Obama’s Office Of The President-Elect Announces Plans For The Obama Youth

No joke.  According to Obama’s ridiculous faux-branch of government he wants to establish a “youth corps” and mandate participation in it.

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.

Nothing says “freedom” and “liberty” like mandated community service.

Isn’t community service the sort of thing judges sentence drunk drivers and vandals to?  Not that I have anything against volunteerism or charity work, but those things should be choices made by free people.  Not something demanded by power-drunk politicians.

Update: Interesting angle:

...if President Obama pushes the forced volunteerism angle too hard, guess what’s likely to happen? College-age kids enticed to join AmeriCorps, or ObamaCorps, or WhateverCorps will be kids not joining the U.S. Armed Forces.

ROTC still won’t be allowed on college campuses, but I’m sure ObamaCorps will be heavily represented.

Good point.

That sounds an awful lot like some of that crazy libertarian talk to me. wink

...and already the Government is going to dictate how you live your life.  (or your kids)  People wonder why we called The One socialist.

how would this differ from anything else that is mandated in public schools and colleges.

my undergraduate degree is in social science and it was mandated that i take a science class (took biology which doesn’t really fit the social sciences).

my graduated degree is public administration and i had to take not 1 but 2 graduate level stats classes. my wife only had to have one for her phd.

Nothing says “freedom” and “liberty” like mandated community service.

so you must be against mandating anything in schools, right?

crshedd on November 7, 2008 at 01:43 pm

I too have nothing against volunteerism.  Heck I am a volunteer firefighter on the Jamestown Rural Fire Dept.  I sure as heck would object to being required to do it though.  I do it because I love it, not because the government told me to.

Vaguely reminiscent in history, wasn’t there a “****** Youth” formed in the 1930’s in some European Country?

How long will it be before these brain-washed adolescents will start ratting out their parents, burning books, revolting against free speech, and become automatons of the the “Fearless Leader and Great Messiah” and an unerring Central Government?

They are already exhibiting signs of nuttyism and being in the first stages of repeating history.

Their hatred of anyone who opposes them has already been spoken to by themselves and leaders.

eneils Bailey on November 7, 2008 at 01:45 pm

crshedd - you missed the entire point.  A) You are volunteerism signing up for that undergrad program.  Have a problem with it, go somewhere else and give that place your money.  B) This mandated community service isn’t part of an education program

Like Olorinpc said, you are paying for the college and it’s courses.  If you don’t like what they want you to take, you can go somewhere else.  The forced service would be government mandated and as such, you couldn’t just go to another school to avoid it.  At least not in middle and high school.  You could always attend college in a foreign country, which would be a lot like draft dodging.  Of course, the forced community service would be a lot like a forced military service so draw your own conclusions there.

Despite the similarities, I would think we could all discuss this without comparing Obama to Hitler.  His social policies may be similar, but I don’t see any hints of the genocide that Hitler is most known for.  Comparing the two usually draws people to think that you think that Obama is going to start offing entire races of people and that makes you look stupid.

Another fun thing about this; by mandating involuntary servitude, Barack Obama would have the interesting distinction of not only being the first black president, but being a black man evidently interested in overturning the 13th Amendment.  (the one that ended slavery)

You just can’t make this stuff up!  And someone teach the man some Latin, or at least some English, so he learns that “mandatory” and “voluntary” are antonymns.

Basically, you can opt out of the public school system if you want to.  You can home school, or go to private school.  Or, depending on local laws, even pick a different public school.

And frankly, there should be more choice in our public school system anyway.  I think we should subsidize public education, but through vouchers.

I guess Whoopi was right!

Lol!

Bingo.  I personally am very against his policies and against politicians in general who view the constitution as a “fundamentally flawed document.”  So while I too make mental comparisons to the Hilter Youth, I certainly do not compare Obama to Hilter.  Being charismatic and a socialist do not make you into a genocidal nutjub.

olorinpc on November 7, 2008 at 02:32 pm

Nobody said that genocide was imminent, but we should be reminded that one reason there were so many people willing to staff Auschwitz and the gulags was the Hitler Youth and Young Pioneers.

Let’s face facts; the motivation behind the Obama Jugend is not simply to get things done.  It is to transform society from the bottom up—a boot camp, if you will, to generate minds compliant with those in power.  Separate kids from their parents and their churches, and let’s see what we can do.

It can get as ugly as those who are managing the whole affair.  Think of the politician you despise the most running this for a picture.  Now make him infinitely worse—remember, you’ve just trained a worker bee class of people to be compliant to government.

No
It makes those that think that look stupid.
hitler did more than the Holocost.
He organized his “community” & formed a movement that eventually led to the Holocost.
More than 6 months back, I started over-laying obama’s speeches with those of hitler.
THere was an eerie simularity.
With each new idea that is introduced, the simularities get stronger.

The comparison to the Hitler Youth isn’t intended to suggest Obama is a Nazi.  If it makes you more comfortable, the comparison could be made to one of the youth groups ran by, say, Stalin.  Or Castro.  Or Kim Jong-il.

These sort of groups are common among these leaders that perpetuate a cult of personality.

Hey, Donkeydorf,
I did not mention Hitler or genocide, but, interestingly, you made the connection.
That is the reason I excluded his name and made no mention of his name. The youth, per se did not participate in any wrong-doing.

These youth had no idea of what he was doing, or what they were supporting..
Just wrapped up in the emotion and fervor of the moment, as are many American youths these days. This does not make Obama into a Hitler-like character or the youth he influences into genocidal maniacs.
Just the same techniques and strategies are employed to get them to where you want them.
Following an ideologue, based on “The Cult of Personality” is something that should not be forced upon ignorant and immature children. That does not make Obama a Hitler in disguise, just a leader who knows the importance of influencing and misleading the youth.

eneils Bailey on November 7, 2008 at 03:16 pm

Here’s a bit from an informative site on the issue of the youth:
“...Previously the HJ had been devoted to teaching youth NAZI ideology through hiking trips and other youth activities and to support party activities. After the NAZI takeover the HJ expanded to over 3.5 million members. Soon it was made more militaristic. Members marched in military formations. At first there was no weapons training, but a variety of filed operations such as map reading and working woth communications gear. Eventually weapons training was added to the program. The HJ was used to feed boys into the German military after a year of labor service…”
http://histclo.com/youth/youth/org/nat/hitler/hitlerb.htm
. .
Read the info & compare it with that which you see today.
Pay close attention to the beginnings of the HJ.

Wow!!

The text of the website has changed in a matter of hours. From this: “Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.”

To this: “Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.

He’s just making up new stuff by the minute here.
