Obama To Save/Create More Jobs With Speech Today

Share |

Sound absurd? Well, it’s no more absurd than the idea that the government can spend this country back into prosperity.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama will Tuesday lay out three new approaches to battling the US jobs crisis, in a major speech intended to ensure employment returns along with slowly building economic growth.
But Obama, saddled with huge government deficits which rule out lavish spending to get millions of people back to work, will warn that there is “no silver bullet” available to trim 10 percent unemployment, an official said.
In his speech at the Brookings Institution think-tank in Washington, Obama will announce a set of steps to help small businesses grow and hire new staff, and lay out rebates for homeowners who make their dwellings energy efficient.

Want to help small businesses grow? Here are some steps that would not only stimulate job creation but cut spending as well.
1) Rescind the minimum wage hikes. The minimum wage has gone up $2.00/hour over the last two years, resulting in record unemployment rates for young and low-skill workers.
2) Rescind the unemployment benefit expansions. These expansions were part of the “stimulus” spending bill, and not only have they burdened bankrupt state budgets but they’ve resulted in new taxes on employers (who do the hiring) to fund continued benefits to people who aren’t working. It makes no sense.
3) Promise no more tax hikes (including keeping the Bush tax cuts in place) and no new regulations for the remainder of the Obama administration.
4) Cancel the rest of the “stimulus” spending, end TARP, and use the money left over to pay down on the national debt.
These three things are guaranteed to revitalize our economy and spur new hiring. And the beautiful thing is not only will they not cost us tax dollars, we’ll actually cut spending too.

Don’t come begging from me when it hits the fan. Nothing here for your type but a kick in the ass if your lucky.

  2. HG on December 8th, 2009 at 6:13 am

You mean communists? Oh they’ll fight alright, we know all about them. You libs on the other hand, well, look at how you all are reacting to Obama’s forced decision to send more troops, or your tenderness towards terrorists. Nope, you’ll hunt nothing.

But thanks for going on the record with your support for communists and there evil.

You’re no American dino, and now an avowed enemy. We ought to exile scum like you.

  3. HG on December 8th, 2009 at 4:04 am

There is a lot dino doesn’t understand. Besides stopping the things that are killing the economy, stability is also important for any sustainable recovery. Not knowing from one year to the next, or in the case of the current administration, from one speach to the next, what economic conditions to plan for keeps most on the sidelines.

  4. sayanything-4603 on December 8th, 2009 at 4:07 am

did they open sanhaven agian or did the for get to turn you loose???????????

  5. HG on December 8th, 2009 at 3:59 am

That’s why you liberals will continue the economic downturn and high unemployment rates. You disparage freedom. Freedoms don’t include illegal activities or gov’t mandated business practices that advantage one income level over another. Freedom wasn’t given to the financial sector, license was. There is a huge difference.

  6. robert108 on December 8th, 2009 at 6:02 am

Ignorant moron dino: Only your stupid Marxism promises utopia, with its enforcement of equal outcomes. The free market promises freedom and reward equivalent with achievement. If you produce, you get to keep what you produce.

  7. sayanything-4625 on December 8th, 2009 at 4:27 am

When conservatives fail they weren’t “real” conservatives. It’s one of the mainstays of conservative dogma.

Take the beam out of your eye Dino before you accuse anyone else of using your tactics. I hear you all the time talking about how we haven’t elected a liberal or followed liberal policies for thirty years when we point to Carter or Clinton.

you own all of the failures of your party.

Your own stupid party doesn’t even believe Zero has “saved or created jobs” with the stimulus yet foolishly believes we should spend more even though that created a huge debt and failed to “create or save” jobs. How’s that for “failed policies”?

    Congress finds the following:

    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-4191

    (1) Our Nation continues to be hamstrung by a recession that led to the current jobless recovery and record deficits.

    (2) The unemployment rate is now 10.2 percent and most economists expect it to climb higher.

    (3) The Federal deficit has reached $1,400,000,000,000 for 2009.

    (4) The jobless recovery suggests that the Federal Government must continue to prime the economy, but the record deficit is a real obstacle.

