Obama’s Speech

Charles Krauthammer on just a portion of what was wrong with Obama’s speech.
While many in the MSM are gushing over “Professor” Obama, no one seems to have done any digging into how many of his “facts” Obama got wrong in his speech. He seems to credit, for example, the invention of the magnetic compass to Islam, rather than China, whom most acknowledge as the source. His exact words:

It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed.

Ah! They developed them! Another Kodak moment in weasel words!

Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world.

That choice being Saddam Hussein’s when he invaded Kuwait and then failed to live by the terms of the cease fire. Funny Barack didn’t mention that!

And finally, just as America can never tolerate violence by extremists, we must never alter our principles. 9/11 was an enormous trauma to our country. The fear and anger that it provoked was understandable, but in some cases, it led us to act contrary to our ideals. We are taking concrete actions to change course. I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States, and I have ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed by early next year.

America didn’t act contrary to its ideals. A few individuals broke the law and were punished. America is just fine, thank you very much! Then the Weasel-In-Chief says “I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States”, as if we were torturing people before. The US waterboarded more soldiers, sailors and Marines than they did prisoners (3), yet this abomination of a President gives the impression the the US is a much viler place than it ever was.

Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.

which has been conspicuous in its absence in the last few decades!*

Now let me be clear: issues of women’s equality are by no means simply an issue for Islam. In Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia, we have seen Muslim-majority countries elect a woman to lead. Meanwhile, the struggle for women’s equality continues in many aspects of American life, and in countries around the world.

Yeah. Right.
One has to wonder if there was a point to his false moral equivalence on women’s rights?
A few are trying to compare this to Reagan’s “Tear Down This Wall” speech. I guess Obama’s version goes: “Tear Down My Country”!

    WHAT’S HAPPENING TO REASON:

So, we have a moron who makes baseless claims that he pulled out of his ass, in response to Hannity hitting Obama on his nonsense.

Moreover, the claim, just isn’t true. Muslims are .8% of the population. Or 2.4 million people. By even the most generous estimate of 8 million, this is still absurd. We’d be one of the TINIEST Muslim nations.

Such an imbecilic statement would get a Republican mocked forever. Indeed, Republicans have been mocked for saying we’re a Christian nation…even though that’s far more true.

We were stationed at Incirlik AB Turkey for 2 years. Saudia Arabia is NO Turkey. Outside of Afghanistan, Saudia Arabia is, or is up there, one of the most repressive cultures for women in the entire world. Why on earth would you not specifically point that out?

While Egypt is Disneyland compared to Saudia Arabia, they still do honor killings. Why not at least touch on that?

Turkey has women in positions of power, because they are a SECULAR GOVERNMENT. The Turkish govt, at least when we were there from 93-95, went out of their way to keep it secular, as it is the only way to keep it a democracy. Even in the less modern parts of the country, by and large women have at least some amount of freedom when you compare it to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc.

To compare Turkey in any way to Saudi Arabia in the struggle for women’s rights in Islam is absurd. They are not even in the same category. I had total and absolute freedom in Turkey, and my maid was the only Turkish women I had a friendship with that wore a Hijab, and it was choice on both sides, not forced by the government. I never worried about the “morals” police coming after me.

He should have spoke more about human/women’s rights and should have used Ataturk as an example of the right way to balance it.

Turkey isn’t perfect, but, when it comes to the way that women, by and large(there are always backwards places in every country)can live there, they are a very good example for success

I just don’t get it. He has a women as the secretary of State. Why not bring that up, why not mention what is going on to women every day in some of these countries? The right to live, the right to not be beaten by your husband, those are HUMAN rights, and as the leader of the “free” world, he has an obligation to bring that to light, not waffle and ho humm around it.

This has been going on for years, but I guess I thought this is one area that might change, since he is supported by so many feminist groups, but then I have noticed they pretty much do not care about women’s rights in Islam. They have never really spoken up about it like they do with the sometimes childish things they “demand” here in the States

  • Bat One

    Swish,

Citing David Horowitz’ column serves to make a point, though certainly not the one you think. What you’ve demonstrated instead is that it is conservatives who abide by the ideals of diversity, inclusiveness, and tolerance… not the liberal hypocrites who gloat and primp over the words while living like intolerant, ideological Nazis.

