Obama: Stimulus Means Caterpillar Will Re-Hire Workers, Caterpillar: Um, Not So Much

Remember the other day when Obama said that spending hundreds of billions of dollars on dog parks and frisbee golf courses and nationalized health records would make Caterpillar re-hire some of its laid off workers?
He maybe should have run that by the folks at Caterpillar first.

Asked if the stimulus package would be able to stop the 22,000 layoffs or not, Owens said, “I think realistically no. The truth is we’re going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again”
“It is going to take some time before that stimulus bill” means re-hiring, he said.

I’m shocked that the folks at Caterpillar aren’t buying into the idea that the stimulus is a miracle cure for the economy.

    The Pentagone (as in bye bye?) did not say that it was a miracle cure and Bush didn’t give a date on when they would finish the job in Iraq.

    This is another parsing of words that doesn’t change the fact that Bush said it would take some time before they fix Iraq.

    So they admit the war in Iraq would work, just not right off the bat.

    All politicians said it would get worse before it gets better.

    Uh…well….I supported the surge, and we know that many people asked for more troops on the ground. it was a tactical error, but that tactical error didn’t stop the idea of invading Iraq from being a bad idea in the first place.

    We didn’t have a security threat from Iraq. We have an economic situation.

    i think its neat how he can just make things up. heck, unlike bush, he doesnt even need the rest of the world to agree with him. he just says stuff and watches the fur fly! good for him!

    It’s a simple fact, ;liberals like Obama lie, about near everything. With Obama it’s called jive talking, just talking in lies. What Obama says today is not going to be what he says tomorrow, or even in the next hour. You are supposed to forget what he said yesterday. Obama is just a glib talking motor mouth liar.

    Small brained liberals can play along, since they seem incapable of remembering anything day to day anyway — “They are trying to hoodwink and bamboozle you”, Obama said — no sir, it’s you who are trying to do the hoodwinking and bamboozling. And you think because ACORN rigged the election, and PRAVDA does your bidding, you can get away with it — Wrong you are.

    Yes,I agree with that the if he says something it will be made true. The problem is that they always speak to much and don’t do anything to accomplish their talk.

    Obama is really full of himself. It’s sad how he uses people. The people at the plant he visited I’m sure they had better things to do like prepare resumes, etc. Anything would be better than listening to Obama’s diarrhea of the mouth.

    I wonder which economists it was who’ve said that the Obama/Reid/Pelosi “stimulus and recovery” plan is the right way to go. Even Krugman has disavowed this Keynesian monstrosity, as have just about every centrist economist of note, from Martin Feldstein on down the foodchain.

    Tim Geithner said that it didn’t work during the Great Depression or in Japan’s deflationary recession in the 1990s, so those of us who think are still left wondering if there are any sound economic reasons for spending all this money that we obviously don’t have to begin with.
