Obama To Brand “Stimulus” Project With Recovery.org Logo

Which looks suspiciously like the round “O” logo from his campaign.

Behold, the endless campaign.

President Obama announced today that his administration will begin stamping an emblem on projects funded by the economic stimulus package so that people can easily recognize the effects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

All projects will be stamped with the ARRA logo (short for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) and lists the recovery.gov website on the emblem.

The clear intent here is for citizens to the see the sign and know that The One has touched them and their communities.  And it’s not exactly a new trend in politics, as anyone familiar with the Stephanie Herseth bus stops in South Dakota can attest.

But is it appropriate?  Frankly, I don’t think so.  I don’t think it’s appropriate at all for politicians to add additional expense to projects the taxpayers are paying for in order to make sure they get credit for said project, even if the “stamp” they’re putting on it is as oblique as Obama’s.

Politicians raise hundreds of millions from voluntary contributors to brag (or lie) about what they’ve accomplished in office.  There’s no need for the taxpayers to foot the bill for more.

Besides, the way this “stimulus” spending may turn out, Obama may not want to remind people who is responsible for it.

Update: Ace:

Obama’s creepy branding is similar to Soviet iconography. Instead of a sickle, a leaf; instead of a hammer, a gear. Instead of the tools of the worker, the fruits of their labor.

Deliberate? Or just some sort of subconscious Jungian attraction to such symbols?