Notice too, that while Charles Krauthammer and David Horowitz were critiquing the same Obama speech, both gentlemen took differing approaches in their criticism.

Those of us on/in the Right are not nearly as dogmatic and hide-bound as you leftie radicals would portray us. And as usual, when one of you makes such an accusation, it really means that those on the Left are doing exactly that which they accuse. Dissent and differing opinions among those of us on/in the Right is a validation of our regard for individual freedom. Something which those of you on the “progressive” Left can never claim.

  • Hannitized

I ask him for a single particular that made the speech “brilliant” and all he can come up with is “One of your guys thought it was, too!”.

Pathetic, little Goebbelette! Can’t you think for yourself?

I asked the poseur rifleman to find two errors in remarks I made about rifles and scopes and he refused to answer, because he knew it would reveal him as the fraud he is.

Now here he is, demanding that others prove his false claims false.

A “brilliant” speech where he got all his facts wrong?

To claim every thing Obama said was factually incorrect is….incorrect and a lie.

But what do you expect from Poofie? Certainly not intelligent debate.

Every single thing Barri credited Islam with creating existed prior to Islam’s creation. Islam has in fact destroyed technological advancements, killed any who attempted to make new technological/scientific advancements, and has kept the people trapped in Islam living in abject poverty, illiteracy, and starvation.

And Barri thinks that America needs to embrace all that.

    A fellow stem approves:

Fellow conservatives, admit it: Obama gave a great speech

Conservatives will make a great mistake if they fail to see this speech for what it was, and treat it as another round in the partisan food fight. It was not an appeasement of our enemies. It was a forthright statement by an American leader in a Muslim capital explaining why America is in fact the global leader in those battles that matter most to people everywhere: freedom, equality, and peace. As conservatives we have many quarrels with the Obama administration — and we should have. But this speech is not one of them.

    Bummer, huh?

Obama is no Christian… There is something very sinister and dark in Obama’s soul. If you are prone to prayer I would suggest working at that ASAP.

  • Bill Mitchell

Let me sum up every one of Obama’s Foreign Relations Speeches to this point:

“It’s all our fault. We will do everything for you and you don’t have to do a damned thing for us.”

And then the MSM fawns over how the rest of the world just loves this? They get everything and have to give nothing? Of COURSE they love it. I bet if we now send them 800 trillion in aid with no strings attached, they will REALLY REALLY think we are great.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

brilliant speech. He can certainly “talk the talk”.

The leftie echo chamber is on full volume. Again “imagine”: what in particular was “brilliant” about a speech where he got so many of his facts wrong?
Or where he made moral equivalence between women’s rights in America and the Arab world?

Here’s another conservative to crib from Dino: He likes Obama’s speech insofar as Obama is recycling Bush’s foreign policy! (Can you say “brilliant”?) Heh.

One benefit of the Obama Presidency is that it is validating much of George W. Bush’s security agenda and foreign policy merely by dint of autobiographical rebranding. That was clear enough yesterday in Cairo, where President Obama advertised “a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world.” But what he mostly offered were artfully repackaged versions of themes President Bush sounded with his freedom agenda. We mean that as a compliment, albeit with a couple of large caveats.

    Are Obama Coins a Rip-Off?

]The sellers of Obama coins play up the historic and emotional aspects of Obama’s success, often marketing these coins as rare, limited edition collectibles that could increase in value over time. When you mix emotions and investment decisions, your pocketbook is nearly always a loser.

If you remove coins and substitute the word presidency and election the result still works.

Amazing how Christians can feel such inane guilt over their own religion’s history of violence yet ignore that Islam was spread so far and wide by “holy war” and forced conversions in centuries past. Without that, mere proselytizing would not have brought it so far without a more radical construction working on the usual “oppressed masses” which then would have led to spreading through subversion and revolution like communism.

If Christianity and Judaism’s history of violence in old times is so bad, the Islam’s must be equally bad. The double standard of excoriating one’s own while holding others to no standard at all is galling to be sure, but then it is a facet of their bigotry. They believe Christianity to be largely white people and they believe white people can be held to high standards but they do not believe others can be.

In looking down on Muslims with their patronizing dismissal they are only feeding Islamic Supremacism and making life for balanced moderates to calm the fires, thus being as usual, counterproductive.

Liberals have a certain magic for that screwing up in reverse thing.
