I’ve been saying it for months now: The more people learn about Obama the less they like him.

Even as Barack Obama gave his soaring speech Thursday night, his campaign was playing hardball with its critics.
Team Obama has launched an offensive against WGN, the Chicago Tribune’s radio station, for interviewing Stanley Kurtz. Mr. Kurtz is a conservative writer who this week forced the University of Illinois to finally open its records on Sen. Obama’s association with William Ayers, the unrepentant 1970s Weather Underground terrorist.
An Obama campaign email to supporters called Mr. Kurtz a “slimy character assassin” whose “divisive, destructive ranting” should be confronted. WGN producer Zack Christenson says the outpouring of negative calls and emails is “unprecedented.” He also notes that it is curious — because “we wanted the Obama campaign’s take” on Mr. Kurtz’s findings, but the campaign declined to put anyone on air.
Separately, Mr. Obama’s lawyers have also demanded that the Justice Department prosecute an organization called the American Issues Project for running an ad about ties between their candidate and Mr. Ayers. . . .
Obama aides believe John Kerry lost in 2004 because he failed to respond to the “Swift Boat” ads attacking him, and they are lashing out. Sometimes the Obama objections have merit, as when they exposed errors in Jerome Corsi’s sensationalized Obama biography. But sometimes they are designed to shut down legitimate questions. “They’re terrified of people poking around Obama’s life,” one reporter told Gabriel Sherman at the New Republic. “The whole Obama narrative is built around the narrative that Obama and [campaign strategist] David Axelrod built, and, like all stories, it’s not entirely true.” The stakes are high. If the full story of Mr. Obama’s relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright had been revealed before the Iowa caucus, he wouldn’t have won.

Obama has gone through a great deal of effort to paint an image of himself and his campaign that isn’t true. He’s poured millions into a “50 state strategy” to increase his appeal in reliably “red” states. He’s recruited faux “Republicans” to campaign for him. He’s made soaring-but-vague rhetoric the cornerstone of his campaign so that he can wow audiences with his oratory gifts without revealing any specifics about his agenda.
But none of that is the real Barack Obama.
The real Barack Obama is the one who sat in his friend and mentor Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church for twenty years while he damned America and railed against “the white man’s greed.” The real Barack Obama is the man who launched his political career at the home of bomb-setting Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers. The real Barack Obama is the half-term Senator who has already amassed the most liberal voting record in the US Senate.
That’s the real Barack Obama his campaign doesn’t want you to meet.

“Without revealing any specifics”? Did you actually listen to his acceptance speech at the convention? Have you been to his website and read his detailed plans for things like energy, healthcare, education? I have heard some callers on C-Span say the same kind of thing about Obama not talking about specifics and am frankly confused. Either you and they are not paying any attention to what he actually says or you’re just not interested.

With all due respect, do you really want to hear specifics or would you rather keep talking about how you haven’t heard any?

Either he has specific plans or he does not. You have mentioned some of them. Whether or not they change doesn’t negate the fact that they are specific.

He was against and then for Jerusalem as a divided capital.

He was against and then for domestic drilling.

He was against immunity for the telecoms and then for it.

He was for middle class tax hikes (on people making as little as $41,500/year) and then he was against them.

Please cite specifics What exactly did he say before and after you say he changed his position? How do you know a change he made was “pandering” rather than learning?

I say that as someone who was familiar with Ayers long before I ever heard the name Barack Obama.

Ayers specializes in the “critical studies” area of education. For those not familiar with the term, critical studies refers to a Marxist interpretation of a given field. Critical studies is not limited to education, but is found within other fields such as law. Those who specialize in critical studies use the radical framework to force changes in institutions, with the overall goasl of those changes eventually leading to some sort of greater revolutionary change.

Even among “critical studies” radicals, Ayers himself is an extremist. His whole post-terrorism career has been devoted to indoctrinating education students in Marxist ideology, and training them to introduce Marxist pedagogy into the K-12 classroom. When right-wing critics of education complain about kids being indoctrinated and not educated, they can point to no better example than William Ayers.

I relay this information as a science teacher with two masters degrees. While completing my MA in education, I read many tracts by critical studies exponents.

Ayers was a bad guy in the 70s, but the damage he’s done to schools and students is far worse than anything he did with his bombs, or done by his cop murdering buddies.

The fact that Obama launched his political career in Ayers living room tells me all I need to know about “The One.”

Let’s not forget the “typical white person” grandmother story.

It was originally from Obama’s autobiography, Dreams From My Father and was obviously a primary event in forming the adult Obama.

He included the story in his Philadelphia speech to answer the wave of criticism over the black liberation sermons given by Rev. Wright.

During the speech, Obama made reference to the incident with his grandmother and the panhandler.

He explained he could no more disown Reverend Wright than he could disown his own grandmother who “once confessed fear of black men who passed her on the street.”

The same grandmother who had used her bank vice president’s salary to provide room and board for Obama, plus the tuition and other expenses he needed to attend the prestigious private school in Hawaii.

