“Obama Radio” Fails
Here’s a shocker: Liberal talk radio doesn’t succeed. Specifically, liberal talk radio from people like Ed Schultz that was to be devoted to worshiping The One on the airwaves in Washington DC.
President Obama may be riding high in Washington, but OBAMA 1260 is not.
The area’s only progressive talk station is changing formats, dropping such syndicated liberal hosts as Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller and Bill Press in favor of financial news, starting next week.
The move by Redskins owner Dan Snyder, who purchased the station, WWRC, and others in Washington last summer, leaves the city without a liberal radio outlet. Program Director Greg Tantum says he thought the station could work because of enthusiasm over Obama, but that ratings collapsed to a level that could not be measured after the election.
But ratings nearly doubled, he says, at Snyder’s conservative station, WTNT, which features Laura Ingraham and Bill Bennett.
It’s not surprising that a hack like Schultz would be caught up in a propaganda effort like this given that his show little more than a 3 hour daily paid commercial for Democrats. Schultz’s show only exists because it got fund raising from Democrats. Meaning Schultz is little more than a paid operative.
I think a big reason why liberal talk radio fails is because the liberals who are on the radio have no integrity. Say what you want about Rush Limbaugh, but when he doesn’t like something Republicans are doing he’ll call them out on it. He didn’t support the Republican candidate for President in the last election because he didn’t like his policies. If anyone thinks someone like Schultz is capable of that level of honesty they’re fooling themselves.
And by the way, if liberal talk radio can’t survive in Washington DC - one of the most liberal enclaves in America - what hope is there for the genre?
