Obama Skips Visiting US Troops In Germany To Make Time For More Campaigning In Front Of Germans

You have to wonder about Obama’s priorities with this decision.

1:42 p.m.: SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned that Obama has cancelled a planned short visit to the Rammstein and Landstuhl US military bases in the southwest German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The visits were planned for Friday. “Barack Obama will not be coming to us,” a spokesperson for the US military hospital in Landstuhl announced. “I don’t know why.” Shortly before the same spokeswoman had announced a planned visit by Obama.

Meanwhile Obama’s speech in front of what is predicted to be a screaming mass of German citizens remains on schedule.

Meaning that this candidate for America’s highest office, this candidate to be commander-in-chief of the military, would rather talk to Germans than American soldiers.  And there’s a question as to why Obama canceled the visit with the troops.  His campaign is saying time restraints, but Jack Tapper said Obama was talking about how he was going to spend his “down time” in Berlin.

Kind of speaks volumes about what kind of a leader Obama would be doesn’t it?  Obama is proving himself to be a candidate that is more worried about what foreigners think of American than what is best for America itself.

Comments

Obama thanks the troops for the success of the Surge, while not shaking hands with them in Iraq, except on the basketball court; and now he is ignoring them in Berlin. Maybe I am being overly suspicious and hyper-critical, but do you you suppose his words about support the troops and his actions towards them might appear a tiny bit contradictory?

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

How exactly in your world of crazy does Obama not talking to troops translate into not thinking about what is best for America?

Hack!

Once again, Han-job: Thanks for signing your opinion pieces!

The Obama European Photo Op is exactly that! It’s an extravaganza staged for consumption by the folks back home. We had earlier evidence of Obama’s disdain for meeting with common soldiers, this just helps confirm it.

Yeah, like all democrats, Obama hates soldiers.  That makes sense.

How about like all Congressional Democrats?

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Rep. Roy Blunt, the House Republican whip, on July 8 introduced a resolution demanding that the Defense Department better enable U.S. military personnel overseas to vote in the November elections. That act was followed by silence. Democrats normally leap on an opportunity to find fault with the Bush Pentagon. But not a single Democrat joined Blunt as a co-sponsor, and an all-Republican proposal cannot pass in the Democratic-controlled House.

You were saying, dannyboy?

”...Obama had been planning to go to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany before a flight to Paris. Gibbs said the stop was canceled because Obama decided “it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign.”

.Very nice.
A political rally on foreign soil.
Bravo, Mr. Obama.
He’s wanting it both ways.
His opening line to the fluff speech today was that he wasn’t there as the candidate for the Presidency.
Which is it?

Why is Obama in Germany when he is really looking for votes back home?  It makes no sense.  Germans can’t vote, moreover, they are far too honest to try to vote illegally.

McCain, on the other hand, at least can be understood in going down to Mexico and drumming up support from illegals to vote for him by the millions.  (that is, by the ten percent of the entire Mexican population who happen to reside in the United States—meh )

...for great justice

I thought Obama’s overseas trip was a way to gain the appearance of experience in international politics ...  in response to Senator McCain’s statement that Obama was in experienced in foreign affairs. Obama’s rationale was to go on a fact finding mission, in order to appear presidential, however it soon became evident to everyone that Obaman’s real purpose was to use the trip as a self serving campaign photo op., Posing and pontificating in front of the crowds and cameras, rather than visiting our wounded soldiers. This is about the most unpresidential thing Obama could have done. In spite of his fabricated image, and lop sided biased American media adulation, thank God the American people are finally coming to their senses, and realizing that Senator McCain is the only real Presidential choice for America.

The ‘real’ story is that Obama could have visited the wounded soldiers, but the Pentagon said not with the huge entourage and media circus ... however, Obama supporters are now trying to mislead the American people by enabling Obama to now blame the Pentagon for HIS bad decision. This is a typical form of damage control that the Obama and his people have used throughout his campaign. If Obama does something right, they shower credit upon him ... if he does something wrong, they blame it on someone else, or they tell us we misinterpreted what happened.