Never, in telling the bus stop story in the autobiography or decades later in his campaign apology in Philadelphia, does Obama take the time to acknowledge that his grandmother was at that bus stop to go to work and earn a living from which he would benefit.

In the book, Obama begins the story by recalling a day when he heard his grandparents arguing. His grandmother had been harassed by a panhandler when she was waiting for the bus one morning to go to work.

She was so upset that she asked her husband to drive her to work so she could avoid taking the bus.

Obama did not understand why she was so upset until his grandfather told him the panhandler was black.

So upset by the incident that he could not stay home, Obama sought out the advice of his communist friend Frank Marshall Davis.

Later that evening, drinking whiskey with Frank at the poet’s Waikiki home, Obama told him the story of his grandmother and the black panhandler.

As Barry most likely expected he would be, Frank was sympathetic. Listening closely to Barry, Frank explained to Obama that his grandmother was right to be scared.
“She understands that black people have a reason to hate.” Davis told him. “That’s just how it is. For your sake, I wish it were otherwise. But it’s not. So you might as well get used to it.”

Those words sealed the deal for Barry Obama. Frank had just told him he was right to reject his grandparents. Despite all they had done for him, his grandparents were still “white folks” and “white folks” are racist. What else could Barry expect?

Obama said Davis’ words made the earth shake under his feet. When he steadied himself, he knew “for the first time I was totally alone.”

Gone were both his father and mother. Now Obama could feel justified concluding he had been abandoned by his grandparents as well.

Looked at objectively, how could it have been otherwise.
Obama’s grandparents were white and Obama was in the process of forming his identity as an African-American.

Clearly, in this story, the person Obama identified himself as being was not his grandmother, it was the black panhandler.

Providing that person has good judgement and some history of doing something.

How do you know a change he made was “pandering” rather than learning?

If that actually is the case, it seems to me that what he is learning is that the radical “progressive” positions he first advocated last year and through the primaries are not supported by a majority of Americans. Obama will have to do a much better job of convincing voters that he isn’t who and what he first said he was, than he did convincing them in the first place. Changing one’s position to suit the temperment of the audience is what’s known as pandering. And pandering by politicians is hardly what any rational adult would consider “change we can believe in.”

Besides, it was his own VP choice, Joe Biden, who said specifically of Barack Obama,

Axelrod has no choice but to deny that Obama and Ayers are close friends because Obama and Ayers share more anti-American sentiment than Axelrod can afford the voting public to realize.

Here is more information on Palin’s actual judgement and action:

Back in January, the secretary of the interior was considering whether or not polar bears should be on the endangered species list. There were strong feelings on both sides of the issue. Childish romantics, who think there should be more bio-diversity on Earth than cows and us, wanted them listed. Grown-ups (and oil company lobbyists) argued that the answers are never that simple. But what about the scientists? Governor Palin wrote an op-ed for the New York Times that said:

“I strongly believe that adding them [polar bears that is, not scientists] to the list is the wrong move at this time. My decision is based on a comprehensive review by state wildlife officials of scientific information from a broad range of climate, ice and polar bear experts.” – S Palin

The polar bears weren’t drowning. They were hanging themselves in their cells.

So that was that. Scientists said so.

Except they didn’t.

The Feds — who eventually did add the bears to the list — based their decision on models that showed all of Alaska’s polar bears dead by 2050. The ice they hunt and mate on is melting and they’ll fall in the water and drown.

There were too many “ifs” to this theory for Governor Palin. (Does ice really melt when it gets warm? Is ice really water? It doesn’t look like water.) She had to have her own people check it out. So she sent the Feds’ reports to three marine biologists, including Robert Small, head of the marine mammals program for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Small wrote back:

“Overall, we believe that the methods and analytical approaches used to examine the currently available information supports the primary conclusions and inferences stated in these 9 reports.”

In other words, the Feds are right. The email is dated October 9, 2007. Palin’s op ed, where she says they said the Feds were wrong, was published January 5th, 2008.

But was Palin lying? Not technically. Look at what she wrote again. She only says her decision is “based on a comprehensive review of wildlife experts.” She doesn’t say it’s based on agreeing with anything they said. That’s you, jumping to conclusions.

It’s like later, in the same op ed, where she repeats talk radio’s favorite polar bear fact:

“Polar bears are more numerous now than they were 40 years ago.” – Palin

The implication is that their habitat is stable and climate change is something Al Gore made up because he’s lonely. But it’s only an implication. Why else would their population increase? I mean, we also stopped hunting them in 1973, and that’s… let’s see… 08 minus 73… carry the 5… round up… about 40 years ago. Not shooting them — that might be part of the explanation. But I’m sure there’s more.

All I know is, there are lots of polar bears and no scientific reason at all to believe they can’t live happily, underwater, eating clean coal. Let’s get drilling!

It’s almost like Republicans say ridiculous twisted half-truths, and the New York Times publishes them as facts.

Obama tried to minimize the extensiveness of his relationship with Ayers. But it turns out that Ayers thought so highly of Obama that he put Obama in charge of one of his educational initiatives.

When Obama described Ayers as an “English Professor” and a “guy” that lives in his neighborhood, he deliberately lied to the American people.

