Obama Wasn’t Exactly A Unifying Figure Back In 1995

More evidence to suggest that Obama isn’t who he says he is today courtesy of a 1995 interview with the Chicago Observer.

He says that individual dreams and achievements aren’t significant, and that we must “unite in collective action” and build “collective organizations.” He also says some nasty things about Republicans and Christians, and suggests we stop calling pregnant teens irresponsible and start calling the society that creates those pregnant teens irresponsible.

Because we can’t just hold individuals responsible for the consequences of their own actions.  We must hold the collective responsible.  Which is fitting given that he wants to make society at large responsible for the health decisions of the individual through socialized medicine.

Oh, and by the way, he marched with racist black national Louis Farakhan.

Personally, I couldn’t care less about Obama’s barbs at Republicans and Christians.  What scares me is that this guy is an out-and-out socialist more concerned with making us all acted-upon victims than empowering us to be free and independent citizens.

Obama is a far scarier kind of progressive than Hillary.

We know so little about him.

And what we do know suggests that he knows less about how the economy works or how forign desports wield power than any of the other candidate who threw their hats in the ring this election cycle.

It’s scary that someone with so little to reccomend themselves for national office could be so close to the most powerful office in the world.

Can you at least be a little bit honest?  There is a difference between the “Christian Right” and Christians.  He criticized the Christian Right, not all Christians.

This was the statement I found most troubling:

Right now we have a society that talks about the irresponsibility of teens getting pregnant, not the irresponsibility of a society that fails to educate them to aspire for more.”

This managed to hit a hot button with me. As someone who’s spent a decade working with kids in low income neighborhoods, Mr. Obama could not be more wrong.

Every day there are teachers, coaches, principals, ministers, and others I didn’t even mention, who are busting their asses trying to reach these kids. And the amount of money spent in that cause has to be in the billions.

But there’s a huge cultural message that a lot of minority girls are getting that tells them to get pregnant, have a baby, and you’ll be part of the community. It takes a lot of determination for girls in some neighborhoods to resist the peer pressure and finish high school.

The fact is that society is trying to educate them to stay in school, and giving them every opportunity to do so. But they are the ones who make the choice to either have babies or not have babies before they are adult and married. Many make irresponsible choices that greatly diminish their chances of getting and staying out of poverty. But a choice was made, and it’s the individual who makes it that is either responsible or irresponsible…not society.

I could think of no message more harmful for young American girls growing up in poverty, then to tell them that they are not at fault when they have children outside of marriage.

What, this was 13 years ago. Even I had socialist leanings 13 years ago!

and suggests we stop calling pregnant teens irresponsible and start calling the society that creates those pregnant teens irresponsible.—Rob talkin’ ‘bout Obama

If society didn’t have a big pregnant teens problem years ago, and it does now, then society has changed. Behavior is determined by genes and environment, and if the genes have more or less stayed the same then it must be the environment?
Sure, everyone is responsible for their own actions, but teenagers are idiots. Every single one of them. I know this from experience, I did some dumb shit back in the day, and so did the idiots around me. Maybe Obama has a point and society does need to help idiots help themselves.

Only in your “divide and conquer” Marxist mind.

Wrong.  Govt schools sexualize children at a very young age, with predictable results.  Socialism is the problem, not “society”.  Your propaganda is responsible.

I thought it was “anarcho-syndicalist mind”? Get your epithets right. You betray the fact that you are stuck in 1965.

School you reckon Robert108? Not quite in touch with reality are you?

They don’t give sex-ed to 10 year old kids, but my neighbor’s kid’s friend had a crush on me last year, she was very “sexualized”, but it all seemed to be stuff she’d picked up from popular culture (and her mother did have a few boyfriends), it was very awkward.

At 10, I just wanted to ride my bike and play with Lego (I guess nothings changed in 20 years). She obviously had impeccable taste though, I’m a handsome bugger.  smile

Me reckons the problem lies squarely with private enterprise!  smile
To sell their shitty trinkets, they have over-sexualized society through all their marketing.

AV: Wrong again.  They start talking about sex organs in primary school.  As far as your attitude toward a 10 year old, that’s just sick.

The only inappropriate thing I can remember is I exploited child labor by letting her and her friend to help sell stuff at the yard sale we had. I don’t think I even paid them, probably means I’m pro-slavery.  smile

"Unite in collective action” = he wants to bring us the policies that gave us Detroit Murder City.

likwidshoe on March 31, 2008 at 03:15 am

The current president was allegedly an alcoholic, draft dodging, cocaine abusing idiot that couldn’t even find oil in Texas.

Compare that to some guy that said, 13 years ago, that teen pregnancy was a societal problem.

And you “conservatives” love war, which is a collective action. You commie bastards!!

Wrong again.  War is a team action, which is different from collectivism.  Besides, only a very small percentage of our population is involved in the military, and an even smaller percentage is directly involved in the war.
BTW, it is a lie to state that conservatives “love” war; we’re just intelligent and courageous enough to know when it needs to be fought.  You leftie cowards fight for power; we fight for freedom.

* Dodges questions from other posters * Refuses to give sources
* When one of its arguments is shown to be false, either ignores the proof or moves the goalposts.  Heh. (From the LGF faq)
