Obamacare is Dead!

On the eve of the State of the Union Address, congressional Democrats, led by Senator Harry Reid and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, let it be known that Obama’s signature legislation, the so-called Health Care Reform bill, is no longer under serious consideration. From tomorrow’s NYT:

With no clear path forward on major health care legislation, Democratic leaders in Congress effectively slammed the brakes on President Obama’s top domestic priority on Tuesday, saying they no longer felt pressure to move quickly on a health bill after eight months of setting deadlines and missing them.
The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, deflected questions about health care. “We’re not on health care now,” Mr. Reid said. “We’ve talked a lot about it in the past.”
Mr. Reid said he and the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, were working to map out a way to complete a health care overhaul in coming months.
“There are a number of options being discussed,” he said, emphasizing “procedural aspects” of the issue.
At the same time, two centrist Democrats who are up for re-election this year, Senators Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Evan Bayh of Indiana, said they would resist efforts to muscle through a health care bill using a parliamentary tactic called budget reconciliation, which seemed to be the easiest way to advance the measure. The White House had said in recent days that it would support that approach.
Some Democrats said they did not expect any action on health care legislation until late February at the earliest.
But the Democrats stand to lose momentum, and every day closer to the November election could reduce their chances of passing a far-reaching bill.
The gear shifting by Democrats underscored how the health care effort had been derailed by the Republican victory in the Massachusetts special election for the Senate last week, which effectively denied Democrats the 60th vote they need to overcome a Republican filibuster in the Senate.
Originally, Mr. Reid wanted to finish a bill early last August. The lawmakers’ comments also served to lower expectations for the president’s State of the Union address on Wednesday.
“I would be surprised if he says specifically exactly how he hopes to get health care done,” said the House majority leader, Representative Steny H. Hoyer, Democrat of Maryland.

Obama may be the president, but as noted before, he seems to have little if any real control or influence among Democrats on Capitol Hill.
R.I.P.

“But one thing that still annoys me is that any of us ever had to concern ourselves with it to begin with.”

Progressives count on the public’s ignorance and apathy. If we as a citizenry are not concerning ourselves with keeping on top of what our elected representatives (at every level of government) are doing, there is alwasy going to be some politician who will take advantage of our disengagement.

It is our patriotic duty to keep them honest!! Thus the success of the Tea Party.

I read this article from Dick Morris and I’m of the mind don’t believe anything a democrat tells you since they love to say one thing and do the totally opposite. This entire last year is a blanket statement to that fact.

Healthcare has been declared a corpse oft enough already (including by me), and yet it has shambled on… It makes Max Brooks’ WWZ seem positively prophetic.

“Obamacare is Dead!” No, it is not. They have all said they will do it anyway, no matter what the citizens of America want or don’t want.

When a guy who drives a pickup truck can derail your entire legislative agenda, your Party is in Deep DooDoo!

  • farm4money

i still don’t trust them. DON’T TURN YOUR BACK ON THIS. In the dark of night, on a week end, or some other time when the gaurd is down and no one is looking we can still get this thing rammed up our a$$.

There is no such thing as an honest democrat, watch the speech wed. night and count the number of times the top democrat in the world has and is lying to you.

I am very happy that it’s dead. But one thing that still annoys me is that any of us ever had to concern ourselves with it to begin with. From the very beginning it was a socialist and unconstitutional con. Now let Obama take the fallout from the Liberals because he couldn’t deliver on all those crazy promises of his.

  • hannitized

The right and all SAB members are always making this about Obama, and not just Health Care Reform……and then the right pretends that Obama makes it about him.

    What a bunch of dolts.

  • sayanything-4808

Every time Obama touches something, you want to start playing the Imperial March from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and smoothly slide right into the funeral dirge.

Like I said way back when… Do we really want the same people who send mail accidentally to the wrong side of the country deciding what care we can have medically?

  • MarkSD

I wouldn’t call it dead either. You can’t trust Obama and the Dems.

  • sayanything-8767

It is something wonderful that Obamacare stank like it had been dead for a month when it was barely a week old. If it stinks any worse after it’s dead, it will have to be buried very deep indeed.

  • sayanything-26

I don’t know if Obamacare is dead, but that fat lady is singing awfully loudly.

  • sayanything-164

What bothers me the most about this is the nobody wanted it, yet the Democrats decided that they knew what was best for us and continued moving forward despite screaming from the masses. The only reason they aren’t moving on it right now is because they ran out of tricks (for now).

They still haven’t learned their lesson.

I will keep my calculator handy, you know he is going to lie, keeping track might be a chore.
