Obama Throws Reverend Wright Under The Bus?

Kinda…

Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it’s on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue…

He only rejects the statements…“that are at issue?” So if new controversial statements from Wright come up we can expect another repudiation from Obama, right?
This sort of hedging isn’t exactly going to make this go away for Obama. Plus, how much is this sort of rejection worth if Obama’s only doing it now that it’s become an issue in the campaign?
During all the “Obama is a Mulsim” nonsense Barack was quick to hold up his church as evidence of his Christianity. It’s clear from his biography that both Wright and this church have been important to him for decades. So why did Obama only come out and reject these comments from Wright after the public started paying attention them?
Probably because this is all just a charade meant to distance Obama from his crazy church.
But it’s hard for me to buy into. Obama has been sitting in Wright’s congregation for decades, and I don’t think stuff like “God damn America” is new to Wright’s repertoire. So what about all those years Wright was preaching racial hatred and anti-Americanism and Obama was just sitting there soaking it in?

Give the man a break. He’s had a change of heart I’m sure. After all, his wife is finally proud of America now!

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

What could that possibly mean, other than that you believe Barack Obama hates America?

Todd: It’s clearly evident that your approach to most issues on this blog has been: “What could that possibly mean?”
Come back when you can figure out what a few of those things mean!

I agree with Ben that Obama should have stood behind his pastor if he was willing to attend that church for 20 years instead of acting like he has a Republican worldview and now questions if his pastor is ‘patriotic” (Obama actually said those words). Also, Obama is a very wealthy man who made about a million in 06. He shrewdly maneuvers his way around issues and I think the country will be just as divided if not more so if he was elected. That said, he would be better than a Bush clone. Hopefully McCain can distance himself from Bush, something he doesnt seem to want to do. Its not good out here folks if you are a working stiff.

My biggest gripe with Obama is that he fails to live up to his own rhetoric. He’s lying when he says he wants to transcend race issues. BS! He could’ve taken this opportunity to address why a great deal of African-Americans are still angry and frustrated about–what they perceive–a still racist, white-dominated country. Instead, what does he do. He throws his “supposed” spiritual father/uncle under the bus for PURELY political reasons. I guess WWJD is discarded for WWOD, namely, toss that nut overboard before derail my train of ‘hope’. I disagree with Rev. Wright immensely, but I have no problem addressing the nasty taboo of American racism. Both sides (white/black) still don’t know how to deal with the issue. This notion that we can magically put it behind us is laughable. Anyway, if Obama can’t even me loyal to his church and face some tough questions, then how can we believe he’ll be loyal to American interests???

It is astounding to see how unfairly and viciously some radio and TV commentators are reacting to Barack Obama’s speech on race. It is simply inexcusable to say, as they do, that Obama “threw his own [white] grandmother under the bus.”

Rather, contrary to what everyone expected, he didn’t throw anyone under the bus, neither his regrettably hate-filled pastor, nor his own partially prejudiced grandmother who herself admitted that she sometimes struggled with such feelings (as Obama makes clear in his book, Dreams of My Father). He didn’t throw racially resentful blue collar workers under the bus, nor did he throw angry unemployed black radicals, nor you or me under the bus.

Instead, he pointed out that we are all part of this wonderful but in some ways still flawed America, and that there are legitimate reasons for some of the hurtful black and white anger that divides us — anger which, nonetheless, we should all strive to overcome.

Never since Lincoln has a politician spoken to our nation with greater candor, dignity, and truthfulness. Obama stands tall above all the carping talk show hosts who — resentful at being confronted by a person so utterly sincere, honest and, quite simply, good — try in vain to pick him to pieces.

His speech will stand the test of time because it represents something new — not politics as usual, but something that lies at the root of all right-minded religion. I begin to wonder if America is worthy of this person of such uniqueness, stature, integrity, and amazing magnanimity.

I’m still confused as to why someone who clearly hates his country is trying to run for president.

    Right? I mean:

“So what about all those years Wright was preaching racial hatred and anti-Americanism and Obama was just sitting there soaking it in?”

What could that possibly mean, other than that you believe Barack Obama hates America? That is the only possible way any of this is remotely relevant–otherwise you’re just trashing one lone pastor. So do you believe that Senator Obama supports a message of “racial hatred and anti-Americanism”?

SOULJAH JIHAD — OBAMA CAMPAIGN CRISIS

The Republicans’ disengagement (media bias), if not disillusionment, with the economic campaign issues is borne out by the fact that many more Republicans are able to explain, extinguish, and excoriate the name Barrack Obama with the term (JIHAD), than can name Bush/Dick Cheney and McCain — as the Big Oil — BIG HALLIBURTAN politicians expanding GOP IRAQ WAR ideology, and Republican White House Party Elders’ GI Bill of Rights for the 21st century IRAQ WAR ECONOMY. Even among Republicans, Clinton is much more visible than GOP presumptive candidate John McCain towards affecting positively the important economic issues facing America’s middle class economy.

When asked who they would vote for in the general election for president of the United States, the natural pendulum swing in America is 79% of Republicans named Hillary Clinton as their choice. Obama has more holes in him than Swiss-Cheese. Reasons for Obama’s Campaign Crisis “GLORK” Campaign Crisis include:

Obama’s presidential campaign has received $2,812,336 from firms that employ registered federal lobbyists. [fec.gov]

Obama has taken $405,747 from the Pharmaceutical industry. [opensecrets.org]

Obama has received $1,185,937 from the Commercial Banking industry. [opensecrets.org]

Rev. Boswell. I respect your opinion, but must disagree. Obama’s remarks to me were mostly rhetoric. Do you really go along with a pastor taking the Lord’s name in vain?
