Obama Uses A Food Taster In France

I thought heads of state had stopped doing this around the turn of the century.

A US “taster” tested the food being dished up to President Barack Obama at a dinner in a French restaurant, a waiter said on Sunday. …
Asked by AFP to comment, the restaurant confirmed the report.

It turns, per Ed Morrissey, it this isn’t just something Obama does. Bush did it too:

AS if the Queen hasn’t got enough on her plate accommodating all President Bush’s security demands, the Secret Service have put a food taster into the Buckingham Palace kitchens.
Nothing is being left to chance by the Americans, who have assembled the largest security operation seen in London for the three-day visit.
According to sources, everything that is destined to be served up for the President has to be tasted first.

It’s surprising to hear that this is happening, but when you think about it the Secret Service is nothing if not thorough. And good on them for it.
I’m just wondering, though…how much does an official food taster make? Because I think that’s a job I could do. I mean, travel the world with the President and eat all the food he (or maybe she one day) eats? I think I’m qualified.

Two problems with this.

1) I don’t see Rob pronouncing Arugula “fit to eat.”

2) Assuming there’s no Arugula involved, I don’t see Obama actually getting any of Rob’s left overs since he’s good at one other thing beside blogging.

Of course, I expect it out of the left which has no qualms about sentencing massive numbers of their fellow man to poverty and deprivation just to get their way with their political theories.

I suspect it’s a secret service thing…not directly ordered by Obama. And if Bush did it too, it certainly isn’t a left/right issue.

Is their rationale that tasting and possibly being poisoned by food is the same as throwing themselves in front of a bullet? Is that it?

The arrogance of the political class, believing they have the right to force others to die just for them and not for nation. In a time when we have portable forensics technology to detect chemicals by molecular emissions (smell) and by electromagnetic emissions (like those used to detect explosives) they’re having living people used as guinea pigs.
