"blackwater"bob,

So which of those Pashtun men pictured was a representative of Iran and/or the Ayatollah Khomeni?

Compared to Reagan Obama is a light weight and I predict is going to get creamed in the General Election. This going to be the end of Obama candidacy.

When Obama is able to just give empty speeches he is going to be exposed as a light weight. When Obama gets creamed in the south and fly over country because that country is full of people that cling to their guns and religion we will again be talking about the candidate that offered nothing.

Note the question mark, Brad.

What you fail to realize, talking with them is not the same thing as giving in to them.

Remember “trust but verify.”

If it is possible to come to an agreement where Iran agrees to stop building nukes and allows inspectors to monitor their reactors, that would be a good thing, right?  It would be better than killing scores of innocents by bombing, right?

However, that cannot happen unless their are open lines of communication.

Hawk on May 21, 2008 at 11:42 am

Hawk: There is a big difference that cannot be surmounted when taking about Iran. Iamabadhandjob has threatened to wipe out Israel, kill all Jews and destroy the Great Satan - America that HE might usher in the coming of the Mahdi (Islamic Savior), he deals out of a religious fervor that insists no Muslim has any need to honor their word or keep any peace treaty struck with any Infidel or Infidel nation. He has denied the holocaust! He arms terrorists all over the world, including those killing our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, please tell us how you negotiate anything with a madman like this? You can engage in talks, elevate this insane religious nut to the status of a world leader, but he sees himself as anointed by Allah to bring about the end of the world, and he can never be trusted.

Mahdi: According to Twelver Shi’as Imam Hujjat al-the Mahdī (المهدى) (or Hujjat ibn Hasan ibn Ali) is the twelfth Imam and the Mahdi, the ultimate savior of humankind.

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

And what makes you think this is possible? The fact that in the dozens o negotiations with him so, he has told us all to take a collective long walk off a short pier? That when he talked at the UN he claimed everyone was duped by a halo around his head? That his program ALREADY violated UN charter that they are subject to? That he says he wants nukes to wipe out Israel? What is it that makes you think such a solution is possible?

This is the problem with leftists. They keep demanding that we try the thing we just tried that failed miserably. The “give peace a chance” crowd, keep saying it like it’s a new idea, like we haven’t tried it before. “Peace” with Iraq for over a decade didn’t work. And even GWB’s “rush” to war lasted over a year with multiple opportunities for Iraq to avert it. To where even the UN said he wasn’t complying.

Now the same thing is happening in Iran/ “Give peace a chance!” We’ve been trying, with spectacular failure after spectacular failure. Yet the leftists scream for more!

Obama/Biden is not change. It’s more of the same.

If it is possible to come to an agreement where Iran agrees to stop building nukes and allows inspectors to monitor their reactors, that would be a good thing, right?

And why would any rational individual conclude that the Iranians would agree to stop nuclear weapons development and agree to a regime of on-site inspection?  As I recall, an agreement on exactly those two point didn’t stop the North Koreans from developing nuclear weapons, did it?

Meanwhile, from AP yesterday:

VIENNA, Austria (AP) — Diplomats say that a new attempt by the U.N. nuclear watchdog to probe allegations that Iran tried to make nuclear arms has failed.

The failure will be detailed in a report due soon from Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

He was hopeful a month ago, when announcing a new attempt to investigate allegations that Iran has tried to make atomic arms.

But the diplomats told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Iran denies such activities.

Now, just out of curiosity, exactly how many high-speed centrifuges are the Iranians currently operating?

You make the mistake of believing that all Iranians are like Ahmadinejad.  They’re not.  Iran has one of the youngest most pro-west demographics in the region.  If we engage them and stop threatening them, it is possible they may vote him out.  Even if they don’t, he is not the Supreme Ruler of Iran.

I don’t know if there is a way to get them to allow us to have inspectors in their nuclear facility.  I do know it is impossible if we don’t talk to them.  What do we gain by isolating them?  Push them closer to China and Russia?  Is that what you want?

