Obama Turns Up the Heat in Washington

Literally, more than figuratively!

NYT: WASHINGTON — The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.
“He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”
Thus did an ironclad rule of the George W. Bush administration — coat and tie in the Oval Office at all times — fall by the wayside, only the first of many signs that a more informal culture is growing up in the White House under new management. Mr. Obama promised to bring change to Washington and he has — not just in substance, but in presidential style.
Although his presidency is barely a week old, some of Mr. Obama’s work habits are already becoming clear. He shows up at the Oval Office shortly before 9 in the morning, roughly two hours later than his early-to-bed, early-to-rise predecessor

So, the same guy that told the rest of us that we couldn’t drive our SUVs whenever we wanted or ” keep our homes on, you know, 72 degrees at all times”, keeps his office (when he finally rolls into it) warm enough “to grow orchids”? Man! Even the incompetent Carter wore a sweater to show some solidarity (and leadership) with the huddled masses!
“Do as I say, not as I do” is the hopey change mantra for today!

…we’re staring at mountainous debt, a crumbling economy and years of hardship.

And your answer is to pile on more debt, further erode the economy (which is already starting to show signs of recovery, btw) and make things far worse for far longer with unimaginable budget deficits, pork barrel spending like never before in the country’s history, and no evidence that any of it will do any good for the economy, and then to top it off the predictable return of Carteresque double digit inflation?

He’s still trying to learn the job. A kind of OJT for grownups. Besides, it could be argued that he’s never had a real job before, so this is his first one.

Newsflash: Obama breaks from the Carter Doctrine.

I think he’s doing this just to show he’s not a carbon copy of Jimmah.

He never said you can’t keep your house at 72 degrees. So your point is out the window.

As two or three other people pointed out…yes he did.

Well good, because nobody is talking about 50 degrees. The EVENING temperature was from 55-75 degrees. Certainly sleeping in your house at 70-72 degrees can be considered hot for some.

Last time I checked, 55 falls in “the 50s”.

You threw out the temperatures for Orchids as if that was what he meant. “Well, it coulda been anywhere from 55 to 75″. Except that Axelrod was saying it was hot…cause he’s from Hawaii. And I doubt he’s a botanist…so by saying “grow orchids in there”, we both know he’s just saying the heat is up.

You’re just twisting yourself into knots here.

A lot of good getting in early and wearing a coat and tie did for bush. He still managed to cause the biggest economic disaster of our time.

I would have prefered he be competent in his underwear with the heat cranked up to 80 rather than destroying the economy.

All animals are equal but the demo pigs most equal of all. Except the presidential pig hogging the greatest share of America’s heat. It’s Algorebama!

We’ll have to drill offshore just to keep the heat going in the WH. Maybe they can just channel Obama’s hot air?

  • http://insanereindeer.blogspot.com/ Kenny

But yeah, Bush made ‘em spend billion on stupid stuff.

In all fairness, Bush is not without blame either. The banking bailout was his idea. Sure the Dems porked it up even more…but it was his crap sandwich.

Obama doesn’t understand good old fashioned American leadership. He is a Socialist. What is good for the Socialist leader is not necessarily good for the people, Kinda like Castro or Chavez or Mugabe or…

So how is that hypocrisy if he keeps his house at 72 degrees?

If he tells us we can’t keep our houses at 72 degrees, but keeps his at 72 degrees, that’s hypocracy.

72 degrees is in the high range for growing Orchids.

There’s no one in Chicago who is going to associate 50s or 60s with HOT. Axelrod is comparing the temps to Hawaii. Don’t be retarded.

72 degrees at all times”, keeps his office (when he finally rolls into it) warm enough “to grow orchids”?

So how is that hypocrisy if he keeps his house at 72 degrees?

    Temperature

All those who are into growing orchids will definitely know the fact that most orchids grow well with normal indoor temperatures and the lower night temperature do not decrease growth. In most cases, the orchids needs diverse temperatures encourage budding orchids and different orchids require different temperatures depending largely on the kind of orchid. The daytime temperatures should be around 65 f to 80 f and the night time temperature can be close to 55f and 75f. If you happen to stay in a place that is in a cooler temperature, you should reduce the amount of humidity by reducing the water in the orchids or evaporation trays. With time, you will be able to figure out the best temperature for your orchids to grow and bloom.

72 degrees is in the high range for growing Orchids.

He shows up at the Oval Office shortly before 9 in the morning, roughly two hours later than his early-to-bed, early-to-rise predecessor.

So why no criticism of Bush going to bed early?

Besides, what time you arrive in the office does not indicate what time you start working.

I show up in the office between 9-10am. I start telecommuting and taking phone calls at 6:00am. I respond to emails, do training and work on reports sometimes until 10pm.

It is old school to suggest work is only done in the office……or the White House.

Lazy bum. I suppose he’s going to blame his tardiness on his commute.

You keep saying this and never showing a Republican policy that supposedly caused it. Typical lazy Dem, sleep in type behavior.

    BWHAHAHAHAHAHA

He has been in Freaking Chicago for over 20 years……….

should we take this as a sign of his ability to adapt well?

Axelrod is such a pinhead – does he think anyone but the Obambots accept this pablum as fact?

Too Funny, the Republican Congress’s deficits were under control and sustainable until Nancy Pants took over.

Now with Obama in the white house we’re seeing spending that is absolutely unprecedented.

So much for hope and change, sounds like do as I say and not as I do. Limousine Liberals tell everyone about how the earth is growing hotter than they fly off in their private jets in live in houses that are really big and leave a huge carbon foot print.

So what kind of a racist comment is that? Did he as much as call him a jungle bunny there?
What if it comes out that O’Bama like music with a beat- does Axelrod say, “Well, that ol’ native rythymn is born right in him”? Good thing he works for the Messiah, or the liberal media would be all over those comments.

And really, if you think about it, if the silly bastard likes it hot in there, why did he take off his jacket anyway? Leave it on, dumbass! Like Clinton, the man has no respect for the Office, pure and simple.
