Obama Urges His Followers To Confront His Critics And “Get In Their Faces”
Does Obama really think that, after the attacks on Palin and McCain have largely failed, that urging his followers to get more aggressive than they already are is going to work?
McCain generally has been more cutting in his own remarks, and he got more personal on Tuesday.
“Let’s have some straight talk: Sen. Obama is not interested in the politics of hope; he’s interested in his future. That’s why he’s hurling insults,” McCain said as he and running mate Sarah Palin addressed a rally in Ohio.
In Elko, Obama tried to anticipate his critics and called on the crowd of about 1,500 to sharpen their elbows, too.
“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” he said.
Is that really what Obama needs to do to endear himself to on-the-fence independents and Republicans? Tell his followers to argue with them? I think that’s going to alienate more people than it convinces. And check out what Obama wants his followers to say:
“And if they tell you that, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns.’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’ If they tell you, ‘Well, he’s going to raise your taxes,’ you say, ‘No, he’s not, he’s going lower them.’ You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case.”
Obama believes in the Second Amendment? He’s got a funny way of showing it. The NRA (which says that Obama would be the most anti-gun candidate in history) notes that The One supported a total ban on handguns, a ban on the sale and/or transfer of all semi-automatic firearms, a ban on right-to-carry permits and a ban on firearms kept in homes. So Obama supports the right to keep and bear arms, but doesn’t think you should be able to own hand guns or carry guns with you or keep guns in your home.
As for lowering taxes, the guy wants to nearly double the capital gains tax and end the Bush tax cuts. He also wants to raise taxes on “the wealthy” (which is a statement that includes people who Democrats say aren’t wealthy when it comes to signing them up for government health care), and he refuses to talk about ending taxes such as the death tax.
Sure, Obama is talking about cutting taxes for lower-income Americans, but lower income Americans hardly pay any taxes anyway.
As usual, Obama is trying to be someone he’s not in order to win this election.
