Obama To The Nation: No We Can’t

More lowering the bar from the Obama camp:

President-elect Barack Obama and his inner circle fear that some voters expect him to turn around the economy, wind down the war in Iraq and, perhaps, cure cancer—all by the Fourth of July.

They know they must manage and lower those expectations, CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports. . . .

Now on Obama’s transition team, Reich worries about what happens after the new president is sworn in Jan. 20.

“We all have to be very careful about the expectations that we are putting on this man, our president-elect,” Reich said. “If we all assume it’s going to be the first 100 days, we’re going to be disappointed.”

The man who was Obama’s chief campaign strategist is moving to lower expectations, too.

I was just talking to a fellow conservative tonight, and he was telling me that he actually thinks Obama didn’t want a filibuster majority in Congress.  Because having that would mean he’d have no excuse for not pursuing every single aspect of the massive liberal agenda he campaigned on.

I think that’s probably right.  I think Obama is every bit as liberal as Jimmy Carter was, but the difference is that Obama isn’t as stupid.  I think he knows full well what the impact of some of his policies would be, which is why he’s backing off of some of them.  Such as his walk-back on ending the Bush tax cuts.

For all the hype that went into his administration, I think the end result is going to be a big fat disappointment for most of the liberals that supported him.  Which, of course, is just fine with me.
