Obama’s Health Care Plan Will Have You Pay Less For Health Care By Paying More In Taxes
And more in taxes than you’re likely paying in health care costs now, because when the government runs things you that’s an additional expense for them to administer it.
NEW YORK (Fortune) — America is finally getting a detailed look at the sweeping, long-awaited health-care reform platform championed by President Obama. This week the Democrats have unveiled their two primary proposals — a 700-plus page bill in the Senate and the outline of the forthcoming version in the House that presents essentially the same blueprint for change.
The crucial question about Obama’s agenda has always been whether it really will slow the disastrous rise in health-care spending, or actually increase it while hiding the real costs of the new system. On analyzing the bills, the conclusion is inescapable: Obama promises Americans what appears to be a bargain by heavily subsidizing their premiums. But the only way to pay for what’s really outrageously expensive coverage will be huge tax increases, especially on the same middle class that’s being wooed as the chief beneficiary of reform.
So how big a tax hike will we need to pay for Obama to make our health care less expensive? Per legislation being drafted by Democrats in the House right now some $600 billion in new taxes. Keep in mind that the Bush tax cuts the liberals were complaining about as being excessive – the tax cuts they say caused deficits even though federal tax receipts went up after they were implemented – only amounted to about $113 billion/year.
Oh, and by the way, the House Democrats are saying that nationalized health care will cost much more than the $634 billion Obama is predicting.
June 12 (Bloomberg) — Health-care overhaul legislation being drafted by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel said.
Democrats will work on the bill’s details next week as they struggle through “what kind of heartburn” it will cause to agree on how to pay for revamping the health-care system, Rangel, a New York Democrat, said today. He also said the measure’s cost will reach beyond the $634 billion President Barack Obama proposed in his budget request to Congress as a down payment for the policy changes.
So huge tax increases to pay for government being in charge of your health care so that they can make it more efficient and cheaper by rationing your access to it.
Sound like a bargain, America?
