Obama Pulls Messiah Routine With South American Dictators Who Don’t Buy It

Obama seems to have gone to South America fully expecting that, by dint of his not being George W. Bush, he’d be met with the sort of glowing adulation he’s come to know and love from the bubble of friendly media types and yes-men that surround him. He met with South American tyrants like Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega. He shook their hands and flashed that famous Obama smile.
And then they promptly went and trashed America for being at the center of everything that’s wrong in the world.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called the last U.S. president “the devil.” But this U.S. president wanted to meet him.
So Barack Obama walked across a hotel ballroom here Friday and introduced himself to Chavez. The two leaders smiled and shook hands, chatting briefly. …
Obama got an early taste Friday of how some in this region view the United States, as a nearby neighbor but hardly a friend. He can expect even more criticism Saturday, particularly on Cuba and the U.S. economic meltdown and more.
Obama tried a little handshake diplomacy with other U.S. rivals – including Bolivia’s Evo Morales and Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega, with Obama saying it was “gusto,” a pleasure, to meet Ortega.
But in a sign of just how tough this crowd might be for Obama, Ortega promptly walked out of the ballroom and tore into the United States over Cuba and the G-20 nations for dragging down the world’s economy.

Well, looks like trying to be their friend isn’t going to work Barry.
What’s next? A box of DVD’s? An iPod?
Update: Here’s Obama apologizing to Hugo Chavez of all people for America being to, uh, dictatorial to the South American region.

I know that promises of partnership have gone unfulfilled in the past, and that trust has to be earned over time.
While the United States has done much to promote peace and prosperity in the hemisphere, we have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms. But I pledge to you that we seek an equal partnership. (Applause.)
There is no senior partner and junior partner in our relations; there is simply engagement based on mutual respect and common interests and shared values. So I’m here to launch a new chapter of engagement that will be sustained throughout my administration.

Blame America first.

Once again Barry tells the world the truth (which it already knows) and history can back up about US/Latin American relationship under past administrations. He is not apologizing as I am sure many of you who think we are better than them would like to believe. He is offering a new way of working with our Latin neighbors. A way which may garner greater cooperation between all countries in this hemisphere. How can that be wrong for America? Maybe, those of you, who are a bunch of ignorant bastards, will always see the US as top dog and any offer of friendship as capitulation. It is because of your attitudes that we are reviled by many in the region. But you don’t care, do you?

Chavez showed Obama respect, something he would never do to Bush

I imagine Hanjob is in a twitter about how this socialist dictator who’s running his country into the sewer respects Obama.

  • Hannitized

    PP,

I understand your argument, to a degree. But please help me out.

Why is Chavez a threat equal to that of HItler? He does not have the army Hitler had. What can Chavez do with deception that can turn around and hurt us?

  • ollie-B

But in a sign of just how tough this crowd might be for Obama, Ortega promptly walked out of the ballroom and tore into the United States over Cuba and the G-20 nations for dragging down the world’s economy.

Ortega has a right to his opinion. Or don’t you believe in free speech? Maybe that is reserved for American politicians only.

  • robert108

Chavez showed Obama respect, something he would never do to Bush, Rob ignores it.

No real American respects a totalitarian dictator. Chavez deserves no respect for what he’s done. Obama was wrong to do that, and got nothing for his appeasement and pandering.

  • Neiman

The big difference between Chavez and Obama? Chavez is a petty, murderous dictator; while Obama is just starting down that road for America. Lord Obama is a dictator in training!

  • andophiroxia

Ahamadinijad toned down his anti-american rhetoric during a speech he gave on their Armed Forces day

Has he stopped his nuke program? Has he also recapitulated in his desire to see Israel wiped off the face of the earth?

Nah, these people tell you crap you want to hear. It worked for Hitler.

