Obama: We Need A Permanent Assault Weapons Ban

Barrack Obama, addressing a church congregation, starts off talking about inner-city violence the right way:

CHICAGO — Standing before a church congregation that has witnessed inner-city violence firsthand, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said Sunday that more must be done to end a social ill that is “sickening the soul of this nation.”

Obama told churchgoers at the Vernon Park Church of God on Chicago’s South Side that too many young lives are being claimed by violence and more must be done to combat the problem.

“From South Central L.A. to Newark, New Jersey, there’s an epidemic of violence that’s sickening the soul of this nation,” the Illinois senator told the crowd. “The violence is unacceptable and it’s got to stop.”

Quite right.  Violence in these big cities is a terrible problem, and something should be done about it.  So we’re going to go after the people causing the problems right?  And addressing the social conditions that often drive them to violence?

Guess not.

He said the government needs to permanently reinstate an assault weapons ban and close regulatory loopholes that protect unscrupulous gun dealers.

Right.  Because guns are the problem.  Not, you know, the people using them to kill/hurt other people.

Or the liberal stranglehold on these inner city areas where utopia is always just another teacher pay raise and gun restriction away.

If I’m not mistaken ‘salt weapons are pretty much illegal in Chicago already.  Same with handguns.

So I’m pretty much sure there’s no murders going on there.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

A permanent ban will only prevent the legitimate store owner from selling them. The “bad” guy is going to have or obtain a weapon regardless to whether the “good” guys possess one.
It’s a sure bet the ACLU won’t be fighting for anyones 2nd Amendment Rights.

Just look at Washington DC and tell me if it is working.

Or look at Chicago, Mickey, where the gun bans are almost as bad as DC’s.

And Bronx cheers to Obama for his choice of (pun intended) targets.  Reality is that most students can neither afford to buy, nor can easily conceal, an infantry style semiautomatic rifle.  Hence, five will get you ten that the main weapons recovered in the school killings are inexpensive pistols, especially former police firearms.

So we should disarm the police because their guns are often used in crimes.

In fact I understand that many police are killed by criminals disarming the officersand turning them on them.

How is that handgun ban doing in Chicago? Maybe Obama can answer why Chicago has so many gun deaths from those supposedly banned handguns.

Then again, maybe not. If Obama where to address the deaths, he would have to admit that his position is stupid.

The solution to this “gun” “problem” is to arrest those criminals including criminal illegal aliens who use guns in the commission of crimes, period.  Enforce the present laws.

Nah, arrest Mayor Daley and the aldermen for depriving citizens of their right to keep and bear arms, resulting in a murder rate about five times the national average.

In the hands of a mere civilian, an “assault weapon”, is a weapon of mass destruction, designed only for killing large numbers of people easily. The civilian becomes a frothing at the mouth extremist red neck, (read republican) unable to be trusted in a “civilized society”.

In the hands of the police, it is simply a “semi-automatic rifle”, necessary to keep the peace.

2 weeks ago a cop used an AR-15 to kill six people at a party. Now tell me the police and military are the only people that should have access to these weapons. Obama...God Help us ALL in 2008

Part of the problem is the dishonesty of most gun-banning politicians. True “assault” weapons are already illegal in all 50 states except for Federal license holders, the military and law enforcement.
The percentage of crime committed by licensed assault weapons is virtually zero.
Anti-gun politicians, and their willing accomplices in the MSM, either ignorantly or willfully confuse the issues with lies, half-truths, and a failure to address the underlying problem of crime: namely, the criminals who commit them.
