Obama: I’ve Been Warning The World About Georgia “For Months”

Video here, transcript below.

“For many months I have warned that there needs to be active international engagement to peacefully address the disputes over South Ossetia and Abkhazia including a high level and neutral international mediator and a genuine international peacekeeping force , not simply Russian troops.”

The truth?  Obama has never mentioned Ossetia in a speech.

McCain, on the other hand, has.  Twice.

Comments

So… Barack Obama is so desperate to establish some minor international relevance that he would actually lie about previous pronouncements that he in fact never made!?

What a surprise!

The only way to get the truth out of Obama is to waterboard him.

Mickey on August 12, 2008 at 03:12 pm

Let’s just hope the MSM or someone calls him out on this and demands that he state where and when said comments occured.

atease,

That must be the hope that Obama keeps talking about, because we will have to hope a lot before that will happen.

*hit head on keyboard*

Arrggh! This guy is despicable.
I would like to know, just who did Obama warn about the Russia, South Ossetia, and Georgia situation?
Won’t someone out there ask this clown real questions and require real answers in return?
The lil man with the big ears is running on empty and he needs to have the soap box pulled out from underneath him

I wish the ‘change’ he is always harping about would be the ‘change’ for him to tell the truth for once.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

docdave on August 12, 2008 at 03:36 pm

kbiel,

Perhaps that is a reason why he wont do town hall style meetings.  McCain was in my backyard today.  One of my coworkers wanted to go and ask why he enjoys poking conservatives in the eye so much.  So the town hall style cuts both ways.

I think the only Georgia Obama is worrying about is the one that has Atlanta for a capital…

GregB999 on August 12, 2008 at 04:11 pm

What a lying piece of shit.

No he’s not...however he was warning about his taking the state during the primaries. When he heard the Russians were invading Georgia his initial response no doubt was wondering how the Ruskies managed to move an invasion force over the ice cap and down the Atlantic undetected.

There was this one guy in High School who took credit for any good idea that came along.

Obama is that kind of guy.

And, did you hear his responses to the whole conflict.  He mimicked John McCain’s every word.

The man hasn’t had an original idea since he was 11.

REMEMBER, the only job he ever had was a community organizer in Chicagoland.

We have a name for them, Political Flunkies.

What about this speech back in February.

“Just think back to the beginning of President Bush’s administration when he said — you know, he met with Putin, looked into his eyes and saw his soul, and figured he could do business with him,” Obama lamented.

“He then proceeded to neglect our relationship with Russia at a time when Putin was strangling any opposition in the country when he was consolidating power, rattling sabers against his European neighbors, as well as satellites of the former Soviet Union. And so we did not send a signal to Mr. Putin that, in fact, we were going to be serious about issues like human rights, issues like international cooperation that were critical to us. That is something that we have to change.”

golfmann,

Happy Days went on for another five years after jumping the shark.  So this is not an either or situation.

From the Georgian Daily, which appears to be pro-Georgia:

Senator Barack Obama also recently addressed the growing tensions in Georgia, declaring that South Ossetia and Abkhazia are located within Georgia’s territorial integrity and that all parties involved, especially Russia, should reduce tensions immediately and engage in peaceful negotiations. On July 23 Obama affirmed, “As I stated in April this year, I am committed to upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. This commitment has long been a fundamental building block of U.S. policy, and it will not change under the Obama administration. I also affirm Georgia’s right to pursue NATO membership. This aspiration in no way threatens the legitimate defense interests of Georgia’s neighbors.”

Parsing. Parsing. Parsing.

“Obama has never mentioned Ossetia in a speech.”

He has mentioned Ossetia in campaign statements. He has mentioned Ossetia in campaign releases. He has mentioned the situation with Georgia and Russia.

As a specific example, “On 23 July 2008 Senator Barack Obama stated “Over the last several weeks, Russia and Georgia have been engaged in a steadily more dangerous confrontation over two secessionist regions of Georgia—South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Although these territories are located within Georgia’s internationally-recognized borders, the Russian government seems determined to challenge Georgia’s territorial integrity in both places.... As I stated in April this year, I am committed to upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. This commitment has long been a fundamental building block of U.S. policy, and it will not change under the Obama administration. I also affirm Georgia’s right to pursue NATO membership. This aspiration in no way threatens the legitimate defense interests of Georgia’s neighbors.... The Euro-Atlantic community must speak with one voice in helping to promote peace in this volatile region. As part of the de-escalation process, a multilateral peacekeeping force must eventually replace the Russian peacekeeping force currently deployed in Abkhazia.”

Pay attention to what candidates put into writing and maybe you won’t have to blur the truth and we won’t have to parse whether “in a speech” means Obama never warned about the situation and was lying to say he had.

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.
