Obama Successfully Bribes Pacific Island Nation Into Taking Gitmo Detainees

Seventeen of the Chinese Muslims currently detained at Gitmo, to be exact, but to what end I wonder? Why is detention in Palau better than detention in Guantanamo Bay? Given the $200 million bribe Obama just paid the Pacific island republic, keeping the detainees in Gitmo (where we’ll have a military base long after the detention center is closed) would have been a lot cheaper.
It seems to me like the taxpayers are on the hook for $200 million so that Obama can make a politically convenient detainee transfer that really accomplishes nothing.

The tropical Pacific island nation of Palau announced Wednesday it will accept up to 17 Chinese Muslims who have languished in legal limbo at Guantanamo Bay despite a Pentagon determination that they are not “enemy combatants.” …
President Johnson Toribiong said Palau was accepting the detainees “as a humanitarian gesture” intended to help them restart their lives. His archipelago, with a population of about 20,000, will accept up to 17 of the detainees subject to periodic review, Toribiong said in a statement released to The Associated Press.
“This is but a small thing we can do to thank our best friend and ally for all it has done for Palau,” he said.

By the way, the $200 million bribe Palau is getting to take these detainees? It will double their GDP this year.
This is one expensive shell game.

Any bets on how long it will be before the far left wants this place shut down also?

I’m placing my bet of “Never”. The media will ignore this as best as they are able, and thus it will never be a popular issue like Gitmo. Anything bad for Obama will be avoided.

I’ll bet that the detainees were better off at Gitmo then they will be on this Pacific island.

Why is detention in Palau better than detention in Guantanamo Bay?

This is symbolic change, all you could ever hope for and more. You’re deliberately missing how much change goes on here. GITMO was built by CheneyBlackHalliburton on American soil (evil) while Palau is a tropical paradise island that is decidedly NOT American (Good.)

Any bets on how long it will be before the far left wants this place shut down also?

Absolutely never. I’ll bet everything left in my 401k or a snickers bar, whichever is greater.

Heck for 100 million I could take good care of them myself.

Could be. How will these prisoners be treated once the $200 million bribe money runs out?

Will Palau get on-going funding, or will it be up to them?

Bribes is good Rob. I’d have also put cons, cajoles, or browbeats up for grabs too but bribes works. Somehow intimidate would not cut it though. It’s hard to be intimidated by a guy whose teleprompter stands in for him in interviews.

Obama Successfully (verb missing here) Pacific Island Nation Into Taking Gitmo Detainees

Now then, if Obama is willing to give money away to store these people, I’m willing to bet Dino would be willing to have some live with him as room mates for that money. Of course their strict Islamic code and ethnic/cultural sensitivities will result in them beheading him, but that’s the beauty of it. AND the locality can claim the money as no one will ever claim to be his next of kin, and use it to continue the beautification of his neighborhood by burning any sign he ever existed.

You have to be a little more creative at looking for the upside of liberalism’s inane actions.