Obama condemned Ayers use of terrorism in the 60s and 70s in mildest of fashions. But worse still, Obama has never repudiated Ayers attempts to indoctrinate kids and teachers into his hateful, anti-American ideology.

But my assertion is that what Ayers has been doing for the last 20+ years in the field of education woud be EVEN MORE radioactive….if only the people knew.

Ayers has specialized in indoctrinating teachers and students in a radical worldview of Marxism and hatred. This hatred is directed at private enterprise, private property, individual responsibility, individual liberty, and love of county.

Ayers still wants to bring down America, but instead of bombs he wants to use our public school system to do it. What Ayers and his ritical studies comrads do when they get their hooks into a school system is pull resources away from book and lab equipment and discipline. Those resources are then funneled into lessons designed to alianate students from thier country, and breed hatred for the country. This is also a considerable distraction from what should be the student’s first priority, getting a good education that will prepare them for the future.

Critical studies advocates would argue CHANGING America’s political and economic systems is the future that we should be educating kids for.

As a teacher with two masters degree, I recognize that Ayers and his “critical studies” comrads pose one of the single greatest threats to our ability to deliver a good education to every kid. Do I think that Ayers will ever be able to amass an angry army of prolitariate from his student’s students? No. But he’s ruining a lot of kids and teachers in the process.

All this revolution in the classroom isn’t crap he did 30 years ago…this is what he was doing while Obama was sitting in his living room.

Axelrod tried to explain away Obama’s association with Ayers as incidental, in the attempt to reframe the relationship as trivial.

Axelrod is betting that American voters will forgive Obama for knowing Ayers if Obama’s only guilt is “guilt by association.”

That is why Axelrod argues Obama knew Ayers only because they lived in the same neighborhood and their kids went to the same school.

Axelrod is an accomplished political operative and he knew exactly what he was doing in responding to the question about Ayers.

Axelrod’s problem is Obama maintained the relationship with Ayers over many years because it was politically useful to Obama, especially as he first ran for political office from the impoverished, largely African-American South Side of Chicago.

Now that Ayers is no longer useful to Obama, Axelrod wants to drop him and he sure as hell never wants the Chicago Anneberg Challenge Documents at UIC to ever be released.

Obama’s tutelage in Saul Alinsky’s community organization methodology; the network of 1960s radicals Obama befriended in Chicago, including Bill Ayers; the “Chicago Way” patronage package offered to Obama by Chicago’s corrupt political fixer Tony Rezko; his relationship with the black-liberation theology of Reverend Jeremiah Wright and Trinity United Church of Christ; and his history with Louis Farrakhan and the Black Muslims.

One by one, Obama has systematically dropped nearly all these Chicago political friends and associations, in what has become a pattern of lying about or otherwise intentionally misrepresenting these Chicago relationships.

One by one, Obama has claimed he is now disappointed by what he has learned about these former associates, and has asserted that what they represent about the past is not who he is today.

One by one, Obama reveals himself to be just another politician calculating from expediency.

The problem is that Obama sought out his relationships with the Alinsky organization, the Ayers-Dohrn radicals, the scandal-ridden Rezko, Reverend Wright and black-liberation theology, and Farrakhan and the Black Muslims.

At the time he wanted these ties. As much as Obama might like to define these relationships as irrelevant to his platform as a presidential candidate, the issue of character remains important to the vast majority of voters.

Every president faces unanticipated problems and crises. The only way to predict what a candidate will do once elected is to look at the past, including examining the people the candidate invited into his or her immediate orbit of personal friends, professional associates, and mentors, including their pastors and religious advisors.

The focus on Chicago is justifiable. Obama has spent most of his adult life in Chicago politics. He came to Washington for the first time in 2004, when he was elected U.S. senator from Illinois.

By contrast, Obama has spent nearly a quarter century of his life in Chicago. Obama is and always has been a radical on the far left.

He is at heart a coldly calculating politician, driven more by winning at all costs than by the lofty principles he espouses.

Obama learned well from Machiavelli, the political inspiration of his community organizer mentor, Saul Alinsky.

Obama aides believe John Kerry lost in 2004 because he failed to respond to the “Swift Boat” ads attacking him, and they are lashing outKerry actually used exactly the same tactics employed by the Obama group.

Kind of ironic that a) this reporter speaks glowingly of such tactics, and b) is unaware that using tort as part of a political strategy is a losing strategy.

If you don’t have the facts on your side, you have a basic problem. It’s that simple, and trying to shut up people who are pointing that out merely confirms to ordinary folks that you don’t.

America needs a leader who can make decisions and then be open to change based on new facts and or persuasion.

Exactly. And America needs a leader who will actually listen to the people and all dissenting opinions because no one person has all the answers.

It takes a special kind of dishonesty to describe Obama’s flip-flops as “specific plans.”

As for his changing views, how about:

He was against and then for Jerusalem as a divided capital.

He was against and then for domestic drilling.

He was against immunity for the telecoms and then for it.

He was for middle class tax hikes (on people making as little as $41,500/year) and then he was against them.