So we spent our way to a “record deficit” and got a jobless recovery! And the D@mn fools want to do it again! Unbelievable!

  8. sayanything-4625 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:59 am

Rosy predictions didn’t originate with Obama.

    Nice spin Dino.

In 2005 bush promised a surplus by 2009

And we elected Democrats in 2007 and they have spent us into the sorry straights we are in now.

You may not go out and buy a car but you might take out student loans and get a degree. You might have to borrow to fix the roof leaks. You’d still have to pay for your medications. You’d still be obligated to pay for long term expenses like, oh, I don’t know, 2 WARS?

Is that what we are doing? Spending millions on the salt marsh mouse is like getting a degree? Okey Dokey! What color is the sky in Utopia?

You people are completely unreasonable and ignorant of life.

Say’s the man that’s proven he doesn’t understand the basics of economics, government, history or compassion! Get real Dino, I want America to be destroyed, I hope Republicans become unemployed and I hope your kids pay for blah, blah blah. You are the king of wishful thinking and evil thoughts.

  9. sayanything-4625 on December 8th, 2009 at 6:00 am

What truth? What we have with you is delusional b@ll. You run from it because it stinks and will stick to you like glue!

  10. HG on December 8th, 2009 at 4:55 am

Dino, you libs are afraid of your own shadow. You won’t even hunt your own dinner.

The deficit is related to a reduction in ecomic activity, I agree. So then, stay with me now, policies that encourage sustainable economic activity would result in increased revenues and a reduction in the deficit.
Our president isn’t doing anything to encourage economic activity, in fact his policies are discouraging the same while at the same time spending off the chart.

  11. robert108 on December 8th, 2009 at 6:02 am

You idealize two totalitarian mass murderers. No surprise here.

  12. sayanything-4625 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:18 am

No one, including the president, believed we could end this recession and correct the devastation of the prior decade in a short time.

You mean the President was lying when he said we had to pass the stimulus to keep unemployment under 8%? Who knew? Anyone with a brain so that leaves you out. Reality shows up and hits you in the back of the head with a two by four!

Only a fraction of the deficit is a result of new spending.

So the stimulus wasn’t new spending? Wow, who knew.

    <

All things tied to the last administration.

You are right, the spending can be directly tied to the democratic congress which originated and passed the stimulus bills.

Here’s an analogy: If you lose your job and continue to support your family and pay your bills using borrowed money, you will be in deficit. The alternative is to sell the house, kill the kids and move into the streets.

That’s well and good but you also don’t go out and buy a new car, a bigger house, a house by the lake and give a house to your neighbor. That’s what you fools did.

  13. sayanything-15427 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:13 am

If McCain had won we would be in the exact same mess (He is only slightly better than “O”) except it would be the Republicans fault because McCain would go along to get along and sign whatever came across his desk. His main campaign points were basically responding to Obama with “What he said”.

  14. sayanything-15427 on December 8th, 2009 at 4:09 am

“Our side” isn’t in power any longer because they stopped following conservative ideas and became democrat lite. Republicans stayed home or voted against their own people to send a message to the GOP. Dems mistakenly think they have a mandate of some sort when really they are in power because republicans lost, not because they won on any sort of ideas.

Unfortunately elections have consequences, but the tea party movement is the silver lining.

GWB and John McCain are not conservatives, they are are Progressive Republicans and in case you haven’t noticed are pretty much hated on conservative blogs. We will defend Bush to a point but for the most part we no longer claim him and will join you in bashing his policies. Its only when you bring out the left wing crazy BS that we have to stand up to you.

In fact, I bet that is why lefties keep bringing up idiotic Bush rants, because if they can make us defend him, they think they can make us own him.

  15. HG on December 8th, 2009 at 3:35 am

Regardleess of what you think of true conservative ideas, our President’s ideas have failed dismally.

We are confident freedom works every time it is tried.

  16. sayanything-15427 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:14 am

We began disowning Bush the moment he said “I’m abandoning free market principles in order to save the free market”. Not after he failed.

