Obama’s “Our Troops Don’t Have Guns” Story Is Bogus

What’s funny is that the media is reporting it as though it isn’t bogus even as they bring up facts which prove it is bogus.

Obama claims that in Afghanistan some of our troops are so ill-equipped that they’re forced to target the enemy’s weapons in order to resupply themselves.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama says the war in Iraq, which he opposes, has pulled troops away from Afghanistan and left soldiers there without proper equipment.

He underscored his point in the Democratic debate Thursday by telling a story about a rifle platoon in Afghanistan that allegedly didn’t have enough soldiers or weapons to do its job, leaving the platoon to scrounge for weapons from the Taliban.

His source was an anonymous Army captain, whom his campaign refused to identify Friday.

The problem is that the Army captain Obama attributes this story to says that he and his fellow troops did target Taliban weapons caches, but didn’t target them for resupply purposes.

Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor declined to release the name of the captain, citing the soldier’s privacy, and pointed to an ABC News account as verification of the story. Obama learned about the captain’s allegation from a staffer who had spoken with the captain, according to Vietor.

ABC News said it talked to the unidentified captain, whose account of shortages in Afghanistan was for the most part accurately summarized by Obama, although not verified.

The captain said, however, that the unit did not go after the Taliban for the purpose of getting their weapons, but sometimes used those weapons when some were captured.

Don’t you just love how they’re reporting that Obama “accurately” summarized this Army captain’s claims even though the most damning allegation Obama made turns out to be total crap per the Army captain himself?

Obama says our troops are having to steal arms from the enemy to keep fighting.  The source Obama uses for that statement says otherwise.  Thus, Obama is a big fat liar.

But the media is too busy trying to coronate him as the Democrat nominee to call him out on it.

I’ve read that special forces will use the enemies weapons as a method to deceive them.

This sounds like that’s what’s going on, and the person who pretends to the presidency has so little knowledge he got the gist story wrong.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

The MSM and the NYTimes have decided that the U.S. must have a Dem in the white House----it is our job as voters to validate that decision.  Don’t even think about thinking for yourself.

It’s a pathetic example of our state of affairs… [shaking head]

Who said

“Our Troops Don’t Have Guns”

Why you did, not Obie 1

What make the facts of the Capt’s report; short handed , short of Ammo short of parts, short of vehicles, incorrect?

the unit did not go after the Taliban for the purpose of getting their weapons, but sometimes used those weapons when some were captured.

?

Also in Afghanistan they had issues getting parts for their MK-19s and their 50-cals. Getting parts or ammunition for their standard rifles was not a problem.

“It was very difficult to get any parts in theater,” he says, “because parts are prioritized to the theater where they were needed most—so they were going to Iraq not Afghanistan.”

“The purpose of going after the Taliban was not to get their weapons,” he said, but on occasion they used Taliban weapons. Sometimes AK-47s, and they also mounted a Soviet-model DShK (or “Dishka") on one of their humvees instead of their 50 cal.

It occurs to me, that we could go a long way towards energy independence if we could just attach armatures and windings to WOOF and Hannitized

So the account of shortages was accurately summarised although not verified...that’s quite the takedown. wink

Obama calling in his disgust of the lack of military preparadness is like Ted Kennedy taking a shot at Alcoholics Annoynomous.

Please, just stay away from things you don’t understand.

Rachel Lucas points to a very illuminating post on this over at The Corner. One point:

“There’s also the obvious question of, if they’re so short of U.S. ammunition, how are they managing to capture Taliban ammunition.”

Mike,

I didn’t realize that Dan Rather was now on the ABC payroll!

I’ve been asking questions of a number of people who served in Afghanistan. And guess what? They did use captured weapons, for the express purpose of confusing enemy forces.

As for BhO being unfamiliar with the vagaries of the Infinite GravyTrain with Biscuit Wheels, duh! Of course he is, having never had the personal courage or mental ability to serve in any branch of the US military he has no idea what the fuck he is talking about.

Uncle Sugar routinely ships troops thousands of pieces of supply that they A. don’t need, B. don’t want, and C. can’t use.  And attempting to blame W for the cumbersome and illogical workings of the DeptDefense supply system is hilarious.