  • Hannitized

    Hey Robert,

Here is a poll for you, big guy. FoxNews poll shows

29% of americans blame Corporate Leaders for economic crisis.
    23% BLAME GEORGE BUSH
    19% Blame Congress
    5% Blame Obama
    20% combination

    23% Blame BUSH…..

    5% Blame Obama.

    5% Blame Obama..

    5% Blame Obama..

Hajob is upset that we don’t respect his idol, Hugo Chavez.

  • pparets

    Hannitized said…

I believe showing mutual respect is a key to solving problems diplomatically

Perhaps, but proceed with extreme caution…

    As I said earlier…

From 1938 – 1939, Hitler showed Neville Chamberlain, the Great Appeaser, warm ‘respect’ and deference, while spewing public venom at Winston Churchill, who – at that time – was a powerless ‘back bencher’ in parliament.

Hitler, like all dictators, played up to leaders he could use and snarled at those whose backbone he could not bend.

    and this…

“In my hand I hold a message, signed by Herr Hitler himself, guaranteeing his friendship and his desire never to go to war. We have secured peace in our time!”
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, on his return from Munich.

  • robert108

    …because of Barack Obama.

You mean, because Obama bowed down to the Saudi King?
Please explain the chain of causation between anything Obama has done, and your contention about Ajad.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Bush and Cheney only consolidated Chavez’s domestic support for him.

And Obama’s sucking up to him isn’t going to be used by Chavez as proof of his legitimacy as he takes the country down the sewer hole.

Have you ever been in an ex communist country sparkless? If you had you’d realize just how evil like that can screw up a people for generations.

  • pparets

Chavez also reportedly said Friday: “With this same hand I greeted Bush eight years ago. I want to be your friend.”

“In my hand I hold a message, signed by Herr Hitler himself, guaranteeing his friendship and his desire never to go to war. We have secured peace in our time!”
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, on his return from Munich.

  • Hannitized

The childish republicans expect Obama to solve the Iran/American confrontation in 3 months. Idiots.

FOX News reported the shift in rhetoric from Ahmadinijad, as a result of the new approach from Obama.

Suck on it. Twirl, spin and cry. I don’t give a fuck.

You mean, because Obama bowed down to the Saudi King?

I believe showing mutual respect is a key to solving problems diplomatically, you douche. We have been telling you that for 8 years.

  • Hannitized

Rob will also turn his head at the fact that TODAY, Abu Ahamadinijad toned down his anti-american rhetoric during a speech he gave on their Armed Forces day, because of Barack Obama.

  • pparets

Hannitized… you are right in one respect. People get all hung up on the ‘style’ of the President and the trappings that surround international meetings.

We would be better off to wait for the outcome – the results of Obama’s approach – and evaluate that.

In the meantime, you said this…

Chavez showed Obama respect, something he would never do to Bush…

    You need to ponder WHY?

From 1938 – 1939, Hitler showed Neville Chamberlain, the Great Appeaser, warm ‘respect’ and deference, while spewing public venom at Winston Churchill, who – at that time – was a powerless ‘back bencher’ in parliament.

Hitler, like all dictators, played up to leaders he could use and snarled at those whose backbone he could not bend.

Let’s hope that’s not the case here.

    Chamberlain > Obama

I would disagree, the current formula is:

    Chamberlain+Carter=Obama

  • Pilgrim

Watching Conservatives report on Obama’s visit to South America is like watching spoiled kids throw a tantrum.

Gee, I wonder where he got that line?

I know it’s difficult for you, Hannitized, but DO try to come up with some original thinking, m’kay? But thanks for stealing my line from yesterday. I’m flattered.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Does that mean we no longer get blamed for everything and everyone else chips in to fix the problems?

  • pparets

    arbuckle asks…

How did Ortega come to power?

The same way Hitler and Mussolini did… by winning elections in their respective countries and then declaring there need be no more elections.

Hugo Chavez to make himself president for life

So Iran let that North Dakotan reporter go because of Obama.

Nope. They convicted her of spying.

So Iran stopped their nuclear weapons program.

