LA Times Fires A Shot At Obama For Recognizing Hunters

Today is National Hunting and Fishing Day. For good reason as you’ll find

Hunters and anglers support more jobs nationwide than the number of people employed by Wal-Mart. Through license sales and excise taxes on equipment, hunters and anglers pay for most fish and wildlife conservation programs. Hunters and shooters have paid more than $5 billion in excise taxes since 1939. More Americans hunt and shoot than play golf. Firearms are involved in less than 1% of all accidental fatalities. More Americans are killed in accidents involving vending machines than guns. Hunting gear sales are growing faster than all other sporting goods categories. Americans annually buy 1.1 billion shotshells.

I’ll give credit to the current administration for acknowledging the heritage of outdoors and conservation in our nation. But the L.A. Times decided to fire a shot of their own as well.

Well, on the eve of that special season when so many Americans blast migrating ducks out of the sky and blow large holes in the side of fleeing deer, Barack Obama, now in the White House, has just issued a special Presidential Proclamation.
He’s saluting and celebrating those “ageless pursuits” of hunting and fishing, just like some caribou-killing ex-Alaska governor might.

This is the same state which prohibits the taking of mountain lions by license paying hunters and trappers, but ends up having the tax burdened state, federal and local animal control respond to all those issues created by cougars.
