Obama Lies About Keating Attacks Only Being A Response To McCain

Obama is out there justifying his rather absurd attacks on John McCain over the ancient (in political time) Keating Five scandal by saying that he’s only dredging up the issue because the McCain campaign (mostly through Palin) is focusing on issues like Ayers.

Joyner noted that the Obama campaign launched a website keatingeconomics.com, going after McCain for his role in the S&L crisis of the late 1980s/early 1990s, and his role in the Keating Five scandal. “Of course Charles Keating was a savings and loan guy out of Arizona,” Joyner said. “Doesn’t this put you in the position of going negative, taking away your message of running a different kind of campaign?”

Said Obama: “One of the things we’ve done during this campaign: we don’t throw the first punch, but we’ll throw the last.  Because if the American people don’t get the information that is relevant about these candidates and instead in the last four weeks all they are hearing about are smears and Swift Boat tactics that can have an impact on the election.  We have seen it before, and this election is too important to be sitting on the sidelines.  If Senator McCain wants to focus on the issues then that is what we focus on.  But if Senator McCain wants to have a character debate that is one that we’re willing to have.”

Obama doesn’t throw the first punch, eh?  Well here’s the thing: Obama’s campaign registered the domain for their Keating scandal website several days before Palin started talking about Ayers:

Between this and Joe Biden’s “fantastic voyage” of deception over the past week, it’s almost like nobody with the Obama campaign knows how to tell the truth.

Stop swiftboating Obama.  You’re going to make him cry.

Oh and I forgot to mention that you’re a racist for criticizing the savior, regardless of the veracity of your information.

Registering a domain doesn’t really prove much.  If they were publicizing that domain before McCain’s recent focus on Ayers, you’d have a point.  As best I can tell, Obama’s campaign did not mention http://keatingeconomics.com until yesterday or, perhaps, two days ago.

Obama has been prepared for this for awhile because McCain going neagative was obvious.  But it is factually true that Obama did not make Keating an issue until McCain started the attacks about Ayers.

He isn’t lying, you are.

This is typical Chicago politics; lay the groundwork for what you think is a brutal personal attack, but keep it quiet for a while, and then watch all Hell break loose when you do.  And reality is that rhetoric about Obama’s link with the terrorist Ayers has been around a while, as has the rhetoric about McCain’s insignificant links to the S&L scandal.

Now, of course, given that McCain has repented of this, while Obama has not to my knowledge, exactly why Obama would want to fight out a character battle with McCain on this issue is beyond me.  Maybe it has something to do with the media’s reluctance to ask him the tough questions--say like

“if you didn’t catch on to Rev. Wright’s bigotry in 20 years of close association with him, exactly how do you expect us to believe that you’re going to figure out Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?”

Or

“If you didn’t figure out that association with the Weathermen was a bad thing in Chicago, tell me why you’re capable of evaluating the character of your staffers.”

or

“Explain to me why your wife’s salary doubled right after you got a pork bill with the U. of C. Hospital’s name on it.”

The Obama supporters believe that bringing up Obama’s recent relationship with Ayers is “going negative”.

But why oh why is talking about the guy who hosted the launch of Obama’s political career negative?

likwidshoe on October 6, 2008 at 03:08 pm

He didn’t host the launch of Obama’s career.  Keep repeating lies is still just repeating lies.

Obama won’t be swiftboated and is more than prepared for what Palin/McCain were going to do. You guys are just pissed off that Palin/McCain can’t talk about health care or the economy and that’s all the public cares about.

You had your 15 minutes of fame on this crap and it has run its course.  The economy takes center stage over a smear campaign by Palin/McCain.

And now McCain is going to cut Medicare and Medicaid, yeah that’ll get him those independent votes and retirees.  Atta boy, McCain!

Obama has bigger worries with his involvement with Raines, Gorelick, and Johnson. These are some of his advisors now who soon will be questioned about the fall of freddie, and fannie, the biggest financial scandal of this century. Also Gorelick still has yet to answer for her “wall” that kept government agencies from sharing information on middle east terrorist organizations in the 1990’s. We all know how important that may have been.

McCain needs to fight Obama with his own medicine. Chicago style politics works both ways.

Take the gloves off John.

Hawk fantasy:

Obama has been prepared for this for awhile because McCain going neagative was obvious.

Actual he has always been going negative, relentlessly so.  Dredging up a 30 year old scandal is just his latest tactic.

Recent Obama Ads More Negative Than Rival’s, Study Says

Despite perceptions that Sen. John McCain has spent more time on the attack, Sen. Barack Obama aired more negative advertising last week than did the Arizona Republican, says a study released yesterday.

Seventy-seven percent of the Illinois Democrat’s commercials were negative during the week after the Republican National Convention, compared with 56 percent of the spots run by McCain.

Oh, but Obama meeting a guy 13 years ago, who 40 years ago was part of a group that never targeted civilians in a political bombing campaing to stop a war based on a lie, isn’t ancient history?

Oh, 3 days late a troll doubles down on the lies.  OK, I’ll play.  Ayers and Dohrn are relevant because they are not only guilty of having set the bombs, but are still proud of their actions.  And you lie about not targeting civilians.  Meet John Murtaugh.

Speaking of not targeting civilians, does that make setting bombs at police stations, homes, high-rise buildings, and government offices OK in your demented world?  So you wouldn’t mind if some whacko set a bomb off at your house or place of business as long as you weren’t there, right?

Idiot.

So, your point is that Obama met a guy 13 years ago, who said 7 years ago that he wished he’s set more bombs isn’t relevent?

And you don’t consider judges or their families “civilians”? Tell that to John M. Murtagh, who was eight years old when Bill Ayers’ Weathermen tried to kill him and his family!

Wow!  I knew the left was screwy, but coming to Ayers defense has to be a new low.  Sadly, there is much more to this story

Obama’s so comfortable with terroists that he maintains a freindly and professional relationship with Ayers.  Is it any wonder he will meet with Ahmadinejad?

Would you attend a church whose pastor was spreading racial animosity from the pulpit? Would you even shake hands with—let alone serve on two boards with—an unrepentant terrorist, whether he bombed U.S. military installations or abortion clinics?

Most Americans would not, on the grounds of sheer indecency. Yet Obama did, if not out of conviction then out of expediency.
