Obama Sends Statement On Mandatory Community Service Down The Memory Hole

By clicking here and visiting the website of Obama’s recently-established faux branch of government you used to be able to read about his plans for mandating community service for America’s youth. It used to read like this:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.

It now reads this:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.

If you ask me this change, done without any sort of public notification, just ads to the Orwellian overtones. First Obama talks about mandating participation in a youth corps. Then he erases that reference when it gets some criticism and pretends like it never existed in the first place.

We must resist with all due diligence, this guy is a danger to him self and the rest of the free world, my goodness what have we as Americans done to our selves . 20% of the conservative base voted for Obama what were they thinking? to punish the republicans no doubt but this time it is apparent they have shot their selves in both feet. the trouble is we all will have the foot wounds to contend with for some time to come . Do you really think that a mere document like our Constitution will stop this hack from doing as he pleases.? We can only hope his plans will fail and he will wind up as another Carter that is our only hope . I think he will hard pressed to bring about most of his ideas, blue dog democrats will be standing in his way.that is if they don’t have bad things in their life he can use to get them on his side and that will happen . We should be reading our Constitution as we will need to know when he crosses the line .

Have any of you worked with young people in these “community service” kind of things? I would be in favor of paying them to NOT show up for work—-it would be less costly and a hell of a lot more productive. I’ve been working with grandsons and their friends. It will take nearly $40 per hour to keep them in food and drink.

No you are not the only one to see that slavery is on his mind ,you see he failed the black enough test already which means he is not black , the people that cheered Obama on are already having buyers remorse, “but he can’t mean me why he was going to pay my mortgage, fill up my gas tank once or twice a week” . I don’t think he will be able to get much done when the people in congress see what he wants to do I believe they will balk at doing that . Ignorance is what got him elected ,20% of the conservatives supposedly voted for Obama so as to punish the republicans for not being conservative ,I fear this time they have cut off their nose to spite their face.

For $40.00/hour credited for college, I would do that too, but won’t this put some out of work? I wonder what other red tape is there to qualify for this government run program. I will say that it will be to complicated for us red necked conservatives to figure out.

Congress will ram through earmarks or fat pork programs to the point of not recognizing the original intent of the mandate.

Slightly, you are by no means the first, nor will you be the last, I hope. Well done! Our first black President (except for Clinton) is standing FOR involuntary servitude. You just can’t make this stuff up. You also have the interesting view of a man with two Ivy League degrees completely mangling the English language with things like “mandatory volunteerism” and “deliberate haste.”

And lessee….20 million high school students each year times 50 hours times $40/hour, 10 million college students times 100 hours times $40/hour, I’m counting eighty billion dollars per year plus administrative costs…sounds like a cool $100 billion in costs to me.

Here’s a great way to get the same thing for free; cut federal subsidies to student loans, and students will figure out that if they want to stay in school, they’d better toe the line with their parents and bankers or get a job. Cool eleven figures SAVED instead of SPENT, and it would spell the immediate end of “gender and ethnic studies” programs around the nation.

Diva , we were here and else where all over the net, we don’t have a news paper but we cried loud and clear for almost two years about Obama and his ideas and his back ground that the news would not release , if you want to ask that question it would and should be directed at the news . I understand your frustration but all the Bush abashing had an effect and the hiding of his friends, the only place it was outed was places like this and fox news did a token job and Rush Limbaugh did his show each day of course he has a limited audience but better then we did. We can only get to so many people and so many were just not listening . By the way you say you voted for McCain , I must ask what did you do to get the word out on Obama. I am not being mean or ragging on you but it puts a perspective on the whole thing. we are no bigger nor smaller then you are. we are all Americans wondering what happened to our country .When the main stream news hides things the people are not informed. a so called 20% off conservatives voted for Obama , why? maybe their was voter fraud and all kinds of people voted that did not exist or were even legally entitled to vote . it will take years and we may never know all the truth , one thing we do know we have to stand up and fight as hard as we can now.

This whole election was so confusing where were all of you before this election? I’m an African American woman who voted for McCain. Why didn’t any read about his plans prior to THIS! He made no secrets of what his plans were! Being conservative is our duty to educate everyone we come in contact with. Conservatives doesn’t mean your prejudice, old or being unfair to low income families. It’s means to allow Americans the chance to stand on their own two feet and be proud of accomplishing their goals and dreams. This is an example of fuzzy liberal thinking.

They note that kids who volunteer have characteristics that are desirable. (mindful of the public).

So in order to have all kids have these desirable characteristics they force all kids to volunteer.

Not only will this NOT have the effect of improving the “bad” kids it will take away the virtue of the good kids that are already volunteering.

Meanwhile the recipients of what good work gets done will not get done.

And the entire thing will cost a lot of money.

These idiot elitists need to quit bashing institutions that develop the good characteristics in the first place (Scouts, Church) and drop their Utopian visions of being able to command the characteristics to appear.

You hit the nail on the head, Whistler.

It’s the same logic that goes into their attempts to turn everyone into a homeowner. They note that homeowners have the traits of responsible citizens, so they think that by making everyone a home owner everyone will get those traits.

Same with volunteers. They have good traits, to they think that by making everyone a volunteer everyone suddenly gets those traits.

What they’re not understanding is that owning a home, or being a volunteer, is the effect. Not the cause.