  17. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 4:14 am

Yes Russ, I know. When conservatives fail they weren’t “real” conservatives. It’s one of the mainstays of conservative dogma. The real conservative is akin to the unicorn, a magical creature with the ability to create peace and blissful Utopia by its mere presence.

You not only own bush, you own all of the failures of your party. If not, then why did you vote for them?

As for the reason democrats won: voter turnout on the last election was HUGE contradicting your theory that anyone stayed home rather than vote. You hardcore cons voted for McCain. And you LOST because the country is in shambles thanks to conservatism’s FAILURES.

You of all people should understand that.

  18. sayanything-1317 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:38 am

Same tired bull. When Republicans act like liberals, it’s a failing of conservatism.

  19. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 4:46 am

It would have not resulted in the situation we have now.

  20. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 3:38 am

    Conservatives have no ideas.

We went from a 6% DROP in GDP in the last quarter of 2008 to a 3% rise recently. The free fall was ended though it was expensive. It will cost a lot and take time to recover from the disaster that followed the bush years with a REPUBLICAN Congress.

Empty platitudes like “freedom works every time” are not only insipid, they’re inaccurate. The freedoms given to the financial sector are what led to our present situation.

  21. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:32 am

Tell that to Castro or Stalin. They had the right idea.

  22. sayanything-4253 on December 8th, 2009 at 4:27 am

You not only own bush, you own all of the failures of your party. If not, then why did you vote for them?

Good point, yeah we should have voted for John Kerry and Al Gore and gone with their great fiscal plans.

  23. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:51 am

It’s only tired because you can’t run from the truth.

  24. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 4:46 am

No one, including the president, believed we could end this recession and correct the devastation of the prior decade in a short time.

Only a fraction of the deficit is a result of new spending. A small fraction. but you know that. You smarter stems know that you can use the perception of Obama as a big spender to win over the lesser among you, the stupid stems.

The deficit is a direct result of the downturn which resulted in drastically reduced revenues. The bailouts cost us billions. The Fed pumped trillions in to the economy to alleviate an impending collapse. The wars continue to consume enormous amounts of cash. All things tied to the last administration.

Here’s an analogy: If you lose your job and continue to support your family and pay your bills using borrowed money, you will be in deficit. The alternative is to sell the house, kill the kids and move into the streets. That’s probably not an option.

I honestly wish McCain would have won. We’d be hunting you people with dogs by now.

  25. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 3:31 am

Your ideas don’t work. That’s why your side isn’t in power anymore.

  26. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:33 am

Yes, in the last month of his 8 years.

    What a moron.

  27. robport on December 8th, 2009 at 3:37 am

Dino doesn’t understand that I’m not really advocating for doing anything. I’m just asking that we stop doing things that are killing our economy.

  28. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 5:31 am

Rosy predictions didn’t originate with Obama. In 2005 bush promised a surplus by 2009. How’d that work out? For that matter, 30 years of conservatives promised us a free market Utopia if we followed their agenda. And we did, to disastrous results.

No one has a crystal ball.

You may not go out and buy a car but you might take out student loans and get a degree. You might have to borrow to fix the roof leaks. You’d still have to pay for your medications. You’d still be obligated to pay for long term expenses like, oh, I don’t know, 2 WARS?

You people are completely unreasonable and ignorant of life. Your only focus is on the election and power your side lost due to their mismanagement of the country. You don’t even care about your kids and what your ideology has done to their futures.

  29. sayanything-4416 on December 8th, 2009 at 3:45 am

Too late for that. What needed to stop was people voting republican and allowing the dismantling of our regulatory system.

Oh, and in case you forgot when this economy melted down and who demanded government take immediate action, here’s another presidential speech that lays things out pretty well:

President Bush Addresses Nation on Economic Crisis

There’s no reset button, fellas. If this crisis was big enough to send that idiot fratboy your voted for to the airwaves to beg for a rescue, it’s not going to be cured quickly.

Here’s hoping that the people losing jobs voted republican! There’s a good chance they did seeing as how republicans won so many elections in the past 30 years.