    Nope.

TODAY, Abu Ahamadinijad toned down his anti-american rhetoric

    Hanjob is such an idiot.

  • robert108

The childish republicans expect Obama to solve the Iran/American confrontation in 3 months. Idiots. Wrong! Real Americans never expected Obama to do anything but pander; he’s a Marxist who hates this country, just like his terrorist/dictator buddies.

FOX News reported the shift in rhetoric from Ahmadinijad…

It’s not his rhetoric that matters, it’s his behavior. When he gives up his nukes, that will be meaningful. Until then, it’s all bullshit.

  • Hannitized

Watching Conservatives report on Obama’s visit to South America is like watching spoiled kids throw a tantrum.

Chavez showed Obama respect, something he would never do to Bush, Rob ignores it.

Cold hard reality is that no matter how much Obama might have been able to repair “relations” with the leaders of South America, the reality of our economy being a problem, not only for us but for others, is going to be a perceived reality to the leaders no matter how much they might learn to trust Obama.

This rational is obviously overlooked by screaming kids, throwing a tantrum.

  • Pilgrim

What’s next? A box of DVD’s? An iPod?

How about a gift of Sean Penn, Danny Glover, and any of the other Hollywood idiots who adore Chavez so much.

Wrap ‘em up complete with passport and citizenship and send ‘em on down. I’m sure they’ll be happy there.

  • pparets

Hannitized… 25% – 30% of our oil imports come from Venzuela. Should that oil be shut off, we would face economic disaster and a human tragedy of enormous proportions.

And remember, Hitler schmoozed Chamberlain, not becuase he wanted to attack Britain [yet], but because he wanted a free hand to swallow up neighboring countries. He got what he wanted.

  • Hannitized

Hitler, like all dictators, played up to leaders he could use and snarled at those whose backbone he could not bend.

Let’s hope that’s not the case here.

In actuality, I missed one bit of information:

Chavez also reportedly said Friday: “With this same hand I greeted Bush eight years ago. I want to be your friend.”

As recently as last week, Chavez expressed a desire to “reset” relations with Washington.

Let us indeed hope relations are “reset”.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

It’s far from frozen here. 35 degrees.

I might go out for a suntan.

PP: Family that lives out your way said that today is the first decent day they’ve had. Same there?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

This is the reason why South America is a third world sewer hole. Rather than emulate the successful they condemn it.

That of course explains most of the worlds problems.

  • jk

…is going to be a perceived reality to the leaders no matter how much they might learn to trust Obama.
Hannitized on April 18, 2009 at 06:27 am

Of course they’ll trust obama. They have the same thing in common, the destruction of the United States into socialism.

  • deadrody

Really. No senior and junior partners ? Really ? The US, the most powerful, prosperous nation on the planet should sit down and negotiate from an equal standing as a piss-ant third world dictatorship ? Nice job Barry, you tool.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

    Sparkless:

We call these people tyrants? How did Ortega come to power? Morales?

Sparkie, you are such an idiot. How did Hitler and Mussolini come to power.

Generally I consider you a waste of electrons, but once in a while you’re good for comic relief.

Who cares about the respect of a tyrant?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

    Toot

You are just pissed that Obama has class and that Bush and Cheney only consolidated Chavez’s domestic support for him.

    Whiner.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/sparkiearbuckle sayanything-81

We call these people tyrants? How did Ortega come to power? Morales?

I thought we supported democracy? I thought we were admonishing Iran and Syria for messing with their neighbors? How many different sides of our mouth can we talk out of at once.

The right is just upset that Obama actually has class. Bush and Cheney would rather just trash talk and sabre rattle for years – much clatter amounting to nothing. Chavez returned the favor, but when Chavez namecalls… that’s F*CKING HORRIBLE.

No one is taking you whiners seriously at all.

Also, I notice that we have an argument ad hitlerum already. Jumping the gun with that? Doesn’t that come after a few more comments?