The ones who actually run the place are!

I don’t know if there is a way to get them to allow us to have inspectors in their nuclear facility.  I do know it is impossible if we don’t talk to them.

Certainly you don’t know!  The point is we have been talking to them.  For years.  Through the IAEA, through the UN, through the EU, the Russians, the Chinese, and directly as well.  Had you been paying attention, you’d know this.

Now, please explain why the situation with the Iranians would be any different than that with the North Koreans and the fatally flawed 1994 Agreed Framework… the agreement that allowed UN inspectors on site that worked out so well?

I keep hearing that the Iranians are pro-West, but where is the evidence? The last time they had a pro-Western ruler, they ousted him for the virulently anti-West Kholmeni. The pro-westerners must all live underground...or don’t vote...or something.

I don’t know if there is a way to get them to allow us to have inspectors in their nuclear facility.  I do know it is impossible if we don’t talk to them.  What do we gain by isolating them?  Push them closer to China and Russia?  Is that what you want?

The last refuge of the ignorant leftist is the appeal to emotion/fear. We’ve been talking to them for years, as Bat One pointed out. We STOPPED talking to them for the same reason we stopped with Iraq. It wasn’t going anywhere.

Kenny by the “pro-Western ruler” you must mean Reza Pahlevi who was elevated to power by US and British interests after The CIA assasinated their democraticaly elected president.
The almighty shah that ruled with brutality and had the blessings of Washington and every Iranian and their mother knew it and resented the USA.

The almighty shah that ruled with brutality and had the blessings of Washington and every Iranian and their mother knew it and resented the USA.

The almighty Shah was a hell of a lot better than Kholmeni. He was a generous ruler next to them. Carter’s demands on Shah to release jihadi prisoners made things worse.

I believe it was a coup, during which Carter refused to support the Shah, not a popular revolt.  Just more leftie revisionism.  They love to describe political and military takeovers as “a people’s revolution”.

Exactly, which is why real diplomacy with your enemies comes after you defeat them militarily.  Brilliant!

You are such a tool to advocate throwing away soldiers lives without even trying to negotiate.

I love how rbb throws up pointless pictures that have nothing to do with the original post.

You are such a tool to advocate throwing away soldiers lives without even trying to negotiate.

You mean as opposed of being a complete tool of the left and believing that we can talk a Holocaust denier to make peace with Israel? The only thing people like that understand is brute military force!!!

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.

You are such a tool to advocate throwing away soldiers lives without even trying to negotiate.

And you want to throw away the lives of countless civilians whose lives are endangered by your lickspittle desire for appeasment.

Dougee,

Some people keep pets, some tend a garden.  RBB keeps pictures.  It keeps him busy, keeps him off the streets, and keeps him distracted enough so he doesn’t have to face the fact that the “huge” list of “Big Dog” Clinton’s anti- Islamist terrorism and nuclear non-proliferation accomplishments that he bragged of 4 or 5 months ago is a mere myth.

Clinton now has a bundle of money… but no stage to prance about and no more adoring audiences either.  Which just about matches his accomplishments from 8 years in office.

Come to think of it, if it wasn’t for Ross Perot Hillary would still be stuck in Little Rock.

Unlike the second, the first one had an admirable record of executive competence and managerial accomplishment.  He also had balls!

A bit quirky for some people’s tastes… odd voice and all.  But unlike a certain contemporary Democrat office holder, Mr. Perot actually managed to get his (EDS) people out of Islamist Iran rather than waiting for Mr. Reagan to do it for him.

Too bad for Bush Jr. that Nader ran for office, otherwise he wouldn’t have to worry about being the worst leader since Coligula.

Eunichized the beardless boy idiot offers:

It’s hard work making “blackwater"boob look well read, but Eunichized doesn’t even have to stoop to get under that bar.
