fact that Obama can’t figure out the simplest of motivation for these folks, and chooses instead to disparage them, should disqualify him from attempting to uphold the entire Constitution for the entire population of the U.S. of A.
