Obama Is In Trouble

So says Mark Tapscott in an excellent column.

Here’s a summary of his points:

Rush Limbaugh: The talk radio legend’s audience has exploded since the first of the year.  Even before Rahm Emanuel and the rest of Obama’s goons declared war on him he’d already sold more advertising in the first months of this year than he had in all of 2008.  Now that they’ve made him public enemy #1, Rush has more attention than ever.  And the drip-drip-drip of his daily broadcasts is going to heavily erode Obama’s popularity.

Glenn Beck: Beck has come onto the radar in a big way.  He went from not-so-well-known radio host to CNN personality to Fox News personality, and since he’s hit Fox News his audience - much like Limbaugh’s - has exploded.  He, much like Rush, is leading a daily opposition to Obama and his policies.

Public Opinion: Obama still has high approval numbers, but public opinion is turning against his specific politics in a big way.  Even Democrats are beginning to think that Obama has overreached on the spending, thus the problems with getting the $410 billion omnibus spending bill through Congress.  Nothing is more indicative of this than the fact that the Democrats, despite their much-hyped majorities, now desperately need Al Franken’s vote in Congress to make things work.

Worries Over Socialism: Conservatives are getting a lot of traction with Americans on the spending issues.  Obama has engaged in some tricky rhetoric to try and hide the fact that he’s going to ramp up our budget deficits and national debt, and I don’t think Americans are at all comfortable with that.  Or the idea of higher taxes which inevitably must be levied to pay off that debt.

Of course, while Obama may be down, he’s certainly not out yet.  With his substantial propaganda and oratory skills (as long as he’s got his teleprompter and time to rehearse), and with a mainstream media that’s all too willing to spin along with him, almost anything is possible.  But the truth is that Obama is hemorrhaging political capital right now, and if he doesn’t stop the bleeding soon he will be out.
